What are people doing to their faces?!

Mania89 · 03/01/2025 23:27

I am mid 30s. Colour my hair, wear makeup, thread my eyebrows etc so not completely natural but my goodness what are people doing to their faces?! Young women who are beautiful now have so much injected into their faces that they cannot move them at all. I was looking back at photos in my mid 20s and was wondering why on earth did I worry about my looks at all. Hindsight is wonderful! And I am despairing that girls younger than this have already started to inject Botox and fillers. The world is going mad and don’t even get me started on weight loss injections for those who are not clinically obese! I have two daughters and really feel so worried for them up.

Fully fall on my sword here. I can see that now. I’m horrified though that defence of that reptilian scumbag could seem even slightly plausible in this day and age. I am really scared of Elon and his absolute power via wealth. Same with Putin; look what his embezzled oil millions did for the world. Dark times.

The thing that always strikes me is that apart from anything else, these are more risky interventions than what we would have normally associated with beauty trends in recent decades.

Any time you are injecting stuff or breaking the skin there is a greater chance of infection being introduced, even if you are careful and diligent. Plus a lot of these procedures have other serious potential side effects.

The risk/benefit balance is off.

This is is what I find so worrying.
The number of adverts for fairly invasive procedures that I see, from people who have done a short course and are clearly doing this in their kitchen, is really scary.
People have become blasé over invasive, risky procedures as though it were choosing a new moisturiser or shade of foundation.

Me too, mixed up @CovenOfCheeses with @Closetheblinds
We really do need a change of font to indicate sarcasm on here at times.

Edited

🤣 ugh jeez I’m sooooo offended is there a sarcasm font because it’s needed there.

Angrymum22 · 06/01/2025 23:15

Maybe we should start using the italics to indicate sarcasm. It may take off.

We are a very sarcastic family, its second nature but so difficult to pick up on forums because so many people actually believe what they are saying.

Angrymum22 · 06/01/2025 23:18

Or how about all the buttons

Imagine if people didn’t use their autonomy in that way. How controlled of them.

This attitude towards woman is awful - filler or no filler! When did it become the norm to talk about women’s bodies so openly and in a derogatory manner?

Sorry OP, but surely you knew by starting this thread it would attract a huge amount of nasty bullies who enjoy talking about other women in a derogatory manner?

I think women have enough problems without other women piling on as well.

my mother told me, “if you cannot say something nice, then don’t say anything at all”. I didn’t listen.

No - quite the opposite. I wanted to discuss why women or just people in general wish to do this to their bodies!

Hey! You can’t come on here to defend women, they don’t like it and you will be the bad guy 🤣 if they try to correct you, you cannot disagree. It’s negativity only apparently.

Angrymum22 · 06/01/2025 23:43

And yet we are all aware of the tale of The Emporers New Clothes. Children have an uncanny ability to say it how it is and often their comments are absolutely on point.

We teach them to think about peoples feelings but I do sometimes wonder whether we are right to ignore the obvious.

I remember dressing in all the New Age clobber as a teenager. My DSis and I thought we were so cool. My DF took one look and couldn’t stop laughing. He disappeared and returned with his camera. I recently came across the photos he took, over 40yrs ago, he was right, I laughed my head off.

Unfortunately or rather fortunately those trends were absolutely reversible. I wonder how many women are going to look back at their pre filler photos in 20-30 yrs time and cry. These procedures are going to alter faces permanently and will need to be performed over and over again to maintain the “look”.

I’m not going to be around in 20-30 yrs but are we going to see a total meltdown in mental health as the realisation coincides with menopause a the inevitable aging process it accompanies. They are already demonstrating their insecurities as it is.

Tiswa · 07/01/2025 00:24

I just saw a picture from the golden globes where Demi Moore and Kylie Jenner due to the similar work look a similar age.
Demi Moore looks good for 62 yes she has had work but I understand it and it works
Kylie Jenner doesn’t and has ruined her natural youthful beauty

Nicecuppatea2025 · 07/01/2025 01:39

I don’t give two hoots if Kylie Jenner was naturally good looking or not before she had the work done. I do care that her and other influencers and media and big business are peddling absolutely crap,
often expensive and sometimes dangerous procedures to impressionable people.

Also can’t stand this ‘so and so looks good for their age’ rubbish. Being a mature woman of 62 is totally fine and acceptable (plus very freeing and utterly brilliant). Holding older women up to younger beauty standards and placing value in their looks in that particular manner is just silly talk.

No, I don’t remember the last time I made something up. What I’ve said above is factual. And rather well known, if somewhat prone to be forgotten in recent times.

Mrsredlipstick · 07/01/2025 06:23

A new programme presented by Olivia Attwood started last night. ITV2 I think.
I watched a few minutes but will re tune in today. It's an indepth look at beauty proceedures.
One women was even having her pubic hair restored!
What the hell are women doing? I can't see many men going through this type of shit.

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 07/01/2025 06:34

Some of the cosmetic procedures are mad ,I remember reading of one it was a bum lift and it was carried out in a hotel room and if that wasn't bad enough household silicone was used!
Unsurprisingly the young woman died.

I think this poor lady left four children.

That's a harsh outcome for all concerned 😞

sorry I made it late and night and may have either failed to or you missed the point entirely as that isn’t what I was saying at all

Don’t act like a feminist when you pose that educated statement to someone who is defending other women and refusing to budge on their opinion that other women shouldn’t come to a public forum to bash other women. Your insinuation is nonsensical since I’m clearly against the bashing of women, regardless of the attempted disguise as a debate. The volume of people trying to misinterpret my stance and use it negatively is disgusting. Quoting feminist movements against a woman defending women is dumb

Bunch of bored housewives 😂

NewBootsWeather · 07/01/2025 08:55

@Closetheblinds if it is discussed then maybe young women might read and realise it doesn't have to be the normal to mess with their faces.

I’m sure the underlying mental health issues that go along with the extreme fillers are going to be resolved with a thread of bitchy comments. You nailed it.
