Gov refuses home office investigation into historic child sex abuse in Oldham

Perzival · 01/01/2025 23:45

I've just read on x that Jess Phillips has formally declined Oldham council's request for the HO to investigate the grooming gangs in Oldham. Why on Earth would they do this? Apparently JP says it should be a local investigation? Clearly that is a conflict of interests and if the council are asking for help they should?

The only link I can find other than x is GB news (apologies).

Labour REJECTS Oldham's call for Government inquiry into grooming gangs scandal

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips has said Oldham should 'take its own approach' instead

These were not just local " grooming gangs" or "rape gangs".
This was/ is highly organised, national grooming, trafficking, torture, rape, murder of underage girls by a very specific group of men, aided and abetted by police, local authorities, mps and community leaders from the same specific group. The cover up and silencing of teachers, social workers, parents including the sacking and arrest of whistle blowers was apparantly necessary because of cultural and community sensitivities.
A local investigation, the findings of which will not be acted on, is just not going to be enough.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 02/01/2025 22:54

Completely agree. A local investigation is nowhere near enough at this stage. It’s damn well everywhere. Hideous. Fucking step up government.

Sunworshiper · 02/01/2025 22:58

rumblegrumble · 02/01/2025 22:47

I assume Sunworshiper was referring to the claim that (according to X) "1 in 73 Muslim men who live in Rotherham have been prosecuted for grooming gang-related crimes in the past two decades."

No idea if it's true, nothing came up when I googled...

But a local investigation is what Oldham CC asked for, and Jess Philips rejected (to GB News' condemnation).

They council want an inquiry within the borough, and want the government to lead it. The government (current and previous) have said that any inquiry in the borough should be led by the council.

Whether there needs to be a national inquiry is a separate question - I'm certainly not against one but I do feel as though the most immediate priority is actually implementing the recommendations of the previous inquiries.

Ah so you agree with Phillips and the previous government who both refused to instigate a second LOCAL inquiry in Oldham in less than two years and told them to set up an independent inquiry themselves

The evidence is all there. Another local inquiry is probably just going to lead to more cover up/ minimising/ no action. Who is going to run it? The same people who have previously been complicit in the organised crime? Back in the 80s there was a scandal about freemasons in the police and judiciary covering up crimes perpetrated by fellow freemasons. I don't know how we get round this issue.

I will never not be shocked by the evil acts done by these men and the weak apologists that enabled them.

I believe Oldham council is consulting with the people who set up the independent Rotherham inquiry.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 02/01/2025 23:39

I think culture/ethnicity is a double whammy factor here. Firstly that these men are from communities that value women and girls less, and have particular contempt for non-Muslim girls, and secondly because the fear of accusations of racism allowed them to rape and abuse with impunity.

Do you mean that of the total convictions of Pakistani men pertaining to the grooming gangs, that 1 in 8 were in Oldham?

Sunworshiper · Today 21:25
As was just discussed on GB-News just now these gang rapists were made up of 1 in 8 of the men from the Pakistani Community in the Oldham area.

No, you claimed "these gang rapists were made up of 1 in 8 of the men from the Pakistani Community in the Oldham area" and then changed it to 1 in 73. Rather a different number, and quite a mistake to make... bit odd that you found it so funny, I guess that must be the drink?

The claim on X - and the quote I provided after you refused to offer any sort of reference for your statement - stated 1 in 73 Muslim men in Rotherham.

These are two very different statements - did you mean 1 in 73 Muslim men, or 1 in 73 Pakistani men? Were they from Oldham, or were they from Rotherham? Or was it 1 in 8 Pakistani men from Oldham, and 1 in 73 Muslim men from Rotherham? You still haven't clarified, just sent silly emojis.

I assume you're very young and don't understand the magnitude of this topic; this is an extremely serious conversation about an extremely serious matter and your drunken burbling and unevidenced accusations are not just unhelpful but extremely offensive. It's probably best you just go back to your drink and call it a night.

@Alexandra2001 and her party shouted her down and closed her down as *racist"

I think you may be be confusing Labour and the Tory party who were in the mid 2010s in Government, they ignored Sarah Champion, the Labour MP for Rotherham.

What her party did or didn't do and yes they did try to shut her up, is not important, the Govt had the power and she was blanked by them, the Cons too tied up with Brexit and infighting.

Penguinmouse · 03/01/2025 07:31

There is an existing report into what happened (the Jay report, published two years ago) and the Tories did not implement a single recommendation. We don’t need another enquiry, we need implementation of the recommendations.

Yes we do not need another 2 or 3 year report, taking us into GE territory and then ignored.

Lets get on with investigations and trials and get these men behind bars, we know the issues/the fixes and its disgraceful that people who want to kick the Govt will use CSA to do this.

millymollymoomoo · 03/01/2025 07:51

It’s a cover up pure and simple because kier was head of cps during this time and also they don’t want to upset their Muslim voters

There 💯 should be a public inquiry and everyone exposed

Thats simply incorrect as well you know.

The scandal broke in the 1990's, Starmer was head of CPS in 2008 until 2013, he set up the unit that bought about the first criminal convictions.

Any "cover up" has occurred over the last 11 years... why wasn't the extensive nationwide inquiry acted upon by Sunak?

Given the news clip up thread, of a young woman who had the police (who have brought none of her attackers to justice) hunt her down and accost her in her home for having the temerity to talk about her own abuse on TV, I'd say you'd be wise not to hold your breath.

We are looking at 40 years, so cons. Labour. Coalition cons Labour have been in power.
Stop making this, baaad Tory supporters being mean racist right wing thugs and look at the fact that the immigration policy of all of these governments allowed this to happen and then protected the perpetrators and still protect the perpetrators.
The data used was compromised deep dives on the data now show a different picture to what was originally released.
It was and is a systematic attack/abuse of working class CHILDREN that was allowed to happen and supported because of the policy of not offending the perpetrators.
What should be making you angry is the fact its still happening, more widespread because there aren't any consequences to white, Sikh and Hindu girls across England.

I think it’s inconvenient for Conservatives and Labour. And both look terrible. But it’s gone global now so no doubt Politicians are scrabbling around (or trying to shut down X). I have read so much in the last day and I’m also very bored of Far Right being used as an excuse. It’s blatantly been used to shut down conversation. Gang rape is wrong and there is no excuse not to investigate or expose it.

Ex Labour MP for Rochdale and party chairman was told not to raise it as he would lose votes. I believe he was interviewed on GB news too yesterday.

Starmer appointed Beck as the MP for Rotherham in 22 I believe.

From the article below - Beck resigned as a cabinet member of Rotherham Council following a damning report on the authority.
It was accused of ignoring the horrific sexual exploitation of more than 1,400 girls between 1997 and 2013.
Elizabeth - not her real name - told The Sun: “It’s horrendous that this man is going to be standing as an MP.
“Girls like me see it as a complete betrayal. Years after being abused we’re still having to live with this day in, day out.

Its an inconvenience to both Conservatives and Labour. But is it still going on like people are claiming?

I still want to know how these men get to find out their cousin/brother/colleague/father also wants to gang rape an 11 year old white girl. How does it go from ‘colleague/brother pass me that file/the salt’ to ‘let’s insert our penises into the same child at the same time’. This isn’t a one off couple of weirdos who found each other accidentally it’s THOUSANDS of men. And why aren’t they getting their white or Indian or Chinese colleagues/neighbours involved with gang rape?

Also apparently wives and children of the rapists attended court and shouted abuse at the victims. If this did happen were they arrested for contempt of court? These girls were so very brave to go to court and no one should be intimidating them.

Money talks so I think the victims should sue as these women did. They discussed deporting these men - I don’t think they were deported (but I’d happily be corrected on this if anyone knows).

Because without one things get brushed under the carpet and there are no consequences for those who colluded in the cover-up and failed these girls.

"Communities" need to understand that a blind eye isn't going to be turned anymore, and action by government will help the feelings of there being a two tier system and helplessness that leads to the actions we saw last summer.
