I'll start. Sorry for sticking it here, posting for traffic.

Didn't fancy turkey this year so did a beef wellington, with mushroom duxelle & Parma ham inside.
Goose fat roasties with garlic salt and rosemary.
Cinnamon red cabbage
Pan fried sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta
Normal carrots as my 4 year old won't eat them any other way
Pigs in blankets
Homemade yorkies
Waitrose bought stuffing as I don't really like it that much.

Topped with an orange gravy with a red wine stock pot shoved in.

It was delish. Ate early-ish as I have to eat with medication. Thought I'd get in early and ask you all to share your lovely Christmas lunches!

Also highly recommend the meat from Waitrose butcher counter. It's lovely.

@fuckmemytoehurts it's just baked in a big tray! Same method for little yorkies but just a bigger pan to cook in and keeping an eye on the oven!

I mean I don't class today as a day for concentrating on the 5 a day.. but we did have sprouts, cabbage & carrots. 3 lots of veg. 4 if you count the spuds (joke)

It's not about watching the five a day, it's about a plate full of stodge not being very pleasant without some greenery to help it along, carrots, red cabbage and potatoes aren't greens! I've never seen a Christmas dinner without peas before!

JaceLancs · 25/12/2024 17:01

No pictures but we had a starter of smoked salmon, prawns in sauce, large shell on prawns and a crab and salmon terrine with crackers and various breads
Then chicken and/or lamb, gravy and a red wine jus, mint or cranberry jelly, home made stuffing, pigs in blankets, mashed potatoes, carrot and swede mash, broccoli, sprouts and leeks in a cheese sauce
Enough leftovers for 2-3 days
We didn’t have a dessert as yet, but will be a choice of Waitrose red velvet dessert, panna cotta, Xmas pudding or cheese and biscuits

Are you eating it out of the foil tray @macap?

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/12/2024 17:04

Just realised the red cabbage is still in the slow cooker 2 hours after the event. Again.

Christmas is the one time everyone requests what they want, hence the selection of beef, turkey and pork.

We had the most ginormous steaks with peppercorn sauce (only put a little on for the photo as didn't want it running off the plate!) with pigs in blankets, shredded sprouts with pancetta and chestnuts, carrots, parsnips and roast potatoes. Had to go for a walk before we could tackle pudding - which was home made tiramisu.

First Christmas at home (have travelled to see family for the past 12 years!) so we pulled together:

Turkey, with pork and cranberry stuffing with bacon
Pigs and blankets
Stuffing balls
Roast potatoes and parsnips
Carrot and swede mash
Carrots, broccoli and peas

All in a big Yorkshire pudding! Photo is of DH's as I didn't have a whole one and it looked better in a whole one!

Oh my… that is lush. That’s all Xmas Grin Merry Christmas!

I've never seen a Christmas dinner without peas before!

I've never had peas with a xmas dinner. Peas are such an everyday veg they don't belong on a xmas dinner in my opinion.

Natsku · 25/12/2024 17:28

These pictures are making me really crave yorkshire puddings but I don't have any gravy

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 25/12/2024 17:29

I didn't lift a finger. My adult son did everything (proud mum).

@fuckmemytoehurts
We're in Tenerife.. eldest DSC is 30 this year so we're done with traditional christmases ❤️🎄
So far have been taught to Salsa by a hunky Norwegian, drunk champagne cocktails... all the time in a bikini!
Hope you're having a great one 🎅🏻

And I've never felt the need to be critical of someone else's Christmas dinner. Funny how we're all different, isn't it 🙂

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 25/12/2024 17:44

This was mine. I left the table feeling nicely full but am feeling more and more stuffed as I sit on the settee.

DH and DS had the same with many pigs in blankets- I don’t eat pork.

The gravy reduced down too far whilst I had it on the hob gently simmering. Green veg police will be pleased to note that I had plenty. There was even more under the home made ‘yorkshire pie’, as my son calls them.

40plus years on this planet and today I've cooked my 1st Christmas dinner minus the turkey. Catering for my FIL at his house having lost MIL earlier this year. I generally dislike the cooking, sitting around waiting for life to pass by and much prefer to be on holiday or in our campervan. Beef, gammon, maple glazed veg and more. Now for the port 😁 all worth it to see my FIL half smile, hear his memories. 71 Christmas MIL & FIL spent together.

What a good job you have done !
Happy for fil that you helped him today . 😊

Wowza, now that’s what I call a Yorkshire pudding!

Thankyou x my other half made them. We use a really old shallow Yorkshire pud tin my mum gave us. !

I'm thinking these are from southern England generally? Just a thought from the general paucity of gravy!

Doubt it - look at all the Yorkshire puddings!
