Parking issue

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 09:22

I’m writing this post to establish if i am
being unreasonable by wanting simple (ish) access to my driveway without having to drive forwards and backwards multiple times to avoid hitting the parked van. I appreciate this isn’t a serious matter but more a frustrating one given the selfishness of the owner, who could easily park it outside his own property on his double driveway. Instead he’d rather inconvenience others. I’ve referred this to the local authorities and they will get back to me in due course. The company aren't interested as we’ve talked to the owner and they’ve said it’s a neighbourhood issue. Well, of course but it involves property of yours ! Also, if emergency services want access to our elderly neighbour to the right, they’ll never get through. Interested in sensible comments only. Thanks

A few but then I remembered we left the EU and had. Conservative government for 14 years so I expected nothing less.

Oooh burrrrrn! 😁

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 10:09

Yep, and if the kids are on their bikes / scooters out the front, it’s impossible to see them unless you come to a stop. It also creates a problem that you cannot see any vehicles leaving next door, that could be dangerous. A fire engine will not get through that gap - trust me. If he didn’t have his own driveway, I’d understand but he does and doesn’t use it.

Jesus are people incapable of reading on here 😂.

I think he is being massively inconsiderate. I would park awkwardly in front of his house, not to block the road, but so his girlfriend has to do multiple turns as well to get out. Make it his problem

Nitgel · 05/01/2025 10:14

Park your car there when it's free

Whatifitallgoesright · 05/01/2025 10:15

Does the bin van get through the gap?

UndermyShoeJoe · 05/01/2025 10:15

How friendly are you with the peoples who verge that is? Could offer to buy them some nice big rocks?

Blueuggboots · 05/01/2025 10:16

If you can't get out of your drive without difficulty, you shouldn't be driving!!! Yes it's irritating but you CAN get out. If you can't only do it with difficulty, you're a crap driver.

Blueuggboots · 05/01/2025 10:16

If you CAN only do it with difficulty that should say...

Justsayit123 · 05/01/2025 10:16

He should not park there due to proximity of junction.

Abi86 · 05/01/2025 10:17

YABU - you can get out and into that park ok.

YANBU - the cunt has parked too close to the corner. Report him.

BarbaraHoward · 05/01/2025 10:19

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 10:05

Correct. The reason he doesn’t is his girlfriend parks her car there too and I guess it would be considered right but change the layout of the driveway. I’ve always maintained politeness and courtesy, and what’s the problem in phoning the employer? It’s their asset. THANKS to those who understand what sensible means.

You rang their employer to complain about their parking, I doubt they think you've maintained politeness and courtesy. Grin

Parking in new build estates is a shit show and I think it's unrealistic to expect to access your drive without a bit of manoeuvring.

They shouldn't be parked so close to the corner, but again, I can see why that happens in some developments.

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 10:19

Still, the verbatim here is something to behold so to those who have provided a considered reply - thank you.

OP posts:
BarbaraHoward · 05/01/2025 10:20

And yes it's definitely inconsiderate of him to park there if he has a drive, but you can't force people to be considerate unfortunately.

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 10:22

The houses were built in 1990, so I wouldn’t consider it a “new build” estate. You know, you can call the owner of the van (the company) and maintain politeness and decency. In my world the two can coexist. Magic stuff this 😂

OP posts:
Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 10:24

And they were perfectly reasonable and would raise it with the driver. I wasn’t expecting a change overnight. 👍

Ticketytutu · 05/01/2025 10:24

I agree OP really inconsiderate parking. Also not everyone has reverse sensors etc to assist with parking reversing etc . There is no room there to swing out and it is too close to the junction.

If my neighbour phoned my employer to complain about me, I wouldn't consider that polite or considerate even if their manner was charm personified.

Posting their work van online isn't great either.

NewNameNoelle · 05/01/2025 10:27

It’s not great parking from him, he shouldn’t be parked so near a corner / junction as it limits visibility and is clearly dangerous.

Clearly it makes your life a bit difficult too, and so isn’t very considerate assuming there are other places to park.

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 10:30

I wasn’t complaining per se Barbara, I was highlighting an issue. Sorry, next time I will ask my 9 year old for her crayons so i can draw something instead to appease some
nobody on the internet.

When did you report it to the company?

Trainors · 05/01/2025 10:34

If it’s legally parked there is nothing you can do except point out the danger to a local authority and petition for double yellows

So if they didn't have a drive it would be OK to block a fire engine? Come on, you know full well that a fire engine can get through. As can a bin lorry, delivery trucks etc. You are massively exaggerating.
