What are people doing to their faces?!

Mania89 · 03/01/2025 23:27

I am mid 30s. Colour my hair, wear makeup, thread my eyebrows etc so not completely natural but my goodness what are people doing to their faces?! Young women who are beautiful now have so much injected into their faces that they cannot move them at all. I was looking back at photos in my mid 20s and was wondering why on earth did I worry about my looks at all. Hindsight is wonderful! And I am despairing that girls younger than this have already started to inject Botox and fillers. The world is going mad and don’t even get me started on weight loss injections for those who are not clinically obese! I have two daughters and really feel so worried for them up.

Bloody hell. I really hope you’re a man.

Just pick up on one line instead of the rest of it. I really hope you can read.

Sorry, my mistake@NewBootsWeather. It wasn’t you who originally used that awful expression.

The wider context doesn’t make it look any better unfortunately.

I am surprised all the baboon butt jokes and memes don’t put people off.

Asyoulikeit123 · 07/01/2025 10:22

Agreed, very strange, reminds me of the creepy blow up dolls that used to be available.

The thing I've always wondered... Those who choose to drastically alter their looks with injectables or surgery, and have children. Firstly they alter their looks because they are unhappy with them. Do they look at their children, who used to look like their parent and geel unhappy with their child's looks too? I can't get my head around this. Also, one of life's great joys for me is when I see a family resemblance or trait in my children. It makes me feel connected and part of something, yet you alter your face and that goes away. Finally, how heartbreaking for a youn girl, as an example, as she begins to wonder why mummy doesn't want to look like her?

Finally, worth mentioning this seems rife in the UK. But the UK has always been celeb obsessed. I've noticed in other cultures it's not the same, and consequently I think the intense botox filler look is less in other countries and cultures. Why?

My mum has had many cosmetic surgeries and procedures and I found it very upsetting.

No one in my family looked like me as I didn’t have a relationship with my dad. She would also court attention in real life and on social media (and still does) and I would feel insecure and frumpy in comparison. My dc look like me now and I love that.

I grew up with people telling me how amazing my mum looked and I went through a phase of having things done to try to emulate her. She never had the overdone lips etc, it was all very expensive work but it is sad that even at nearly 70 she feels that pressure to look perfect. It hasn’t made her happy.

User14March · 07/01/2025 12:05

@WhoisRebecca sounds like my mother, despite the fact she’s 80 some think at first I am her mother & my father her father! It’s a fear of ageing, Trinny etc and other women in the public eye have spoken about it.

Looks in women can confer real status & power. I have a beautiful friend in 50s who can pass for 20 years younger. She’s great but has s fawning following on social media etc.

I am offsite today working and noted a mother & daughter at breakfast. The daughter was taking endless selfies. This just promotes a desire to enhance, improve for the gram & so find lacking.

Technonan · 07/01/2025 12:06

I was a teen in the 60s and early 70s where the look was big, backcombed beehive hair, loads of eye stuff, no lips. Looking back at photos, it was a dreadful look. Even professionally made-up people looked pretty dire. But it was all temporary. It washed off, no harm done apart from a few embarrassing photos.

Now, with fillers that blow your lips up to ludicrous sizes, other fillers, botox etc - we have no idea what the long-term consequences will be. I'm with you, OP. I hate this distorted idea of beauty - huge boobs, huge butts (very dangerous op btw), huge lips and artificially sculpted faces. In real life, a lot of this looks grotesque. It doesn't look that good on the screen. And it doesn't just wash off.

Maggiethecat · 07/01/2025 13:58

I’m told I look a lot younger than I am. Never had work done and don’t wear makeup (never learned how to properly use).
The thing is, I look at my face and see the frown lines and think ‘what if I had Botox….’
But the thought doesn’t linger because I think I prefer the freedom of not having to think about consequences or repeat procedures or being drawn into wanting more work done.
I’m grateful that my well being is not affected by how I think others perceive me physically but it’s probably not so easy for young women and media influence these days.

Had to look up Zoe; does sound a ridiculous ruse!

”A starter kit for the ZOE diet costs £299.99, and membership starts at £24.99 per month”

actually, for lots of people, including me, it's been a game changer. I started it a couple of years ago, lost about 20lb without trying, never hungry, eat really well (just having a brownie with my coffee right now). I have increased energy, rarely ill and it solved my gut issues. Worth every penny to learn what foods work best for my body and how to combine them for maximum benefit.

If at any point in my yo yo dieting past you had said to me "you will lose your post menopausal belly fat, wear size 8 jeans, eat what you want, never feel hungry, don't have to think about calories ever again, but it might cost you £24.99 a month" I would have bitten your hand off to sign up. As it is, there is now a £9.99 monthly option once you finish the testing / lessons period. Not everyone feels the need to keep using the app once they finish the programme so it costs them nothing, some people continue to log, others just use the app for the recipes and to find out what a "new" food might score. After 2yrs I can pretty accurately guess what anything would score for me, I just use the app for recipes and inspiration.

It doesn't seem to have taken off among MNetters like Ozempic clearly has, but there are lots of FB support groups. It doesn't work for everyone - I have friends who really couldn't be arsed to log their food in order to see the impact and one who has a disordered relationship with food anyway and just ate her weight in the foods that were good for her and put on weight.

It only works if you take the the process seriously and change your eating habits, but it is a 4month, structured, programme, to work through that process.

Speak out? Lol. Speak out against people looking how they want to look?

And op is clearly upset. Enough so to make an entire thread. What other words would you prefer? Perturbed? Distressed? Hysterical? Traumatized? All rather hyperbolic in comparison but not necessarily inaccurate either.

What other women look like, wether that be filler, hair dye, peircings, tattoos, fat, thin, boob job, short skirts or other clothing choices, doesn't matter a dot to me. So I'm not starting threads about it, desperately trying to find other judgey mares to snort at other women with. I don't feel the need to have my opinions validated by others. I don't need to put other women down. I don't need to busy body in something which, frankly, is optional. Nobody is expecting you to get filler or Botox if you don't like it. I don't go around saying 'urgh, look at that woman with wissened little prune lips! She desperately needs some filler to look normal!' because it would be a twatty thing to say. The same can't be said for those who are sanctimonious about women doing anything to xosmetically alter their appearance, they can't resist sticking their opinion in when it has no effect on their life and no effect on them. These thoughts about others are often also rooted in deep misogyny, these threads reinforce the notion that women's bodies are open to critique and criticism. Posters will often express disgust and say how terrible it looks but then go on to suggest that it makes them or other women feel inadequate. These two statements are contradictory, which means neither argument against is is a particularly good one. Often these type of argument only masquerade as concern, when in reality they come from a place of hatred for other women for simply existing and making choices that do not have any bearing on your life, but do not affirm or align with your own set of beliefs. This is prejudice.

"Often these type of argument only masquerade as concern, when in reality they come from a place of hatred for other women for simply existing and making choices that do not have any bearing on your life, but do not affirm or align with your own set of beliefs. This is prejudice"..........
I wasn't going to bother commenting but the end of this comment is just wrong in the main, and quite offensive. It doesn't come from a place of 'hatred' or 'prejudice' - just from a place of wondering why so many (& it's a lot of men too actually) want to use such treatments (sometimes with risk to health) when there was nothing wrong with their looks in the first place, and in fact, a lot of very lovely looking women/men still feel the need.

But yes, I do agree - it is their choice, and their business.

Yet.

Bet your inner voice sees the woman who has chin hairs, or monobrow or maybe some big zits and you've thought...you could sort that out and look better...

It's the sex doll look I find so alarming. When did looking like a porn movie actress become something to aspire to?

It's sad when women see their value solely in terms of their sexual attractiveness. They also need to think of how men are seeing them and the type of man that likes to see women in this way.

Yes, this.

Don’t act like a feminist when you pose that educated statement to someone who is defending other women and refusing to budge on their opinion that other women shouldn’t come to a public forum to bash other women. Your insinuation is nonsensical since I’m clearly against the bashing of women, regardless of the attempted disguise as a debate. The volume of people trying to misinterpret my stance and use it negatively is disgusting. Quoting feminist movements against a woman defending women is dumb

I’m really not who you’re suggesting I am. I genuinely care about this. I’m not bashing women, quite the reverse, I would love us to live in a world where we don’t have patriarchal demands on how we look. I don’t think I’m dumb, thank you, but like everyone I definitely have bad days where I think bad things about myself, I’d rather not read the types of comments you’ve made, but I’ll survive.

I genuinely hope for a better future for women and girls. It’s hard to keep that hope based on the way things are going, but will keep trying.

I feel sympathy for anyone with zits, sometimes there’s nothing that can help. But as an old woman with chin hairs, who used to have a monobrow in my younger days, I view those as on a par with brushing my hair, or putting on a bit of lippy. A quick tidy. No comparison to permanent, and sometimes dangerous procedures.

It really doesn't matter what your 'inner voice' says as long as your speaking voice keep quiet.

I'd be surprised if a woman would look at another with a 'you could sort that out' judgement. What's the point of that exactly? Sort your own shit out, leave others to do what they want.

chocolatespreadsandwich · 08/01/2025 13:16

Surely if women who have had Botox /filler are truly happy with how they look then they wouldn't be so thin skinned as to insist noone can comment on how those treatments make people look?

To me the anger being displayed here suggests a level of discomfort at the end result

Respectfully, stop trying to engage me. I haven’t once agreed with procedures, idgaf about your attempts at twisting my words. Go and bash women and keep being in their business if that’s what you really want to do.

I STILL WONT SLATE WOMEN ONLINE IN A PUBLIC FORUM,

I hope you have a nice day and find it within you to raise women up.

I think you have some issues as you keep just coming on to the thread about putting women down.

We are concerned. You are the one twisting people's words.

One of my friend's DDs had lip filler and she didn't need it. Her Mum said she looked beautiful without it. Luckily her DD realised it didn't make her look better and she hasn't had it done since.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 08/01/2025 14:19

There's just no point posting to them, they just keep on and on derailing.

This is too important a topic to have this loudmouth taking over the conversation. I'm posting around them for now.
