Should she replace it? Part 3

1000 replies

Langarg · 02/01/2025 19:09

I can’t believe we have a part 3 🤣 this has provided some lighthearted entertainment at a time where I’m feeling really let down by someone I considered a good friend. So thank you! I have posted an update on thread 2, will post it here also.

I have sent the following text message ‘Having reflected on what you have said, how the airwrap was lost/broken or otherwise is irrelevant. I considered asking you for pictures of the broken airwrap or asking to speak to your sister to ask her what happened but it will get us nowhere. All that matters is I am down a Dyson airwrap and I want a new replacement. You’ll need to either transfer me the £399 tonight to pay for this or purchase it yourself from boots and send me the email receipt this evening. You can then sort out with your sister whether she is going to contribute to the cost of it. We can then put this behind us’

I have no interest in maintaining the friendship after this for obvious reasons. I am worried that she’s seen the thread (how can she not have 🤣) and knows this fine well so will have no intention of replacing it sadly.

I don’t think I’ll ever get the truth (was there even a wedding at this rate?! 🤣) all that matters to me now is getting a replacement airwrap!!!!

WiggyClawsThe2nd · 02/01/2025 19:34

Would love to have seen her face when she discovered your thread! 🤣

ohyesido · 02/01/2025 19:34

I reckon she thought she could get away with keeping them

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 02/01/2025 19:35

Way too invested!

BettyBardMacDonald · 02/01/2025 19:36

Great message!

kkloo · 02/01/2025 19:36

She was cheeky but I personally wouldn't throw away a friendship over this, or even I didn't want to be friends anymore I wouldn't make this all the worse by posting everything on MN, you're coming across as very childish and petty here all for the sake of getting a little dopamine boost from some randoms on MN that you don't even know.

Workhardcryharder · 02/01/2025 19:36

Fully invested

Namechange32123 · 02/01/2025 19:36

I wonder if her and her sister have just decided to keep it and hoped you would either accept getting a second hand one or just let it go.

What ever has happened it’s a shitty thing to do and hopefully she does the right thing and replaces it.

i completely understand your frustration , I’ve wanted an air wrap for bloody ages! But I really think this has got out of hand.

OP yes your ‘friend’ should have been truthful from the start. She has been completely out of order in how she’s managed this and the offer of buying a second hand one. However I can almost understand her hesitation post wedding and likely having a bit of a panic over money and the feeling she ‘owed’ her sister etc.

The messages could have been much more diplomatic whilst having the same effect, you’ve clearly enjoyed the response from a few mumsnetters goading you on.

Lies, followed by more lies, followed by implausible bullshit, and no doubt more lies to come.

This disgraceful CF doesn't deserve an ounce of sympathy or diplomacy. And the OP's messages have been polite, restrained and absolutely fine.

As you possibly already know Grin

How on earth is OP coming across as childish and petty? What do you suggest she should do, smile sweetly and simply gift her expensive possession to this CF?

Apropos of nothing, obv, but how's your hair looking this evening? Grin

Great. You dont need to get into the he said she said who did what. As you say just replace it. The boundaries here confound me, lending a £500 bit of kit put that wasnt yours and borrowed!!

OP how is your hair doing? You must be so f off without your bit of kit

CB2611 · 02/01/2025 19:39

Eagerly awaiting her response..... 👀🤣

I find it odd that people are so careless of others possessions.

I would always take more care.

By posting every single update on MN, that's what is childish and petty.

If she was just sending those messages to her friend then that wouldn't be childish and petty, but she's acting like she's being mature and reasonable to her friend and then blasting her all over MN and saying everything her friend said. That's what's childish and petty.

Memyselfmilly · 02/01/2025 19:24

Are you?….. are you the friend?? 😂😂

Exactly

CoverMySoul · 02/01/2025 19:41

The CF's found the latest thread then Grin

MeridianB · 02/01/2025 19:41

Good text @Langarg

I don’t believe a single thing she says. Hope you get the cash very soon!

DanceMumTaxi · 02/01/2025 19:41

She really is the ultimate CF. Hope you manage to get a new airwrap.

Hi

Very interesting first post

Tell us, have you known the OP long? Do you feel a bit silly having let this happen to the airwrap

PoorUncleBarry · 02/01/2025 19:42

Make sure the replacement is legit op. You don't want a £8.72 HairRapper from Temu.

Agree. The whole thing is a nasty 'pile on'. The friend was probably mortified and didnt know what to do, panicked and got caught but its hardly a hanging offence....the op will get her money back. I would never have thought that so many people would become so invested in something so trivial in the grand scheme of things. Its ridiculous.

I think I'm the only person who believes the wine on the airwrap story, as a person who often sips a wine while doing my hair and makeup for a night out 😅 I don't think making up another story would be of any benefit to her at this stage, she knows OP wants a replacement. But totally agree it doesn't matter what happened it at this stage, she needs to replace it, end of! Well done on your message to her. She better sort it tonight.

No, I’m inclined to believe it too. Large glass of wine on the wrong part seems like a totally plausible accident to me (it’s meant to work with wet hair, not be submerged in a sink or a basin of water), as is the total blind panic about replacing it.

Always one 🙄 … OP has been incredibly patient, has been let down and repeatedly lied to. She has none the less tried to see the light side of what is actually a really lousy situation and fair play to her. It’s not her fault.
