And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

Labour have a massive majority. You're not going to get a no-confidence vote in the government. We've seen from the Tories that the Prime Minister resigning just means another PM from the same party, same as scandals and crises, and external pressure for a new mandate would be very odd given that we've literally just had a general election.

The constant suggestion that the Labour government are on the brink of collapsing is just wishful thinking.

They do not have a massive majority.

they have a parliamentary majority. And a very very shallow one at that.

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2025 22:20

MonkeyVsBunny · 03/01/2025 22:17

Labour does not have a “huge majority” stop repeating that quite obvious lie.

30% of the people who voted is no majority.

You don't appear to know what a huge majority means.

Labour have a huge majority means that they have way more MPs than all the other parties combined and can vote whatever they like through parliament because even if some Labour MPs vote against the government along with every other MP, it doesn't matter, they still have the numbers.

It is not a lie. Labour has a huge Parliamentary majority. That is the only majority which counts under FPTP, whether you like it or not.

The more the Government tries to shut Mr Robinson up by banging him up, the more his followers will rally around him, they don't seem to understand the anger particularly in the working class

Yaxley-Lennon is not an MP, nor does he represent any political party. It matters not how many supporters he has. Even Farage wants nothing to do with him

How is that relevant? Did her protests bring about an early end to Trump's administration? They didn't and neither will Musk's actions bring about an early end to Starmer's administration.

I think it's highly relevant that the PM's wife is standing next to a 'Down With Trump' sign - quite amusing as well.

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2025 22:24

Apparently some people on social media are trying to redefine what is meant by huge majority in an attempt to make Starmer's situation appear more perilous than it actually is.

Either that, or they have never actually talked about politics before and don't understand what basic stuff means.

Deluded?

when the share of votes cast was 35%

when opinion polls put the tories and Reform BOTH above Labour.

THIS IS A SHALLOW PARLIAMENTARY MAJORITY

if you think it’s not somehow shallow, tell me why it’s deep and unchallengeable?

I don't think Starmer can last long on his current approval ratings which are dreadful.

I think Rachel Reeves will be gone first.

BECAUSE THEY HAVE WAY MORE MPS THAN EVERY OTHER PARTY PUT TOGETHER AND THAT'S WHAT A HUGE MAJORITY MEANS.

hth.

Parliamentary majority means seats.

actual majority is popular vote.

Labour
has the first not the second

and given how far they have slid in the last six m the they would lose the next election quickly.

and one will be called early….

This thread has taken a strange turn. Do you not understand what a Parliamentary majority is? Labour has a big one.

Only around 62% of the UK public voted though, so over HALF the people who voted, voted for Labour.

Shame you can't accept democracy in a democratic country.

THE UK VOTED FOR LABOUR! Get over it.

If they do what the Tories did and limp on for the 5 year term they'll get wiped out at the next election UNLESS things can turn around. But they have no solution to the immigration issue (particularly the boats) and the budget was a calamity. The leader is despised and the Chancellor is on borrowed time.

It's a cabinet of lightweights and political discourse is febrile. They can cry about Musk but the same Tory papers who might have done easy on the Tories (like the Mail and the Telegraph) will not give this government an inch.

Dear god.

Do you understand how voting works in parliament? Do you understand why you need a majority of MPs to form a government? And if you have a huge majority, you can vote whatever you like through parliament?

Do you understand what a majority is when people are talking about governments, and how it is nothing to do with vote share?

Are you even old enough to vote, because if you are, you really should look into this stuff.

randomchap · 03/01/2025 22:30

Labour have 402 seats, the next biggest party have 121. All the other non-Labour parties have less than 250 seats combined.

How is that not a massive majority?

Fluffyholeysocks · 03/01/2025 22:31

Of the 650 seats in Parliament, Labour won 411 at the GE. So they do have a large Parliamentary Majority. As of 31st Oct they have a Parliamentary Majority of 402 due to suspensions, Rosie Duffield and the bloke that was caught fighting.

Birdscratch · 03/01/2025 22:34

The fact that there are posters that don’t even understand the British bloody parliamentary system speaks volumes.
