To wish that 'hubby' was banned on MN?

I see more and more posters are referring to their husbands as "hubby". I can't stand the abbreviation and wish it would disappear.🫥

OP posts:
Marchweshall · 31/12/2024 10:20

It’s no worse than DH.

theduchessofspork · 31/12/2024 10:24

Yes. It is dire.

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/12/2024 10:25

I mean... yeah it's a bit twee but no worse than a million other MN acronyms and phrases. People also seem to complain a lot about hollibobs. It's almost a daily occurrence that people complain about these two words.

I have plenty of personal pet hates on here, of which the worst is people banging on ad nauseam about how they are an "introvert" when they're actually a grumpy, misanthropic arsehole who doesn't like people but apparently also wants their attention.

But it's a free country and a free board and you can't ban everyone.

ShortyShorts · 31/12/2024 10:26

It's not a word I use but I couldn't care less if others do.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 31/12/2024 10:27

It really bugs me, I'm not sure why 😂

VoodooRajin · 31/12/2024 10:27

Is mummy ok?

nellythe · 31/12/2024 10:27

I agree. It should be ‘hubster’.

TangerineClementine · 31/12/2024 10:28

Freedom of speech OP! It's a silly word but you can't go around banning things for no good reason.

InformEducateEntertain · 31/12/2024 10:28

It's fellah that does my head in.
Not even sure how you spell it as a red mist appears whenever I see it.

Lentilweaver · 31/12/2024 10:29

I really hate the acronyms but use them anyway to save time and typing!

DonnaBanana · 31/12/2024 10:29

VoodooRajin · 31/12/2024 10:27

Is mummy ok?

That’s a weird thing to call your husband though.

But no, not if you’re over 12 years old. Mummy is a child’s word.

Jolietta · 31/12/2024 10:29

Maybe because it sounds like 'tubby', I always imagine the 'hubby' to be a short round fellow with a ruddy face.

A mental image I would prefer not to envisage.

Ah I love an irrational word banning thread 😂
Can I please add anyone who uses the phrase '___ here' to indicate that they have some kind of specialist knowledge about your post. It's usually someone who is only vaguely linked to the topic area or the reply misses the point of your post entirely.

E.g., Hi everyone, I'd love to buy my mum a box of chocolates for her birthday, what's everyone's favourite luxury box?

Reply: 'Nutritionist here, you shouldn't buy anyone a gift with that much sugar'

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/12/2024 10:32

It’s certainly very twee and irritating but where do you draw the line? There is so much twee on Mumsnet

nellythe · 31/12/2024 10:34

For one dark second, I thought you meant somebody had called their hubby a ‘boob monster’ 😷

Mummy is just a shortened version of a word as brolly, welly and hubby. Not sure why the latter causes so much consternation.

BarbaraHoward · 31/12/2024 10:34

Given some of the awful terms that aren't banned I don't think you stand a chance re hubby. Grin

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 31/12/2024 10:35

Yes and 'naice'.

Kinneddar · 31/12/2024 10:35

I'd ban all the 'D' prefixes ESPECIALLY DDog & DCat. I mean why???

I think hubby is less annoying than DH especially when DH is far from D & actually being a total prick

LadyKenya · 31/12/2024 10:37

Well I can't tolerate seeing "Picky bits", and "Pack up" on here. Can those words be banned as well?

DorothyStorm · 31/12/2024 10:38

TangerineClementine · 31/12/2024 10:28

Freedom of speech OP! It's a silly word but you can't go around banning things for no good reason.

Of course we can!

I would give a 7 day suspension to people who quote the original poster’s original post. Instant suspension.

‘man here’ would get an instant ban. Because of what it silently says. ‘Im a man so i know what im talking about. Listen to my wise words! Silly ladies step aside for the penis bearer. Have you tried smiling more? He has a big job, after all. Your profession is clearly a part-time hobby.’

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/12/2024 10:38

@Zae134

Ill take that a raise you the phrase: “feminism is about choice”. Almost always uttered as an OP rushes to embrace a lifestyle that’s deeply regressive. It makes me rage, this phrase.

Choice is an output of feminism. It isn’t its sole purpose. The Pankhursts didn’t get killed so you can spend your life reenacting Laura Ingalls Wilder, barefoot and pregnant. Yes you can do that if it’s what you want but it’s got Jack all to do with feminism.

KnopkaPixie · 31/12/2024 10:40

I think I've managed to work out most of the acronyms/abreviations now but CF still eludes me. I understand that it means, 'Disagreeable person' but in more literal terms? Is it the F word and the C word in some mixed up formulation?

DorothyStorm · 31/12/2024 10:40

Kinneddar · 31/12/2024 10:35

Hey! Too far! Every post with DDog talks about a darling dog! Lots of DH posts would be more accurately defined as DickHead. In fact, reading many posts on here I assume that is what DH does indeed stand for.
