I'll start. Sorry for sticking it here, posting for traffic.

Didn't fancy turkey this year so did a beef wellington, with mushroom duxelle & Parma ham inside.
Goose fat roasties with garlic salt and rosemary.
Cinnamon red cabbage
Pan fried sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta
Normal carrots as my 4 year old won't eat them any other way
Pigs in blankets
Homemade yorkies
Waitrose bought stuffing as I don't really like it that much.

Topped with an orange gravy with a red wine stock pot shoved in.

It was delish. Ate early-ish as I have to eat with medication. Thought I'd get in early and ask you all to share your lovely Christmas lunches!

Also highly recommend the meat from Waitrose butcher counter. It's lovely.

DH made a beef wellington, which I sadly had to eat in bed as I'm full of an awful viral infection and have barely moved from my bed this year. Thank goodness for DH saving Christmas! He's done all the food shopping, cooking and present wrapping! I just wish I'd been well enough to enjoy this gorgeous meal properly! 😞

Roast turkey and ham. Pigs in blankets (we only like them if they’re cremated 😂), maple roasted Brussels sprouts, carrot & swede mash, stuffing, roast potatoes & Yorkshire puds. My sister was visiting for Christmas & just took over the cooking of dinner. Entirely! It was amazing 😂

It looks delicious @Rustyfeet and of course they meant to be rude 🤨

@Delphigirl you are lucky that all that bread sauce is on the side of my iffy eye so I can easily filter it out.

Second day turkey reheated in gravy for us, today. I enjoyed it more than yesterday as I've had a cold and haven't been sleeping well and wasn't very hungry. Today... Ravenous! The spuds are/were better than they look. King Edwards roasted in groundnut oil. They don't go dark but they're so crunchy!

It all looks lovely - I’m just really surprised to see Yorkshire puddings at Christmas?! I didn’t realise this was part of the traditional meal as I never make them at Christmas!

They go on ALL roasts! I only saw this thread today but surprised at the minuscule amounts of gravy. We're northern and ours were smothered in it!

I pour mine so it misses the spuds. Loads left when I was done.

We had ours at 6pm today. I cooked a large organic chicken and a large gammon ham (with a brown sugar & honey 'burnt' top that Dd loves). Roasted potatoes, parsnips & carrots. Plain steamed sprouts. Homemade pigs in blankets. Stuffing. Red cabbage (unsuccessful). Yorkshire puddings, gravy, bread sauce & cranberry sauce (forgot, so jar on table). I Divorced this year so did it alone (with a broken foot) for my two teenagers. For the first time I put it on the top of stove & they helped themselves (good as both ASD). It was lovely. The silly amount of leftovers will be divided & frozen for base of our next 4 Sunday Dinners.

EnoughNow2023 · 26/12/2024 20:25

This was ours. Roast sirloin with chestnut and bacon stuffing. Roasted rainbow carrots and parsnips, Yorkshire puds, pigs in blankets, pork sage and onion stuffing balls and gravy.
It was delicious and for the first time everyone ate up. I'd usually have more veg but forgot some that I'd brought. This is my DSs plate (only pic we have) who claims to be allegic to veg. If you look close there is a single carrot in the back which he did actually eat just for me as it was Christmas.

My husband cooked chicken in a red wine and Port sauce, with roast potatoes, onions, parsnips and carrots, tender stem broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, peas, wild mushrooms, garnished with pea and mint purée and parsnip and garlic purée. (I think I mentioned it all!) He’s a great cook!

Afterwards he made ginger sponge puddings served with brandy sauce

It was smothered in butter and unde the skin. It was very moist and delicious! @TheGrinchsBallsack it wasn't even slightly dry! To be fair most roast dinners look like they have been attacked to a certain degree 🤣

I was going to ask what it was as well, I bet it was delicious! I grew up with not having chicken with potatoes until I married. It was always chicken and rice at home (also delicious).

We're all different. I relish reading about different cultures and recipes. I've been known to copy whole threads for inspiration. Grin

I'm surprised at the anemic looking roast potatoes and parsnips in this thread! Do you not like properly roasted veg?

There are dead birds galore, a few slaughtered pigs, some lambs and cows, and this your take? Get a grip 🤣

Why come onto a thread about roast dinners if photos of meat are going to bother you? Get a grip.

They don't bother me - I've participated in this thread without judgement. I just find it hilarious that someone has come on and spoken about the anaemic potatoes and parsnips, that people have taken the time to prepare and cook, and not commented on the billions of animals sacrificed for this festive period.

NotSayingImBatman · 26/12/2024 22:46

I’ve cooked every year for the past 10 years (DS2 is, coincidentally, 10). This year my mum offered to cook. Then she had a massive meltdown after peeling the veg, so DH and I ended up cooking the lunch in her kitchen.

Properly roasted potatoes are important.

All these people suffering from a lack of decent roasties at Christmas... It's inhumane.

Shout out to the Aberdonians, spot the skirlie ❤️ brined turkey leg meat too, a symphony of flavours.

Some lovely looking roasts here!

I certainly noticed that most people do not have a plate swimming with gravy like I do 😀

Is this a north and south divide I wonder? Gravy in abundance is a must for me and I'm in the north. I'll even drink it if it is left.

Like I said, I use groundnut oil which doesn't give a particularly dark roast, even with parsnips. If it does become dark, it's usually dried out.

This was eaten yesterday, as that's our Christmas. Traditional Finnish Christmas dinner - ham, potato casserole, swede casserole, blazed salmon, cognac salted salmon, pickled herrings, beetroot salad and just out of shot were the breads - a pale Christmas bread (sweetish bread, made with buttermilk) and some dark gluten free archipelago bread (dark and malty and lovely with pickled herring)

Ooh! Where do you get the gluten free bread from?! Sounds amazing!

butterflysandrobins · 27/12/2024 00:55

I could eat that again 😋
