Should she replace it? Part 3

1000 replies

Langarg · 02/01/2025 19:09

I can’t believe we have a part 3 🤣 this has provided some lighthearted entertainment at a time where I’m feeling really let down by someone I considered a good friend. So thank you! I have posted an update on thread 2, will post it here also.

I have sent the following text message ‘Having reflected on what you have said, how the airwrap was lost/broken or otherwise is irrelevant. I considered asking you for pictures of the broken airwrap or asking to speak to your sister to ask her what happened but it will get us nowhere. All that matters is I am down a Dyson airwrap and I want a new replacement. You’ll need to either transfer me the £399 tonight to pay for this or purchase it yourself from boots and send me the email receipt this evening. You can then sort out with your sister whether she is going to contribute to the cost of it. We can then put this behind us’

I have no interest in maintaining the friendship after this for obvious reasons. I am worried that she’s seen the thread (how can she not have 🤣) and knows this fine well so will have no intention of replacing it sadly.

I don’t think I’ll ever get the truth (was there even a wedding at this rate?! 🤣) all that matters to me now is getting a replacement airwrap!!!!

i completely understand your frustration , I’ve wanted an air wrap for bloody ages! But I really think this has got out of hand.

OP yes your ‘friend’ should have been truthful from the start. She has been completely out of order in how she’s managed this and the offer of buying a second hand one. However I can almost understand her hesitation post wedding and likely having a bit of a panic over money and the feeling she ‘owed’ her sister etc.

The messages could have been much more diplomatic whilst having the same effect, you’ve clearly enjoyed the response from a few mumsnetters goading you on.

I think OP has been more than patient in her dealings with the borrower

romdowa · 02/01/2025 19:22

Doesn't matter if the pope of Rome waltzed in and pinched it. Facts are you're friend borrowed it and is responsible for what happened to it while it was in her care.

SevernWonders · 02/01/2025 19:22

Wow was not expecting this outcome OP, so sad for you to find out that your friend is such a CF

Just going to post this again so you can find it quickly ...

Make a court claim for money: What a court claim is - GOV.UK

Totally agree with going through small claims court because no way she is going to get you a new one, excuse after excuse. She will have court costs as well then
You could try speaking to the husband and telling him, as she won't of dared tell him.
If no hairdryer appears buy end of week, send a letter of intent recorded delivery to her.

Are you?….. are you the friend?? 😂😂

Only came across this today, but shamelessly and unhealthily invested.
It's like binge watching a Harlan Coben on Netflix...

👀 👀 👀 Following! Have just scrolled through the first 2 threads and cannot believe the cheeky fuckeriness of it all.

Welcome to the party 🥳🍿… OP has had the patience of a Saint so far as cheeky fuckeriness sums it up perfectly…

Ohh the CF has changed her story? I must have missed an update.

I think I'm the only person who believes the wine on the airwrap story, as a person who often sips a wine while doing my hair and makeup for a night out 😅 I don't think making up another story would be of any benefit to her at this stage, she knows OP wants a replacement. But totally agree it doesn't matter what happened it at this stage, she needs to replace it, end of! Well done on your message to her. She better sort it tonight.

But how many times have you broken your sisters friends airwrap at the same time as drinking wine (or any other hairdryer)
Also a small amount of wine would probably be ok, as they are designed for using with wet hair/hands?
Seems very unlucky

I may well have missed a few responses in the multiple threads , apologies if this is the case.

HallidayJones6779 · 02/01/2025 19:28

I’m really hoping that decency wins out here and she does the right thing and gives you the money/orders one from boots

SauvignonBlanche · 02/01/2025 19:28

Good response @Langarg 🍿

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 02/01/2025 19:29

At some point the CF needs to get herself a headscarf.
Because my money’s on her having sold the AW, or got someone else to sell it.
These grifters walk among us!

Oh shut up.

OP has been treated appallingly, friend has behaved disgustingly!

PeppyGreenFinch · 02/01/2025 19:32

With friends like these, who needs enemies.

You should not have ignored your better judgement and leant her the dryer.

BusyMum47 · 02/01/2025 19:32

@Langarg

Following avidly! 🤣

I don't think for a second that her sister broke it with spilled wine so who knows what the real story is, but your patience & civility is to be MUCH admired - I'd have lost my shit & been VERY rude & confrontational by now!!

buttonousmaximous · 02/01/2025 19:33
