JK rowling is a British taxpayer and voter. Musk is none of those things.

JK Rowling also genuinely cares about women and girls and I don’t think she is particularly racist either (not that I have seen).

Her concern is not faux. She genuinely cares about the victims here.

I'm equally disturbed at mumsnetters cheerleading for president elect musk and tommy Robinson.

Who is cheerleading for TR? Can you link?

Frankly, I don't care if Noddy, Big Ears and Asterix start speaking up for women's rights in this country because if we rely on this government, we will soon feel a cold wind.

This is not some piddling little matter, this is a matter that requires support from wherever in the world it comes and we should hold our nose and take it.

Or we can lament the spotlight on this long-running child rape and torture scandal, and associated cover-up, because the person highlighting it is on the wrong team. I’m pro-spotlight and anti-cover-up (and anti-mass-rape), even if it’s my opponents opposing it.

No, I am opposed to Musk making political capital out of this in an attempt to destabilise British democracy. He isn't ON a team, as he has no place at all in British politics..

justasking111 · 03/01/2025 13:57

Well Lammy criticises America frequently. So why can't an American criticise Britain.

You need to take your evidence and energies to the Police in Rotherham.

Really, because that's worked in the past, or the police will ignore again, South Yorkshire police is hardly known for being competent, the council is laughable, and the MP is more interested in photo ops that holding people to account.

People who reported to police in past have been threatened by the gang, and if you aren't listened to you do think what's the point.

People who don't live in these towns really don't get what it's actually like.

BBC have separate branches for Northern Ireland you know as northern Ireland is part of the UK! Also BBC Wales. BBC Scotland! Wales, Scotland & N.I are all part of the UK. Outside of the UK no-one gives a toss!

Edited

The BBC world service provides news and information internationally in 42 languages.

Also to be honest I don’t the rest of the world is going to care that much about rape gangs in the UK. You honestly think audiences in Sudan, Iran, Syria, Argentina are going to ignore their home grown problems to focus on others.

As the soon-to-be grandmother of a girl, I feel it is important that we should continue to have governments that we can hold to account, and not governments answerable only to foreign (or even British) billionaires

And do you feel they are? I don't at all feel like they feel any accountability on this or other matters. Labour nor Conservative before.

What a load of crap. PayPal was co-founded by Max Levchin, Peter Thiel and Luke Nosek.

Poor people cannot afford Teslas.

The impact of Tesla is not really in who drives them, it’s in driving down the cost of the technology through innovation and scale, and in outrunning the existing US carmakers who have every incentive to slow-roll EV adoption.

If you take the climate threat seriously, as I do, proving and scaling the technology and changing that cost profile is a really big deal. That is not spoiled by the fact that some rich people get nice cars too. Frankly that’s almost an irrelevance in determining whether it’s a good thing for humanity. It’s a very good thing, unless you think climate concerns are overblown (and even then, pollution reduction and the associated health benefits would justify it).

He can. But the disinformation spreading is a massive issue, as is directing mob hate at Starmer and Phillips. We have seen what can result from that sort of behaviour.

Yeah there’s no way you can argue Tesla is a force for good.

‘Apple, Google, Dell, Microsoft and Tesla have been named as defendants in a lawsuit filed in Washington DC by human rights firm International Rights Advocates on behalf of 14 parents and children from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The lawsuit, which is the result of field research conducted by anti-slavery economist Siddharth Kara, accuses the companies of aiding and abetting in the death and serious injury of children who they claim were working in cobalt mines in their supply chain.’

Don't jump on bandwagons. Do the research. A report after Rotherham was prepared and the Tories did nothing about the recommendations which would have benefitted across the board. Read the comments of Maggie Oliver and Nazir Afzal and others who actually know what they are talking about. Musk is an idiot.

Rochdale grooming gangs whistleblower Maggie Oliver has claimed Sir Keir Starmer "doesn't want" an inquiry into historical abuse failures due to his previous role as director of public prosecutions.

I agree with you, and thank you for quoting that long post. I was in a care home for a year in the 1970s but had a relative who spent longer in care and the abuse was horrific. It worries me that more and more people are going into care at the moment, the numbers going up, the companies responsible for housing and care are private companies valuable to pension funds. I agree, remove the racial element and focus on why these young people had no protection. I don't mind Elon passing comment on issues, I am not sure why he is but I am guessing there is a reason, but I don't think he fully understands the UK situation re migrants and race.

I was going to put a heart reaction but did not want to send the wrong message.

I am sorry that happened to you. My grandmother was a foster carer and I know so many people working in social services and fully understand the nightmare that is so much of our child protection system.

Yes to people outside the UK!

Apart from being the world's largest news broadcast organisation with a world service broadcasting in 40 languages to 450 million listeners, that is. Apart from that, the BBC is small fry.

"jesus wept" is very offensive. And right back at you - CSIS is privately funded - who by do you think? So you have whomever it is funding that (and all the other "think tanks" you can throw at me) having influence - can you see the problem? One "influencer" says that another "influencer" has too much influence, and is bad. Time for some independent critical thought methinks.
