Gov refuses home office investigation into historic child sex abuse in Oldham

Perzival · 01/01/2025 23:45

I've just read on x that Jess Phillips has formally declined Oldham council's request for the HO to investigate the grooming gangs in Oldham. Why on Earth would they do this? Apparently JP says it should be a local investigation? Clearly that is a conflict of interests and if the council are asking for help they should?

The only link I can find other than x is GB news (apologies).

Labour REJECTS Oldham's call for Government inquiry into grooming gangs scandal

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips has said Oldham should 'take its own approach' instead

@porridgecake

TRIGGER WARNING

They may work together and be in close knit communities but how do you suddenly find yourself gang raping an 11 year old with your cousin, work colleague and/or your brother?

How does it progress from chatting at work to deciding to rape an 11 year old at the same time as your three mates/relatives? Is the abuse of white girls being discussed openly? What about the men they asked who didn’t fancy watching their colleague gang rape a child? Why didn’t they speak out? Or call the police?

@D23456789 That leads to another question. Why don’t the ‘left wing’ press care about children being raped? Why are they happy for it to be buried. I too am glad GB have reported it.

They’d rather working class white girls be raped and tortured than be accused of racism for simply doing their job.

I see the Labour voters no matter what are out in force. Homophobic jokes, justifying the cover up of some of the biggest rapes and abuses of young girls this country has ever seen. Then people will moan and bleat at how on earth did reform get in?

I voted Labour and I’m certainly not backing anyone over this except the victims and those who want to fix this unconscionable situation, regardless of their political affiliation. To be honest I feel politically homeless and I’m sure I’m not alone. Labour are playing politics and betraying women and girls. It’s sickening. And let’s be honest here, it’s because they view these girls as trashy scum or so insignificant that they aren’t worth losing votes over and having to deal with the unrest that this would bring. And not just Labour but everyone involved who are turning a blind eye or actively involved in covering it up. Not to mention the men. They know everyone is too afraid of being accused of being racist so they can do whatever they want and get away with it. Who cares right, it’s just girls being raped and tortured en masse.

As someone who was generally aware of the scandal and cases, some of the details coming out have sickened me. It is almost unimaginable depravity.
it is astounding, nay disgusting there isn’t to be a wider investigation into the events and those that sought to cover them up. Agree with a pp who said it is frankly sinister.
(Really horrific written details contained in the sensitive image).

I wonder what Shariah law would deem an appropriate punishment for these crimes.

Me too @GiveMeSpanakopita - in my circle there were people shaming others for reading right wing papers; they thought that only the likes of the BBC and Guardian were reliable papers. Well I can't recall the specific event that caused me to turn my back on that but I now read as widely as possible. I actually feel freeer for doing so.

Happens on here all the time. Posters demand a link and then unless it is from The Guardian they dismiss it as right wing propaganda and lies.
They live in an echo chamber.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/01/2025 10:59

If Oldham are left to their own investigation there will always be cries of it being not thorough enough. Surely an independent inquiry would be better?

Rightly or wrongly the focus on "community sensitivities" render it unlikely that the more difficult questions will ever be asked; were it not so the atrocities may never have been allowed to happen in the first place, so I'm not convinced the version of government doing any investigating would make any difference

Quite. I voted Labour my whole life - not a Tory despite being the typical, high earning voter. I voted Lib Dem as I feel politically homeless. Reform were 2nd in the constituencies around me, the opposition to Lib Dem. I feel the the political landscape will change hugely next election and people are sleepwalking into it.

Genuinely sickened by all of the actions of our new government. You are quite right, these girls are being treated as worthless and someone needs to stand up for them.

Antigrooming · 02/01/2025 11:01

@SquirrelSoShiny I don’t think it’s regarded as a sin if it’s against infidels. Hence the lack of any denunciation by anyone in the Muslim community. The silence is defeaning.

OneAmberFinch · 02/01/2025 11:03

Honestly, she (actually Starmer really, this is SO much bigger than her) should have announced that the government will be taking specific actions related to the previous reviews, not that they'll let a random council investigate themselves.

"By the way, grooming gang leaders were allowed to stay in the UK when it was decided that deporting them would breach their human rights."

In 2022 these two finally lost an appeal to be deported but as of 2024 they were apparently still in the country. This is just the random case linked in the above tweet, I'm sure there are more. Maybe Labour could start there...

Yeah Reform are doing well in my home town in South Wales, never thought I'd see it but the amount they're spending and campaigning here I honestly think it could tip Reform from Labour in the next GE - it's NEVER not returned Labour MPs since the Labour Party was founded so it'll be huge if it happens.

Those young white girls are not considered to be human beings by those men. They are fair game and generally despised.

I agree with you both. Every day I watch Labour pushing us closer to having a hateful far right government. Their utterly stupid inability to understand human psychology will be our downfall. They think it's all about fixing the economy but it's not. Something rotten has fundamentally changed in our society. Hiding it from mainstream news doesn't work anymore, it just drives people online where nothing is fact checked.

We've always had disgusting predatory men protected by the establishment but now they just look different from the toffs and the media darlings of yore. Children are being sacrificed on an altar of political correctness, rather than genteel privilege.

Totallymessed · 02/01/2025 11:14

Simonjt · 02/01/2025 08:39

Yep. But unfortunately a lot of people prefer drama to the actual process required.

So people who want a proper enquiry and for the issues to be actually addressed by the government, rather than just continuing the gutless decades of ignoring them are just interested in "drama"? Aren't you a delight. I guess the wellbeing of girls isn't a priority for you?

That's because the nature of the Establishment has changed imho. It's (just) not right wing and aristocratic toffs anymore. It's the highly privileged elite liberals who went to the russell group unis in the 1980s and 1990s and espouse trend progressive/'left wing' luxury beliefs.

It's a real pity that this thread was posted without the full context or even the letter from Oldham to the Minister. The GB News report looks like a very typical knee-jerk right-wing smear attempt.

Then please do post this letter and any other context you feel is missing here...

OneAmberFinch · 02/01/2025 11:32

For anyone who wants context about why this kicked off, it's not really anything to do with Oldham and Jess Phillips.

Right-wing twitter was talking about this for the last few days in the context of a wider discussion on whether multiculturalism has failed or succeeded, and Elon Musk heard about it and massively boosted some local UK journalists.

Look up Sam Bidwell, Charlie Peters and Sam Ashworth-Hayes.

Yes they're all right wing because that's the group of journalists who were talking about it and boosted it. Charlie Peters is a GB news investigative reporter who did a doco on this.

I don't think it is going to continue to be brushed under the carpet, despite the best efforts of politicians and a good part of the media for decades. And no-one one who has read any of the court documents is ever going to forget the details.

I personally think it's a good thing for the public to be aware of the truly horrific things done to young girls and ignored for being inconvenient. You may disagree, for whatever reason.

This post looks like a very typical left wing smear attempt.

So we have arrived at an impasse.

You could of course just post all the missing stuff that has been left out! If you were really concerned about the actual girls that have been raped and brutalised of course.

It's 2025 and the Overton Window's moved a lot, we're not scared off talking about important issues by being called 'right wing' anymore.

Loving the use of Right Wing as a slur you were just missing thug for a full house. The language you have used really nicely illustrated the point I made as to why people were scared.to stand up.

I really wish people would study history and what happens when cultures mix.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 02/01/2025 11:42

The TV show needs to be aired again I think it was called "three girls". A bit like the post officer scandal it only presented the full horror when it was on TV dramatised.
