To wish that 'hubby' was banned on MN?

I see more and more posters are referring to their husbands as "hubby". I can't stand the abbreviation and wish it would disappear.🫥

OP posts:

I think I've managed to work out most of the acronyms/abreviations now but CF still eludes me. I understand that it means, 'Disagreeable person' but in more literal terms? Is it the F word and the C word in some mixed up formulation?

Cheeky Fucker! 😂😅

MimiSunshine · 31/12/2024 10:40

I have a friend who regularly uses Hubby IRL. It provokes a hugely unreasonable negative reaction in me that I struggle to contain.

its definitely a me problem but the ick makes me want to retch

Zae134 · 31/12/2024 10:42

@Thepeopleversuswork side note- have you seen Jayde Adam's Serious Black Jumper? Whether people like her as a comedian or not, she does a great discussion about waves of feminism and whether Beyonce is really a feminist. It's fab (I teach social sciences so this whole topic is very much my jam!)

Zae134 · 31/12/2024 10:31

Ah I love an irrational word banning thread 😂
Can I please add anyone who uses the phrase '___ here' to indicate that they have some kind of specialist knowledge about your post. It's usually someone who is only vaguely linked to the topic area or the reply misses the point of your post entirely.

E.g., Hi everyone, I'd love to buy my mum a box of chocolates for her birthday, what's everyone's favourite luxury box?

Reply: 'Nutritionist here, you shouldn't buy anyone a gift with that much sugar'

OMG and even worse than that is when someone else advises something and the OP says huffily "Well I'd rather listen to the nutritionist thanks!"

No, what you mean is you'd rather listen to the person you don't know from Adam, claiming to be a nutritionist! 🤦‍♀️

Henry8thHoover · 31/12/2024 10:44

It could be worse: hubs or hubster.
I backspace out of any thread with hubby or the other two in the OP, then hide it.

YourGladSquid · 31/12/2024 10:48

Hubby and D-something should be banned.

Why is it even necessary

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/12/2024 10:49

@Zae134

I haven’t but thank you!

Kinneddar · 31/12/2024 10:35

I'd ban all the 'D' prefixes ESPECIALLY DDog & DCat. I mean why???

I think hubby is less annoying than DH especially when DH is far from D & actually being a total prick

DDog and DCat are my favourites, I think keep those and ban all the others.

The D in DH I always imagine stands for something else...

fairydustt · 31/12/2024 10:53

The worst thing people do on Mumsnet is “DD” “DS” especially when sometimes they’re referring to their sister and sometimes their son. Or sometimes their daughter or sometimes their dad, and you just have to figure out what the hell they’re talking about!

Butchyrestingface · 31/12/2024 10:54
  • Hubz
  • the old ball and chain
  • him indoors

All perfectly acceptable. 😀

‘DH’ is stupid since about 70% of the time posters are talking about their selfish bastard husband who they fantasise about leaving. Far from ‘dear’.

TotallyTwisted · 31/12/2024 10:54

Ah OP, you just need some chill time on holibobs with the famalam.

How about DB - Dear Budgie?

sunbum · 31/12/2024 10:59

Worse is 'holibobs' for holidays. That should carry instant MN ban. Then 'hubby', then 'little man' for a male baby.

'Naice' is creeping up behind.

On threads about money, earnings, feminism etc, anyone who comes on a thread without their own opinion or anecdote and says 'well my husband says/earns/thinks' should be perma banned from the internet.

But not as annoying as ”holibobs” “telly box” and “gawjus” surely? 😂

I only like the D prefixes when it's a DDog or DCat

Buxomblondie · 31/12/2024 11:26

Yanbu. It should be banned everywhere tbh (LIGHT FUCKING HEARTED)

wholettheturnipsburn · 31/12/2024 11:30

Marchweshall · 31/12/2024 10:20

It’s no worse than DH.

Of course it's worse.

It's not Mumsnet

Buxomblondie · 31/12/2024 11:32

Definitely worse than dh. Dh at least saves letters <bangs gavel>

JapanOneDay · 31/12/2024 11:32

Yep ban all these phrases. Esp agree with ‘picky bits’.

Buxomblondie · 31/12/2024 11:34

"Picky tea" shudder

wholettheturnipsburn · 31/12/2024 11:34

@Lastofthesummerwine The type of posters that use "h*y Envy are also the type to use those other words

It triggers a visceral reaction in me

AhBiscuits · 31/12/2024 11:34

I don't mind DH, but only because it stands for dickhead when I use it.

Mercedes45 · 31/12/2024 11:36

What even is Naice? I always say it in my head in Borats voice. "I like it very much, Is Naice"

It's from a shopping list a MNer found years ago which included Naice ham.

Nesbi · 31/12/2024 11:38

Surely no one sees “DH” and reads it as “Dear husband”?!

when I see “DH” my brain just recognises that it means husband on MN and moves on, I don’t interpret it any more than that. I certainly don’t read the “dear” part.
