To wish that 'hubby' was banned on MN?

I see more and more posters are referring to their husbands as "hubby". I can't stand the abbreviation and wish it would disappear.🫥

I mean... yeah it's a bit twee but no worse than a million other MN acronyms and phrases. People also seem to complain a lot about hollibobs. It's almost a daily occurrence that people complain about these two words.

I have plenty of personal pet hates on here, of which the worst is people banging on ad nauseam about how they are an "introvert" when they're actually a grumpy, misanthropic arsehole who doesn't like people but apparently also wants their attention.

But it's a free country and a free board and you can't ban everyone.

Thank you for this, I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I hate, or at least am uncomfortable with self declared ‘introverts’. It’s the fact they have to announce it with insulting memes and tell everyone who will listen how they hate being paid attention to by shouting it from social media rooftops.

I call myself shy or a loner, since childhood I’m incredibly happy with my own company but of course I live on a planet I have to share, socialising tires me, but I’m not a dick about it.

Anyway just one last thing, obviously I’m not speaking on behalf off the poster I’m quoting, just definitely agreeing with their description of an introvert.

To be honest men being on here full stop really irritates me. Is there nothing that women can have without it being invaded by men.

I posted saying this ‘more gently’ once and got absolutely chewed to pieces by lots of women in true MN savage fashion 😳

I'm biased against this word, as I know one person who calls her husband "hubby" in a rather self-satisfied, what-a-tremendous-couple-we-are sort of way, and her "hubby" is a complete and utter wankshaft.

My husband has me on his mobile phone contacts as "Arch Nemesis", which is rude, but fair 😂

Fascinating to see all the policing of language and posting on a site you can just scroll past anything you don't like.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/12/2024 12:28

Dim, dratted, dopey, dastardly, devilish, dickhead - any more?

My major irritant on MN (and another forum that shall be nameless) is posters who spell very well known/famous names wrongly, often over and over. E.g.:

Kier
Judy (Dench)
Weatherspoons
Lurpack
🤬!

The one I always notice is people who can't spell CenterParcs! Or Clarks shoes.

VacuumPacked · 31/12/2024 12:38

@MostHighlyFlavoredGravy thank you for this linguistic lesson, wingman !

You've never heard the word vile? 😳

I obviously know the word, I'm just saying that nobody in my social group or family actually says it out loud. So it's a bit weird that everyone here seems to love the term 😅

greyskyoverthere · 31/12/2024 12:40

I wish the word ' ick' was banned. Its awful hearing grown women using such a child-like word.

It's just light-hearted venting about silly petty things that annoying people. No one us actually trying to police language ffs...

I agree. It should be ‘hubster’.

Hubbabubba?

I think I've managed to work out most of the acronyms/abreviations now but CF still eludes me. I understand that it means, 'Disagreeable person' but in more literal terms? Is it the F word and the C word in some mixed up formulation?

I think fucker cheeky might not sound right.

fuckingidiotseverywhere · 31/12/2024 12:43

See I disagree re the meaning behind the use of the word "grab", eg "I'll just grab a coffee on my way". When I use that expression, it's not to convey how busy and self-important I am, my aim is to communicate to the other person that I'm trying to be as quick as possible so that I don't leave them waiting too long. So it's the opposite of self-importance in that sense- it's conveying consideration of the other person, ie. "I'll be there as quick as I can so I'm not wasting your time". Just another way of looking at it.

SerafinasGoose · 31/12/2024 12:43

This site has more to concern it than the silly, fluffy language used by some of its members. I'd far rather the incels and fetishists who infest the place were banned - together with their pathetic supporters.

No, women who expect particular standards (i.e. ones that are not on the floor) and don't tolerate abuse because 'he might be depressed' are not 'man-haters'.

Ha! This is pretty much how I feel. I'd add that I don't like the superior edge to all the complaints about words people use (unless, obviously, they are actually damaging, discriminatory words). There's a subtext of 'whereas I am bright, educated and not like the masses and would never talk like that' to many of them.

It's appalling: hypocritical and performative nonsense. They want both to be "left alone" and in the same breath to be celebrated for the quirky uniqueness of, er, preferring a night in with a cup of hot chocolate or not having any friends. While insulting the rest of us by shouting to the world and his wife that they "hate people!" and making nasty digs at "extroverts" (ie people who can cope socially without having the vapours).

Lots of people are introverts. Most of us manage to get through life without insulting 50% of the human species. Fuck off to the far end of fuck off and fuck off some more.

Newbutoldfather · 31/12/2024 12:45

‘We are pregnant’ ….Really?!

Baby Daddy

Baby Shower (horrible thing and totally American)

POAS (maybe not a quite as bad).

But I recognise that we all grew up in different places and times, so I tolerate them….

Toucanfusingforme · 31/12/2024 12:27

“We’re going to have a cheeky Chinese/Italian/etc”.
Infuriates me irrationally. Why is it cheeky? Does it insult you as you’re about to eat it?!

Yes! I don't get the ' cheeky' thing either!

Is it a modern way of saying ' naughty' like those adverts in the 70s for cream cakes with those two fat blokes dressed as women saying ' Naughty but nice'?

There is nothing naughty or cheeky about food. Its just food. Either eat it or don't.

weaselpatrol · 31/12/2024 12:46

DTD over on the pregnancy/conception boards is the absolute worst. Also “boob the baby” and “baby needs boobing”

Ohshutupsimonyoutwat · 31/12/2024 12:21

Naice boils my piss every time I see it, such twattery.

Hubby - can't get too worked up sometimes can be used tongue in cheek.

I love 'boils my piss', though. I appreciate that this point is controversial.

I wish they would also ban quoting the first OP. Drives me mad or incandescent with rage when it’s on the first page.

Especially if it’s a really long opening post, so you scroll and scroll and scroll and all the reply says is “I agree” 😡

VacuumPacked · 31/12/2024 12:41

On the other hand, I do like a good 'huzzah!' and that word should be used far more! 😁

The worst thing people do on Mumsnet is “DD” “DS” especially when sometimes they’re referring to their sister and sometimes their son. Or sometimes their daughter or sometimes their dad, and you just have to figure out what the hell they’re talking about!

I agree, I had DF down as father, however the OP was talking about her fiancé, I got a little bit freaked out before I got everything organised and back on track in my mind 😂
