Absolutely shit scared about the future in the UK?

JDNCh · 04/01/2025 18:17

Name changed - I’m genuinely terrified by the hate, division and atmosphere here right now, online and spilling over on the ‘the real world’. I’m scared by how quickly things are changing, and just how much influence the US/Elon Musk/Reform+supporters are having. I’m scared of what the actual point of it all is - what’s the endgame? And what’s the solution? Why is no one protesting/rising up from the other way? Do people generally agree with all this?

I’m in no way a minority (white, female, 30s), I’m not super left, I have one little boy and I’m so scared for his future. I don’t want to live somewhere so intolerant with this constant atmosphere of distrust and something getting ready to blow.

What’s the general consensus? Is this what the people of the U.K. want?

Deform aren’t even a political party, they are a company and are heading for total obliteration. If you believe fartage, you need to give your head a wobble. Look up the countries these donors live in, cos it ain’t the UK.
You’re obviously very young and politically naive, and also read these vile RW rags whose owners are languishing in some tax haven so they don’t have to pay UK taxes like the rest of us.
Labour have a huge job to do, but their support is increasing and they will claim all the billions back that the tories stole from us. Deform are already on their way out. Have you read what the residents of Clacton think of their mp? 🤣🤣

'Deform' and 'fartage'? - childish and detracts from your post.

In what way is support for Labour increasing?

I always roll my eyes when people come up with those sort of not-at-all- hilarious nicknames. At least Two Tier Kier has some actual basis, as well as a nice ring to it, instead of being just a childish, lazy play on words.

You are absolutely deluded if you honestly think Reform is on the verge of obliteration. You can keep repeating the same old stuff about them 'not even being a political party' but it makes absolutely sod all difference to the chances of them forming the next government or at least being in a coalition, which is extremely high indeed.

Read the room. Read the whole library. Look at Europe. Wake up and take your head out of your arse.

It seems to me that we are going backwards in terms of attitudes and all hard campaigning done in the 70s and 80s is being undermined. Think attitudes to women, workers rights, rights to abortion, questioning homophobia and racism. Look back at history to Germany just before Hitler. Conditions could very quickly be the same. I think it was Churchill who said that we never learn from history. The women in Afghanistan now have less rights than their grandmothers.. I’m glad I live in the UK! I never thought I would see the abortion laws in the USA change like they have. Our freedoms can easily be taken away.

HellsBalls · 08/01/2025 10:32

@Thomasina79 ”Think attitudes to women, workers rights, rights to abortion, questioning homophobia and racism.”

It’s the immigration from countries who DON’T have the modern/same attitudes to women, abortion, homophobia and racism causing the issues.
The Pakistani linked Pedophile rapist gangs only raped non-Pakistani/muslim girls. Racism and religious supremacy in action.
It will only get worse with similar ‘behind the times’ attitudes from Muslim and African countries.

I think the link to pre war Germany is very important. There is always a reason extreme politics on all sides starts to take hold.

For a long time much of social media and mainstream media have been championing quite far left ideologies. This has been replicated in many governments and educational establishments. Many of those vulnerable to charismatic far right leaderships and ideologies have been either ignored or demonised. There’s a lot of people with real concerns who aren’t being listened to and perceive they are being treated unfairly. These disenfranchised people are growing in number. Governments need to wake up very quickly and listen to these people and act on their concerns. People need to feel they are being treated fairly by their own governments. There’s a reason the name “two tier kier” took such a hold. It’s exactly how many felt, not just about policing but about the way they were treated in all aspects of life.

As things stand I think it’s inevitable Reform will be at least part of a coalition Government in a few years. I don’t think that’s a good thing, but unless things change I think it’s inevitable.

oldwhyno · 08/01/2025 10:51

The Left will not move right and start to sort some of the issues out. They'll entrench and move further left. A more right wing government than we've had before is inevitable at some point.

Exactly this. There’s been too much emphasis on Left politics largely driven by the inappropriate pushing of left ideologies on social media and education. It appears even Zuckerberg has read the writing on the wall.

It does make me wonder what Genz are going to do exposed to different ideologies. They’ve grown up being told all manner of things that have no basis in reality and suddenly these won’t be protected ideologies any more.

Where’s your evidence for increasing support for Labour, I have only seen quite the opposite. First impressions matter, this is especially so in politics. Quite frankly Labour have completely fluffed it. They clearly have no understanding of the electorate, nor are they willing to try and understand the issues people are facing. They are unwilling to take responsibility and ownership.

Let’s be clear, Labour won because people wanted the Tories out, it was not a positive vote for Labour. Most people wouldn’t be able to tell you what was in their manifesto. It’s very unlikely that Labour will benefit from that. Come the next election they will most likely suffer the same desire to get the current government out.

The only possible hope Labour have is getting rid of Starmer and his disciples and bringing in a much more centre leadership team to create a fresh start. This needs to happen soon rather than later.

As a woman, I'm absolutely shit scared about the future for women and girls in this country and I'm pleased that Musk has brought some attention to the rape and torture gangs. It's crazy that some people are trying to minimise what has been happening and blasphemy laws seem nearer and nearer every day. It's all absolutely horrific and terrifying!

I think the thing is when people mention Blasphemy laws they are often referencing the call by Hall Green MP Tahir Ali to Starmer “Will the prime minister commit to introducing measures to prohibit the desecration of all religious texts and the prophets of the Abrahamic religions?”

So who are the prophets of the Abrahamic religions? Well, that does not include Jesus as the Son of God, the only place he is a prophet is in Islam. Ali was calling for an Islam framed blasphemy law. We need to make sure we are very clear about that. His wording very specifically excluded large parts of the Christian belief system being included in any blasphemy laws. It also very notably excluded all other religions including Hinduism, neo paganism etc from protection. He was saying Islam should be protected above all other belief and non- belief systems. How long before laws were called for banning books?

I think also that social media has changed dramatically since the last time Labour were in power. They're not used to dealing with it while they are making the decisions.

But people who think Labour are currently doing a good job are living in cloud cuckoo land. And they won't be able to blame it on the previous government forever.

Why ever not? The Tories blamed everything on Labour the whole time despite being in power for 14 years.

Of course they are. Labour have never been a party for the economy. They live in lala land when it comes to economics. Their budget basically told business owners, the very people who create this country’s wealth to go fuck themselves.

Not only did they increase national insurance to ridiculous levels and minimum wages up, they also saddled their kids with massive IHT charges and the more they grow their business, the bigger the problem for their kids. Many business owners are massively disincentivised, we need incentivised entrepreneurs and business owners..

Interestingly in all their flattening of the non- domicile tax regime, people who are domiciled in India and Pakistan (and a couple of other countries) can continue to benefit from rules keeping their assets outside the UK IHT net. This was not an oversight and was specifically mentioned in the Budget notes. Go figure! I’d actually like the Daily Mail to pick that one up and make enquiries.

Goodness me, such language. Did I touch a nerve? You’re the naive one. Obviously very young and with no real life experience under different governments. They are yesterday’s chip paper and yes, Labour’s lead is increasing. See, I managed a polite response, you need to try it some time.

Why are you scared about a notional 'far right' uprising but not about the actual reality of 1000s of young girls being raped, abused and murdered while the authorities turned a blind eye? Why does an unelected blowhard like Musk give you the fear but not MPs in actual government who believe that 9 year old girls were 'asking for it'?

I know what scares me. Mass abuse of little girls being treated as an inconvenience or culture war by the party in power.
