And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

People just can't get over the fact that Labour won the election, have far more seats in Parliament than any other party and are not going to be ousted any time soon.

I know it is difficult to come to terms with when a party you hate wins power. I was devastated in 2019 when the Tories won with a large majority (even though they didn't have the majority some posters have now decided is needed to have a majority. Or something).

But one has to accept reality.

I don’t find giving straightforward answers on the different established definitions of voting particularly disorientating, but thanks for your concern.

Would it be of help if I offered definitions of each, because I am confused why you would think setting out common definitions of majority used in connection with voting across a broad range of situations is “twisting” anything Therefore, I can only assume I haven’t made myself clear. So happy to clarify for you if you need me to.

Do you live in the UK. I only ask because you seemed unaware of the 2011 referendum.

Or even the 2016 one. 😉

@MrsRagnarLothbrok no I don't and I've been a big contributor to the prince Andrew threads have you??

I've also contributed to any thread on here about children being attacked.

Have you?

And finally because the focus and subject on this thread is what's in the current news I'm talking about this.

Are you?

Economically Brexit has done untold damage. You don’t live here, do you?

Live where? in Britain? Yes, I do thanks. Why would you think I don’t live in Britain? I’ve never lived anywhere else - did some global travelling when I was younger - made me realise how wonderful Britain is tbh. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else (maybe Norway - that’s a fantastic country -not sure I could cope with the cold/lack of daylight in winter). What about you? Where do you live? Would you like to live anywhere else?

I think long term we could use the opportunities from Brexit to improve the situation in the UK. I’m not sure short term economics is the best thing to measure a country by though. I think the good of a country involves so much more.

It’s always difficult though to know whether things would be better in a different situation. It’s like all those “what would have happened if Hitler had won the war” programmes - boils down to pure speculation and conjecture which turns out to be little more than reflecting the ideology of the programme’s maker. Always interesting to get a glimpse into another persons imagination though- you can learn a lot.

Abhannmor · 04/01/2025 09:41

Hard disagree. In Ireland no single party has won an outright majority since the 70s thanks to the Single Transferable Vote. Coalition is the normal state of affairs and there are very few 'safe seats ' . Politicians here often hate PR and there have been two attempts to abolish it by Referendum . But the Irish electorate is far too cute to fall for FPTP electoral dictatorship.

Back on point : in the UK now you have 3 parties that nobody much likes , all polling in the 20s. There's no mad clamour out there for Badenoch or Farage to take over. Saying the government should resign every time theres a bad poll is ludicrous. I can remember when Brits would joke about Italy or France and their revolving door premierships.

PandoraSox · 04/01/2025 09:42

The good news is that the majority of British people don't give a rat's arse what Musk thinks.

Have a lovely Saturday everyone.

Overseas residents or citizens should not get involved on another Nations government or policies. That said, the government which they are criticizing should not allow the circumstances which cause this to occur.

You don't really believe that though do you?

What about people who have two passports?

Why all this concern about my domicile? Can confirm very much British born and bred and still living in this gorgeous country. What about you.

im not sure why you think I’m unaware of the Alterntive vote vote. I can clearly remember standing in the voting booth marking my X on that paper, together with the others. I can also clearly remember standing in the same primary school hall a few years later for the Brexit referendum (even stayed up most of the night watching that)

Not sure why you thought I was unaware of either tbh. But then your arguments aren’t very clear.

Ah, I can see your point now. Only 17% of Britains trust Musk in comparison to 21% trusting Starmer, bloody landslide majority right there

Ah, you want him shutting down because he has a different opinion from yours. Typical leftie attitude. Might get your wish if you lived in dictatorships like North Korea, but thank God America (and the UK) still believe in free speech. His advocates and followers have the right to listen and agree with his POV on world politics. We have to listen to rantings from people like Lineker on politics here, along with other clueless 'celebs', but it is what it is. You dont like that people have different views from you....then that's just too bad

Rees Mogg, Brexiteer extraordinaire, reckons any benefit from Brexit will take 50 years to materialise. I’ll be dead by then. Forgive me if I’d like the country to be better in my lifetime.

Does Musk make recurring comments like this about South African politics?
Why not?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/01/2025 10:29

Yes! A hundred times yes!

Equally I was astounded when a group of Labour Party members apparently went across the pond to lecture Americans on how to vote in the Presidential election. MYOB!

Similarly, I really thought Obama should have minded his own business when he took it upon himself to tell us how to vote in the Brexit referendum.

We can only deduce that they are perfect and the model to follow.

In fact, as a US citizen, the real question for people who aren't stupid is why is Musk talking about the UK. If my neighbour told me my house is on fire, I would immediately look behind me to deal with it. If some gobshite cunt from another country who transferred his allegiance to a 3rd country crossed the Atlantic to tell me my house was on fire my first thought would be "lock the doors and call the police. This is some sort of criminal scam"

Clearly I'm just not stupid. I wish I was. Everything would be so simple.

Depends doesn’t it. The pollsters who accurately predicted the election result are now predicting that Labour could lose 100 seats to Reform.

I guess it depends on what side of the fence you are on and picking a “side.”

More balanced people who are self aware would see there is a HUGE vacuum being created by the left. An own goal. All the shutting down of discourse, cancelling, bullying, Labour won get over it, racist, thicko, thug, etc, etc. Well look what it’s doing? It’s created a space for people and populist figures to fill the gap. They will get more extreme - the more the above continues. As I say, spectacular own goal. Who knows if it’s a complete lack of self awareness of their own actions or a complete lack on understanding about politics/history/human nature.

All of it was pathetic. Remain ex Labour voter here - now Lib Dem. All of it has caused the issues we now have. Spectacular that people are so unaware of that.
