Gov refuses home office investigation into historic child sex abuse in Oldham

Perzival · 01/01/2025 23:45

I've just read on x that Jess Phillips has formally declined Oldham council's request for the HO to investigate the grooming gangs in Oldham. Why on Earth would they do this? Apparently JP says it should be a local investigation? Clearly that is a conflict of interests and if the council are asking for help they should?

The only link I can find other than x is GB news (apologies).

Labour REJECTS Oldham's call for Government inquiry into grooming gangs scandal

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips has said Oldham should 'take its own approach' instead

He's only a.GB investigative journalist because they were the only news network that would.touch it.
Loving the use of Right Wing as a slur you were just missing thug for a full house. The language you have used really nicely illustrated the point I made as to why people were scared.to stand up.

I really wish people would study history and what happens when cultures mix.

I'm really happy they did to be clear and I don't think right wing is a slur. Just to counter the inevitable complaints.

For anyone who wants context about why this kicked off, it's not really anything to do with Oldham and Jess Phillips.

Right-wing twitter was talking about this for the last few days in the context of a wider discussion on whether multiculturalism has failed or succeeded, and Elon Musk heard about it and massively boosted some local UK journalists.

Look up Sam Bidwell, Charlie Peters and Sam Ashworth-Hayes.

Yes they're all right wing because that's the group of journalists who were talking about it and boosted it. Charlie Peters is a GB news investigative reporter who did a doco on this.

so what?

Thank you, we both know people will jump on the gbnews and right wing as a way of diluting it. Surprised we haven't had the it didn't happen stuff yet

No. Court documents were released for the first time with some truly horrific details that had not been made public before.

Quit treating this as some kind of culture war sparring point. These are real girls whose lives have been devastated by evil men and disgraceful handling by the authorities.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 02/01/2025 11:42

The TV show needs to be aired again I think it was called "three girls". A bit like the post officer scandal it only presented the full horror when it was on TV dramatised.

Yes, it was called Three Girls. It was made in 2012 and you can witch it on BBC iplayer. It's a really hard watch.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 02/01/2025 11:54

Labour mp Anne cryer spoke of concerns about Asian men hanging around outside school and she was called racist by members of her own party and had to install a panic alarm. 2003

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 02/01/2025 11:55

@Upstartled it needs to go live TV again

porridgecake · 02/01/2025 11:57

I can't remember which town (there were so many) but there was a school nurse who was sacked and accused of racism for raising the alarm.

User37482 · 02/01/2025 11:58

The problem is it appears to be an ongoing issue, some survivors have complained that it is still happening, despite all the local enquiries. We actually need completely external parties to look at exactly what happened. Charlie Peters on his twitter thread suggests that 1 in 73 muslim pakistani men in rotherham have a child rape conviction. Theres is something so utterly and fundamentally wrong here. I really don’t think given how shockingly prevalent this is (50 towns) that we have found all the offenders or that it’s an isolated issue.

Everything here feels systemic, systemic cultural issues, systemic institutional failures

Used to hang around outside my school too. Fucking perverts.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 02/01/2025 12:00

Just reading Charlie Peters on x, I've seen 3 girls, I voted Labour at the time.. It seems it was squashed because it was the right wings dream and many counsellors were from the same community hence able to use their power to head off concerns.
. Which is why a separate inquiry needs to happen

She was a brave woman and the labour party treated her appallingly.
Look at how Rosie Duffield has been treated in recent times. Nothing changes.

porridgecake · 02/01/2025 12:04

She IS a brave woman. I worded that badly.

https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/24810125.shouting-female-councillor-described-appalling/

This was at bradford council. A councillor trying to talk about violence against women and girls was told to shut her mouth for touching on grooming gangs and accused of singling out a community, she is of pakistani heritage herself. They actually pulled the race card on her (I’m not white myself before anyone comes at me for saying that, these men used race as a shield, they can go fuck themselves on behalf of all the rest of us non rapey brown people) This is the same town where 1 in 73 pakistani men has a conviction for rape.

Thats why you need as much distance from this for a proper and fulsome enquiry. You literally cannot trust local anyone here. So I imagine getting the actual truth in Oldham will be just as challenging.

Shouting at female councillor during discussion on violence against women 'appalling'

COUNCILLORS have raised concerns after a female Colleague was shouted at and heckled during a discussion on violence against women in a Council…

Labour are a fucking disgrace with this and so is anyone else on the left who are defending this. I’m ashamed for people who supposably vote like me.

Christ, I never thought I’d agree with Farage but his comment in that article is on the money.

Am I being dense? I can't see a quote from Farage there.

Totallymessed · 02/01/2025 12:20

This country has a serious problem if people are willing to ignore the mass rape of children because of their personal political leanings. This should not be a left/ right issue, and anyone treating it as if it is should be ashamed.

"Responding to Mrs Badenoch, Nigel Farage, the Reform leader, said: “Talk is cheap. The Conservatives had 14 years in government to launch an inquiry. The establishment has failed the victims of grooming gangs on every level.”

Mrs Badenoch also shared her view on the platform on Thursday and said: “The time is long overdue for a full national inquiry into the rape gangs scandal.

“Trials have taken place all over the country in recent years but no one in authority has joined the dots. 2025 must be the year that the victims start to get justice.”

The page then reads, for clarity.

In further posts, Mr Musk accused Ms Phillips of a “disgraceful” decision and suggested she had rejected an inquiry in order to shield Sir Keir from blame.
He continued: “In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval for the police to charge suspects.
“Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008–2013.
“Who is the boss of Jess Phillips right now? Keir Stamer [sic]. The real reason she’s refusing to investigate the rape gangs is that it would obviously lead to the blaming of Keir Starmer [head of the CPS at the time].”

I know. I said I (surreally) agree with Farage which is why I quoted that. You do understand how debate works, don’t you?
