I'll start. Sorry for sticking it here, posting for traffic.

Didn't fancy turkey this year so did a beef wellington, with mushroom duxelle & Parma ham inside.
Goose fat roasties with garlic salt and rosemary.
Cinnamon red cabbage
Pan fried sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta
Normal carrots as my 4 year old won't eat them any other way
Pigs in blankets
Homemade yorkies
Waitrose bought stuffing as I don't really like it that much.

Topped with an orange gravy with a red wine stock pot shoved in.

It was delish. Ate early-ish as I have to eat with medication. Thought I'd get in early and ask you all to share your lovely Christmas lunches!

Also highly recommend the meat from Waitrose butcher counter. It's lovely.

Before ladling more cauliflower/broccoli cheese on.
On my own today for the first Christmas ever, and this has all the things I wanted on it. Chicken, herbed boiled potatoes, loads of parsnips, gravy and the special ingredient - Thai sweet chilli sauce. And cheddar, Stilton and English mustard in the cheese sauce.

Didn't take a pic (unlike me as I usually do!)
DH did all the cooking, - We had
Nut roast
Stuffing balls
Roast potatoes
Parsnips, green beans, broccoli, red cabbage, sprouts, homemade bread sauce and cranberry sauce, lots of veg gravy
Turkey and pigs in blankets for the meat eaters.
Now attacking my lovely vegan chocs I got 😁

Some of the beef looks very rare, as if a good vet would have it back on its feet.

I like my steak blue but DH would veto so we settled on rare, with the end bits being more medium so everyone's happy :)

My DH has to step up and cook for 8, with no help for his first ever attempt at Christmas dinner. Unfortunately I have been hit with Norovirus, this was what I attempted but only managed half, and saw it again not long after 🤢😞

It really isn’t sensitive content!! How the Jeff do you get rid of that??

Sunhatweather · 25/12/2024 19:11

It all looks lovely - I’m just really surprised to see Yorkshire puddings at Christmas?! I didn’t realise this was part of the traditional meal as I never make them at Christmas!

We (like many people) have them with every roast dinner 🤷‍♂️

We decided no sprouts or parsnips this year, because we always seem to waste them.

Totally vegan and absolutely delicious.

Yes, I'm from Yorkshire and a Yorkshire pudding does belong on a Christmas dinner.

DH also had boiled potatoes and carrots with his. I find that absolutely weird. You can have two potatoes together - roasted and mashed, not roasted and boiled.

BebbanburgIsMine · 25/12/2024 19:30

Just had ours

Roast chicken (don't like turkey) roast tatties, carrots, peas, yorkshire pudding, and skirlie (traditional Scottish side) with gravy.

We had carrot and coriander soup earlier, too full for pudding just now, we have sticky toffee pudding for tomorrow.

Peas are out of season.

Peas are never out of season from the freezer. (I don’t particularly like them on a roast dinner but they’re a useful vegetable if you’ve got small, hangry children who turn their noses up at spiced red cabbage, etc.)

Elephant9 · 25/12/2024 19:46

Here goes..

all done 3.5 weeks post- 2nd baby! 😅😂

😁 Nothing is out of season from the freezer! I use frozen peas a fair bit, and very good they are too. It did seem odd, though, to criticise a meal that included Brussels sprouts (foul veg, surely the rotting testicles of Satan!) for containing no green veg.

macap · 25/12/2024 20:32

BleachedJumper · 25/12/2024 17:03

Are you eating it out of the foil tray @macap?

Not me, it was a takeaway for my mums DP. I'm on mounjaro that would be wasted on me! I had a smaller version. 😆

Toomanylosthours · 25/12/2024 18:33

Ohhh would you mind sharing the cherry chilli pepper glaze? Sounds amazing

It is pretty easy, but I eyeball everything and adjust to taste, so I don’t have amounts. Coat your chilis of choice (I use long green chilis) in olive oil and broil until skin is blistered. Place them in a sealed ziplock bag until they are cool enough to handle and the skin starts to separate. Then peel the skin off and clean out the seeds. Put frozen cherries in a pot on medium heat, stirring and crushing periodically. Once the cherries are fully defrosted and starting to come apart, add your chilies and a drizzle of honey. Sauté until bubbly. I use an immersion blender to blend it smooth, but you can also use it chunky. Sometimes I also add cloves or cinnamon. We like spicy, if you prefer milder, you can use poblano peppers. If you like sweeter, use more honey.

It's not about watching the five a day, it's about a plate full of stodge not being very pleasant without some greenery to help it along, carrots, red cabbage and potatoes aren't greens! I've never seen a Christmas dinner without peas before!

I'm not alone in stating that many people don't consider peas to have any place in a Christmas meal.

Ultimately it's about feasting on something you enjoy, though. Neuro diverse household like pp so that involved ketchup for the boys and DS1 had all his meat stuffed in a baguette with salad leaves and corn on the cob on the side. DS2 had no veg whatsoever. Thankfully he's a young adult at the point that, rather than gagging at the sight of sprouts, he treats them with scorn - except when I'm being a evil mum and chase him round the house with a big sprout stalk 😈

Anyhow. You do you. OP's dinner wouldn't be my choice as I don't like beef much and the feeling is mutual but her Christmas dinner is not wrong. It's just not what you would eat.
