Should she replace it? Part 3

1000 replies

Langarg · 02/01/2025 19:09

I can’t believe we have a part 3 🤣 this has provided some lighthearted entertainment at a time where I’m feeling really let down by someone I considered a good friend. So thank you! I have posted an update on thread 2, will post it here also.

I have sent the following text message ‘Having reflected on what you have said, how the airwrap was lost/broken or otherwise is irrelevant. I considered asking you for pictures of the broken airwrap or asking to speak to your sister to ask her what happened but it will get us nowhere. All that matters is I am down a Dyson airwrap and I want a new replacement. You’ll need to either transfer me the £399 tonight to pay for this or purchase it yourself from boots and send me the email receipt this evening. You can then sort out with your sister whether she is going to contribute to the cost of it. We can then put this behind us’

I have no interest in maintaining the friendship after this for obvious reasons. I am worried that she’s seen the thread (how can she not have 🤣) and knows this fine well so will have no intention of replacing it sadly.

I don’t think I’ll ever get the truth (was there even a wedding at this rate?! 🤣) all that matters to me now is getting a replacement airwrap!!!!

First of all this ‘friend’ has made me MAD .. I’m so angry on your behalf OP and please look into small claims court or start with the letter to her to play ‘devils advocate’ as a one last chance it her coughing up what you’re rightfully owed. I mean what an absolute pig of a ‘friend’?? How does she even make/get this many friends over the years to be able to beg/ ‘borrow’ / steal from in the first place?
If it was a decade or so ago and in the USA this would be a perfect scenario and solution for you to go on Judge Judy.. Judy would sort this horror woman out!!

On a side note .. I love all things hair and have regular bleach highlights and great lengths hair extensions (hence always overdrawn !) i’ve bought so many ‘over hyped ‘ hair devices over the years to only be disappointed and at a loss monetary wise .. what is SO good about the dyson airwrap to justify the £500 original RRP price tag?
I don’t like the poker straightened hair styles (reminds me of ironed curtains crossed with cousin It from Addams family) i love the polished freshly blow dried salon look and the beach boho long loose curls look (Elle Mcpherson kinda hair ) does this Dyson achieve looks like this? Or is it about drying the hair super fast ? Has anyone that’s invested in one regretted spending all that money and it just sits away in a drawer it has it been a bit of a ‘game changer’ ? I’ve always wondered (well occasionally)over last couple of years but since reading this thread I’m ‘umming and argghing ‘ again about pros and cons and is it worth it ?

Judge Rinder !!!

Do you think it’s made up?

I'm not saying that at all; just observing the notable lack of verbosity from CF every time she's asked a perfectly reasonable question or for any explanation or resolution.

menopausalfart · 04/01/2025 23:28

How many people reading these threads bought a Dyson?

Pogue4Life · 04/01/2025 23:30

randomly reading through some other posts and this pops up. 😂 Could it be the sister

Judge Rinder !!!

She could easily not agree to go on 'Judge Rinder'.
They can't just force you to go onto a tv show 😅

PinkLeopard8 · 04/01/2025 23:33

Just read through all the threads and popping on a comment to follow for any further updates. Really hoping you get a reply OP. I'm so sorry that you have lost a long term friend over this x

That was a joke. Was mentioned upthread.

I mentioned it earlier and it was no joke at 20.38.

PlopSofa · 04/01/2025 22:20

You're right. MN changed this which is great. I'm glad to see it's no longer possible to do that. It used to be until recently. I haven't tested it in a while but they've stopped it. Good.

I presume there must be a devious way around it, if people are so minded - set up several accounts, rather than just the one that most of us have and change our username on it between different threads for whatever reasons?

Especially one that they stopped making years ago Grin

Well one thing is conclusive- the friendship is over. I had a 'friend' who borrowed my favourite necklace once and made excuse after excuse and never gave it back- granted, we were only 10 years old but regardless, it leaves a bad taste.
Yes she should have been honest and offered to replace it. Installments if couldn't manage the full amount.
Also- £500 on a hairdryer!!! Good gawd. (Sorry couldn't help myself.) But no real judgement- it's your hard earned money and I bet your hair looks better than mine!

I have the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, not the Airwrap, and the difference in my hair is amazing. I have hair a few inches below my shoulders, and it's naturally frizzy and textured - really, really difficult. Full of kinks and if I don't style it, it stands on end and I look as if I've had a fright. I've had hairdryers that are 20 pounds, 100 pounds, and 150 pounds. The Supersonic makes my hair look amazing. Before, I'd have to use another hot tool on it after blowdrying, but the Supersonic makes it look as if I've done that.

I think if you have naturally silky hair, or hair that has uniform curls when scrunched, Dyson tools might not make much difference. But for someone with really difficult hair that looks unkempt very easily, the Dyson is a game-changer.

Also, I used very cheap hairdryers for about four decades, and I didn't realise that they were burning my hair.

i completely understand your frustration , I’ve wanted an air wrap for bloody ages! But I really think this has got out of hand.

OP yes your ‘friend’ should have been truthful from the start. She has been completely out of order in how she’s managed this and the offer of buying a second hand one. However I can almost understand her hesitation post wedding and likely having a bit of a panic over money and the feeling she ‘owed’ her sister etc.

The messages could have been much more diplomatic whilst having the same effect, you’ve clearly enjoyed the response from a few mumsnetters goading you on.

You're in the minority here there's three wildly popular threads!

wineandcheeseplease · 05/01/2025 08:52

Cry little sister from the lost boys soundtrack.

Oh hI’m a funny I always sing that to myself as “hitler hairdo” or maybe it is!!

EverythingElseIsTaken · 05/01/2025 10:05

For the previous posters who are considering getting an Airwrap but worried that it won’t live up to the hype, if you buy direct from Dyson they offer a one month “no quibble guarantee”. It’s genuine. A friend of mine was bought one by her DH, used it for a couple of weeks but wasn’t impressed so they took it back to the shop, they looked at her hair and said perhaps she’d like to try a different model that was for her sort of hair (yes it matters) and she loved it. On that basis her sister got one - tried it but it just didn’t work for her at all. She took it back, explained that it didn’t do what she wanted and got a FULL refund.
(I believe some people have done similar and gone and bought cheaper from other places once they know it suits them).

Itwiznyme · 05/01/2025 10:22

@Langarg you canny leave us hanging like this woman! What’s happened since your last update

Eldermillennial2024 · 05/01/2025 10:28

OP where are you? Will you start a 4th thread? 🙃

Langarg · 05/01/2025 10:33

So sorry for the lack of updates, I checked the thread last night and seen a couple of people say I’d miraculously reappear at the end of the thread so I could start a new one 🤣 I was reluctant to reply however I don’t want to leave people who are eagerly awaiting updates hanging.

I have no update however have followed the advice re starting the small claims process. If I hear anything or if there’s any update I promise to start a new thread 🤣

All the very best @Langarg whatever happens and whether you decide to take her to the small claims court.

even if you don't start a new thread, hopefully you felt supported by a lot of people on here, just ignore the haters who said you're a troll. It's horrible not being believed, but anyway, take care.

This is excellent news @Langarg. Such a pity that it has had to come to this but if your former friend had owned up at the start, and been honest and offered to replace the air wrap, NONE of this would have been necessary. If she kicks off, please feel free to remind her of that.

Best of luck to you getting this resolved, finally.

Ohthere · 05/01/2025 10:43

Best of luck op, I’ve been reading this from the start but haven’t commented before. I’m utterly indignant on your behalf!

JessicafelloffTheKnappett · 05/01/2025 10:45

Beat of luck with the Small CC, I hope you get it sorted. I guess the friendship is over regardless.
