Parking issue

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 09:22

I’m writing this post to establish if i am
being unreasonable by wanting simple (ish) access to my driveway without having to drive forwards and backwards multiple times to avoid hitting the parked van. I appreciate this isn’t a serious matter but more a frustrating one given the selfishness of the owner, who could easily park it outside his own property on his double driveway. Instead he’d rather inconvenience others. I’ve referred this to the local authorities and they will get back to me in due course. The company aren't interested as we’ve talked to the owner and they’ve said it’s a neighbourhood issue. Well, of course but it involves property of yours ! Also, if emergency services want access to our elderly neighbour to the right, they’ll never get through. Interested in sensible comments only. Thanks

No need for crayons, but perhaps the 9yo could show you how to alter a photo to remove identifying information.

It's a van being driven/parked in public. If its in the public realm, then it's public information.

Another person could look at the photo and think advertising (crap parking doesn't negate finding a good roofer (or whatever trade)

It's not like OP is calling the driver out for anything horrifying like kidnapped kids or pedo or something. It's parking.

CellophaneFlower · 05/01/2025 11:02

He doesn't have less right to use the road because he doesn't own his own home.

Where does it state he doesn't own his own home?

Yes, the van is too close to the junction. I live down a ridiculously narrow cul-de-sac and somebody from a street with much more space than ours parks their van close to the junction like this. It means other large vehicles, bin men etc have to mount the pavement to get past... but they DO get past. We've reported before, as he decided to stick a caravan there too 🙈 but nobody was interested.

You've posted on a forum asking whether or not you're being unreasonable, but seem to think anybody saying you are being unreasonable is not being 'sensible' which is a bit odd

Nope, I was merely seeking sensible comments. I wasn’t looking for an entire forum to agree with me. Sheesh. Sunday morning fun. 😄

If you struggle with parking there, please, please, hand in your driving licence.

This!
I could drive a bus (or an emergency vehicle) through that space, but you can't handle a car? I also look forward to the retribution thread when the company and their employee find out that you have been posting this nonsense.

He shouldn't be parking so close to a corner but nobody's access is blocked. I could swing our van into your driveway in one move and I'm not even a particularly skilled driver.

The sensible comments are the you should be able to get your car off the drive without too much stress. Yes when you have to go in forward it might be a bit annoying but I can’t imagine the van is there 24/7. Why not go and knock to ask him to not park there?

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 11:05

Listen, I am grateful for the replies (all
of them) and i am genuinely sorry if I have upset anyone. Genuinely.

You wait. When the bs about emergency vehicles doesn't fly with "the authorities", I wouldn't put it past them. Seems unhinged enough.

buttonousmaximous · 05/01/2025 11:07

We have exactly this it's a nightmare to reverse out so we reverse in. Technically they can park opposite your drive although I agree they shouldn't be on the corner. They would probably get a ticket if it was patrolled.

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 11:07

I wasn’t expecting every member to agree with me either. As I’ve stated. I also recognise that if nothing is enforced then I shall move. Hence why I said “it’s not a serious matter”. Thanks.

Because it's so much easier to vent his frustration and anger at a group of women on here. Telling intelligent, educated women that they are not 'academic' because they don't agree with him. Honestly, it's exhausting...

🤣 literally no one is upset by a MN parking thread.

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 11:09

I’ve said sorry “if” i have upset someone, Barbara. Anyway, best wishes to all.

did you mean to reply to me? I don't understand your comment

I was challenging someone saying the. van info should have been hidden.

I’m sorry if you feel that way. I wasn’t targeting women at all.

Van driver is gonna get given this thread at some point. Someone will know him, or track him down through his company. You think this is anonymous but it is the most outing picture from your house. I hope it all goes well.

WidgetDigit2022 · 05/01/2025 11:16
  1. neighbour isn’t parking with consideration, too close to a bend.
  2. there’s nothing legally stopping him parking there though.
  3. your attitude in here, to posters who disagree with you is rude. Are you as rude in real life?

Nothing will be enforced, by either the police or the council. It's the same on housing estates all over the UK. Too many cars, too small driveways and too narrow roads. There is literally nowhere else for the sheer number of cars people own these days. We have similar issues here, regular ambulances to one house that often struggle to park, cars parked dangerously on blind corners. Neighbours complained many times to police and council, who just shook their heads and said nothing can be done. If they were to enforce parking regulations on every street they'd never get anything else done.

thanks, and acknowledged. I have, if you haven’t seen them, apologised if I’ve upset anyone. No, I wouldn’t consider myself
to be rude. Thanks

Can’t really tell, but is he parked on the pavement? If so, and you really want to stop him parking there, you can report to council as obstructive parking (people/prams/wheelchairs need to be able to use the path). The council are very proactive where I live and will send letters out to all residents on the street threatening them with a fine.

Our old house had a neighbour who did this and it drove me crazy. It made backing out of our driveway harder. We had to suck it up and when looking for a new house it was something we were very conscious of.
