And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

@Feelingathomenow don't bother trying to goad me.

I’m not, I was just responding to your “have a nice Saturday” I was just being polite wishing you the same.

Should we keep doing inquiry after inquiry or just start actually acting on the recommendations of said inquiry.

You may be happy for this to be brushed under a rug. Many are not.

Aduvetday · 04/01/2025 11:06

All of it was pathetic. Remain ex Labour voter here - now Lib Dem. All of it has caused the issues we now have. Spectacular that people are so unaware of that.

The fact is a hell of a lot can happen in 4 or 5 years. Predicting the next election now is ridiculous particularly when you consider all the shit and mess the Tories inflicted on this country whilst clinging on to power.

Rees Mogg, Brexiteer extraordinaire, reckons any benefit from Brexit will take 50 years to materialise. I’ll be dead by then. Forgive me if I’d like the country to be better in my lifetime.

Oh I love the Greek Poverb “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they will never sit” such wonderful sentiment don’t you think. It gives a real meaning to life.

However this thread is about Musk. It is crystal clear why figures like him are taking hold. If the radical left don’t realise that pronto and stop alienating the politically homeless - his popularity will increase. It will be completely self-inflicted.

You feel there has been a sufficient inquiry that should be actioned. Most people do not.

Strange how most of the high ups in Trumps government. Including trump. Are ex left wing democrats isn’t it…

Did they ask all Britons? Do we really still believe polls?

Oh I’m sure it’s a sample - just like the Musk one I was countering. I mean if they asked all Britons it could end up with Musk being more popular than Starmer. I mean I wasn’t asked.

He isn’t taking hold though. He’s well known to be a complete and utter loon. Everybody I know is eternally grateful we don’t have the likes of Trump and Musk leading our country. Sitting back and watching the fallout will be bloody fantastic for labour( and anybody with a brain).

But I don’t think it was an “idiotic statement” when you look at the different definition ms of a majority, Labour clearly don’t have a huge majority when it comes to the popular vote.. They have the most number of MPs which gives them the majority of seats in the commons. Whether or not this gives them a clear mandate given they only received a third of votes is a matter of opinion. I don’t think that view is “daft” it is an opinion that has been put forward for years by all sides of the political spectrum at various times and, indeed, in various countries.

Given the massive changes in the way people live now and the spread of parties and indeed changes to eligibility to vote compared to when the parliamentary system was established many intelligent people have called repeatedly for the system to be revisited, happen to agree with them.

Put much better than me.

SerendipityJane · 04/01/2025 11:21

I guess we can sensibly predict some things. It’s unlikely Starmer will be the leader going into the next election. His first impressions as leader will be impossible to shake off. He’s lots most of the swing voters for good. Labour will need new leadership to get rid of that Albatross. Even so, any opposition will contrary remind the electorate of the mess Starmer made so it’s unlikely any replacement will be able to turn things around sufficiently. I would hazard a guess we will end up with a Tory/Reform coalition unless the course of history suffers a major disruption, even then, it’s hard to see Labour getting a second term except if there is a massively overriding need for stability.

You keep telling yourself that. It’s exactly these sorts of opinions that will bite them on the arse next election and see a possible Reform/Con coalition. It seems everyone but for hard Labour voters can see it. Some may say it’s payback for being so smug. It would be hilarious if it wouldn’t be a disaster.

I doubt very much that the Tories and the huge mess they have inflicted for 4 years will be voted into power any time soon. Pretty sure when labour policies kick in and the electorate start enjoying the benefits the Tories will be kicked under the bus for good.

Can you please try and form a coherent argument? You simply put three statements, none of which have any connection to the rational observer. I sure you think you’ve stumbled across some wonderful argument, would you be so kind as to share it with us lesser mortals.

I’m not hard labour though. I have voted green, Lib Dem and labour. It’s my type of vote that is crucial. I’ll never vote Tory after the last 24 years and I’m not alone.Hard labour will always be hard labour. The Tories have shot themselves in the foot with the grey vote, soo many pensioners are angry.

Thank you for the laugh on this grey and dull morning. Do Labour have any policies apart from “blame the Tories” what are they doing to stop the boats for example because the numbers crossing are only going up under the Labour Government

Elon ruined twitter - which was a fantastic place for free speech. He doesn't give a shit about free speech. He wanted twitter to be a more divisive place and it is.

He has an agenda, and it won't serve anyone else but him.

We have free speech in this country, we have a free press, and there's normally interesting back and forth here. Not the brigading that you're doing.

This is the biggest load of rubbish I’ve read and I’ve barely started reading this thread.

i don’t know when you were active on twitter @Gatecrashermum but it certainly wasn’t a “fantastic place for free speech” pre-Elon.

Even more laughable that you think we had a free press too.

Not half as angry as they are with Labour. My vote is crucial too, I’ve voted Labour, Tory, Green, Lib Dem, Reform and independent- my vote is there for the taking. I would say the only party I have been a paid up member of is Labour for full disclosure.

They went up hugely under the Tories and their laughable extortionate Rueanda policy that has removed money from the nhs and education. Lets give labour a little longer than a few months shall we. We gave the Tories 14 years.

Unfortunately for the Tories the grey vote cares about the nhs - a lot and they need the grey vote to survive.
