Absolutely shit scared about the future in the UK?

Name changed - I’m genuinely terrified by the hate, division and atmosphere here right now, online and spilling over on the ‘the real world’. I’m scared by how quickly things are changing, and just how much influence the US/Elon Musk/Reform+supporters are having. I’m scared of what the actual point of it all is - what’s the endgame? And what’s the solution? Why is no one protesting/rising up from the other way? Do people generally agree with all this?

I’m in no way a minority (white, female, 30s), I’m not super left, I have one little boy and I’m so scared for his future. I don’t want to live somewhere so intolerant with this constant atmosphere of distrust and something getting ready to blow.

What’s the general consensus? Is this what the people of the U.K. want?

The rape and pimping gangs operating among groups of Muslim men in northern cities (and some elsewhere) for decades have specific common features. It's easy to disappear them into CSA in the U.K. as a whole if you ignore those common features, which is exactly what the last two "inquiries" have done.

They deserve to be recognised as a specific issue, not handwaved away. So do other specific forms of child abuse, exploitation and sexual violence. Focus is needed for all these issues rather than "all child abuse is bad, there's nothing to see that's out of the ordinary here".

PandoraSox · 06/01/2025 13:36

Data is now being collected on child sexual exploitation. I think this is the first such data to be published. The very good FT article it is from is here (eta: there is a link in the article to the full data, but I couldn't paste it here).

I mean to add

Important note on the data:
• It’s important to note that ethnicity data is limited and should be treated with caution, in 2023 only 34% (n.2266/6670) of suspects had a recorded self-defined ethnicity (SDE) and for victims this was 47% (n.2058/4422)

Yes, it's very relevant, this note.

A civil war between whom?

Then why do you think there will be one?

OK, Daily Fail

It is not my job to keep you up to date with the tangible civil unrest - read, go out and see for yourself and make your own mind up, and then report it in the Daily Fail

I now have no idea what you are on about. I wouldn't wipe my backside on the Daily Fail.

We have given away our childrens futures. Your kid cannot even get an NHS dentist appointment nowadays, nevermind assume they will be housed.

Why assume your kid would be housed? There is a housing crisis, it’s better to educate your kids and help them get them on the property ladder instead of expecting the council to house them.

Iwanttoliveonamountain · 06/01/2025 14:09

That paper just printed a fake bad news article about Spitalfields and Brick lane. Absolutely unrecognisable from the actual place.

Looks like Asian gangs are a small minority as we already knew, even with the note, the proportions will likely be similar.
I'm bowing out of this thread now. It's taken up too much of my time this afternoon.

"Even with the note" which proves they only know in a third of cases? Confused also, this is a white majority country, you'd expect there to be more child exploitation by white perpetrators just from the numbers. But it's a handy way to pretend there isn't a specific problem.

And of course these are known cases. Tbh that data isn’t very useful at all

There was no mention of council housing. What makes you think the poster meant Council Housing?

No need to be baity

By poster you mean you, right?

You said ‘your kids won’t be housed anymore’, which implies social housing.

Council housing is a pretty integral part of the way the country runs to be honest thiugh. A lot of council housing is now occupied by immigrants meaning the rest of the population must battle with the private renting sector, if they can't afford to buy (which many, particularly younger people now can't). I mean if you don't understand that social housing is a major issue tofay then good luck to you in any debate about the UK.

JDNCh · 06/01/2025 16:38

To be honest, this thread, plus the pace of news today has made me feel like I am justified to be scared!! How much worse do things have to get before change for the better? What the actual fuck is happening in the world?! Whilst staying off social media is absolutely a good thing, it’s impossible to ignore that this is the real world now.

We cannot build our way out of this.

The numbers of foreign workers needed to build social housing are staggering. They will need housing as well, basically they will be building for themselves.

As they say, if you build it they will come.

The main causes are the tanking economy since Brexit and before then in the last big crash paired with increased unskilled and largely undocumented immigration had led to a sizeable drop in living standards for the majority of people. It's not really hard to see why people are pissed off, I don't know what you're so surprised about.

Or we could invest in training our own population, but that doesn't keep house prices and the COL sky high like most people in power (of all politicsl parties) want.

I’m not at all surprised that people are pissed off. I’m scared about the future of the U.K. (and the world really).
