I see more and more posters are referring to their husbands as "hubby". I can't stand the abbreviation and wish it would disappear.🫥

To be honest men being on here full stop really irritates me. Is there nothing that women can have without it being invaded by men.

my experience of this was post children attending daytime educational classes
at College in the town, among others, Womens Studies - eleven keen ladies
and one Jim, a retired pensioner, free classes so was making the most of his disruptive talents, completely spoilt the class, by this time of year there were 3 stalwarts left in class - including Jim
boastful, entitled, combative, uneducated wimmin basher, learnt nothing, knew all

pictoosh · 31/12/2024 12:19

Yabu, it's a commonly used term and frankly posters on here are childish as hell about it. And sometimes downright nasty too.

As you can see there are terms which are annoying to different people.

What's more annoying than any of them are those posters who chime in just to tell someone off for using one. Rude, arrogant, juvenile.

Naice boils my piss every time I see it, such twattery.

Hubby - can't get too worked up sometimes can be used tongue in cheek.

pictoosh · 31/12/2024 12:21

"yabu for using the word hubby"

fuck off

TheaBrandt · 31/12/2024 12:22

Agree. It’s the worst. Second is “Indy” for private schools

and ‘grab’ who ‘grabs’ a coffee? or anything, it’s so aggressive,
it’s also arrogant, denoting speed and imperative,
‘spotlight on me grabbing some lunch’ cos I’m in a hurry
Im busy busy busy, only have time to grab, I’m so important -
how many times has anyone heard a colleague or companion say -
“just let me grab a (whatever) and I’ll be right with you”

You are waaaaay overthinking things.

I wish they would can the ludicrous DCAT and DDOG and DNIECE and DNEPHEW. Posts with those in should be instantly hidden! 😆

SabreIsMyFave · 31/12/2024 12:25

Actually @merrymelodies HUBBY doesn't bother me, (sorry!)

SabreIsMyFave · 31/12/2024 12:26

I agree NAICE is super wanky! 😬

Oh please can we ban vile. This is not a word I have ever heard in real life. It's peak mumsnet.

I have ! once ! made me laugh with the force of its delivery -
commenting on the stormy weather, said ‘yes! isn‘t it VILE!”
and so it was

Toucanfusingforme · 31/12/2024 12:27

“We’re going to have a cheeky Chinese/Italian/etc”.
Infuriates me irrationally. Why is it cheeky? Does it insult you as you’re about to eat it?!

DDog and DCat are my favourites, I think keep those and ban all the others.

The D in DH I always imagine stands for something else...

Dim, dratted, dopey, dastardly, devilish, dickhead - any more?

My major irritant on MN (and another forum that shall be nameless) is posters who spell very well known/famous names wrongly, often over and over. E.g.:

Kier
Judy (Dench)
Weatherspoons
Lurpack
🤬!

redwinechocolateandsnacks · 31/12/2024 12:28

Can we also stop with 'ladies'

I have a friend who says this, e.g. "cool I'll just grab some lunch then I'll head over to yours". Doesn't bother me really 🤷‍♀️

I know what you mean.

I like a moan as much as the next person does on here and not averse to a bit of this. But I think the extreme allergy to words like "hubby" and "hollibob" and the pile-ons they generate is a bit overdone.

They are annoying but nowhere near as annoying as some of the poor critical thinking, over-used cliches and bullshit truisms which get trotted out on here by people who are happy to jump in to sneer at others for using naff language but loathe to use their own brains much. And also let's be honest it's a bit of a cliche to sneer at "hubby" and "hubs". Not a week goes by without a post about this.

I'd far rather see the word "hubby" a million times a day but avoid having to read poorly constructed arguments, herd-like behaviour and general nastiness. Such as the people who insist that "all school mums are nasty bitches" or "everyone must get married". And other canards which people bleat out without really understanding.

@Lastofthesummerwine The type of posters that use "h*y Envy are also the type to use those other words

It triggers a visceral reaction in me

Also the people who try to prove they're a long time mumsnetter/not fake by starting their posts with references to 'classic' threads. Nobody is impressed by you having been here for 20 years

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 31/12/2024 12:33

'hubby' 'hubs' 'hubster' or anything similar is on par with use of the word 'hun'. I severely judge anyone who uses such terms. Common and cringe worthy.

You are waaaaay overthinking things.

But it's what the marketers of takeaway coffees etc want people to think, and language use has been influenced accordingly: you need to carry around a takeaway cup of coffee you important go-getter, you! No time for you to sit down for breakfast but you need your caffeine fix! You're so busy, dynamic and important, just ON THE GO all the time!

Obviously not everyone thinks that when they're "grabbing" something, or getting a takeaway etc, but that's where the linguistic trend comes from.
