Will Dh wake up in time

He’s really pissing me off

As usual I’ve done every single thing for Christmas
It’s our normal thing that if we’re at our house on Christmas eve, I go to bed with dd..Christmas stories etc and fall asleep. Dh then brings all the presents downstairs, sets them up, eats the mince pie and carrot, drinks the milk and so on.
Dd fast asleep for ages, I couldn’t hear Dh milling about at all, trying not to nod off as so tired. So i creep downstairs and he’s fast asleep on the sofa. I woke him up to remind him (he sometimes falls asleep on the sofa until the morning and dd goes down)
I reminded him to put them out, because if he doesn’t wake up and she comes down, she’ll obviously be devastated, I also ate half the bloody mince pie, drank the milk etc. He sat up
half asleep and said he would. Ive come back up to bed and still can’t hear any moving about. I cannot relax and fall asleep until I know he’s done it, just cannot rely on him at all, If I go down and wake him up, he’ll probably be angry as in ‘I told you i’d do it’ but what if he doesn’t wake up
Shall I just bloody well do that also?

Also Scottish and it's always been whiskey here lol! I don't like whiskey or milk so either does half down the drain lol! Hope your husband has done Santa duties xxxx

Whiskey? If you’re Scottish, why aren’t you serving Santa proper whisky?

OrangeSlices998 · 25/12/2024 00:10

He doesn’t know where the gifts go? Do they not just go under the tree?

He sounds like a useless wet blanket OP

MerrilyOnhigh · 25/12/2024 00:14

Santa definitely gets sherry or port in our house.

BrieHugger · 25/12/2024 00:17

Do people not leave Santa just whatever their Santa happens to like? Ours liked a large baileys on ice and some Ferrero Rocher (because he must get really sick of mince pies, mustn’t he)

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 25/12/2024 00:21

Just heard dp go the toilet. Will he take the hint at the massive bag I've taken down and get the rest of it?

Big tree presents aren't from Santa, little stocking presents are from Santa.

This is what we do too

CherryBlossom321 · 25/12/2024 00:33

It sounds like you would be experiencing far less stress in your life in general, if you weren’t having to ensure he participated in family life…take some time after Christmas to consider the future of your relationship.

Anywherebuthere · 25/12/2024 00:43

Why wouldnt you just trust that he will wake up on time and sort it in the morning?

I would be annoyed as hell if I was being woken for this. Or if I was being shaken awake as some people are suggesting.

StarlightStalagmite · 25/12/2024 00:48

We always put out sherry as kids. Milk this year as we don't drink and a glass of water seemed a bit stingy!

Didimum · 25/12/2024 00:51

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea · 24/12/2024 23:38

Ahh ok we don’t do that

You’re making such a rod for your own back.

Blueuggboots · 25/12/2024 00:51

We always had Baileys!

DappledThings · 25/12/2024 00:55

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea · 24/12/2024 23:25

But how do you then say that Santa came on Christmas eve? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Because he brings the contents of the stockings

notthatoldchestnut · 25/12/2024 00:59

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea · 24/12/2024 23:14

How do others do it in your homes?

Santa brings 1 present off the list that they send, and 1 smaller gift plus a stocking with an orange, socks, pen and some chocolate.

All other gifts are from us or family members

thaegumathteth · 25/12/2024 02:27

God people are desperate to blame OP for her husband not doing his part of Christmas. Unreal.

Re milk - I'd no idea Father Christmas drank milk these days.

Regarding the presents, hope it all works out

My dad said Santa only likes beer.....lol

Hesonlyakidharry · 24/12/2024 23:43

I’m Scottish. It’s whisky here (or sherry!). I thought the English did sherry.
Milk is American. I’m guessing you’ve done milk and cookies because you saw it in American films?

English here, and when I was a kid it was whisky and a mince pie. Then again, that was because my great grandma liked whisky and she used to visit on Christmas Eve 🤣

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/12/2024 03:47

Regarding "his" snack.....the teenagers once stayed up to leave Santa a mushroom pizza and a glass of single malt after "he" fell asleep on the sofa as "he" did most years out of sheer exhaustion. And very nice they were too!

Or so Santa told me......

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/12/2024 03:48

In our house as kids it was sherry, my mum likes a sherry.......

Should rename this place Martyrnet. Only three months until mothers day......

Jinkslinger · 25/12/2024 04:21

Father Christmas was partial to sherry in my day

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea · 24/12/2024 23:25

But how do you then say that Santa came on Christmas eve? 🤷🏻‍♀️

He doesn't bring all of everyone's presents! He brings the stockings. End of.

Semiramide · 25/12/2024 04:33

@Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea - your daughter is young enough for you to 'need' to co-sleep.

And yet she is getting presents that are too big and heavy for you to carry downstairs?

Are you sure she is not getting too much...

She doesn't know that he isn't going to do it. If I was her DH and had all this dramatic carry on I would be royally pissed off.

Mumsnet honestly 🤣

We left milk out for Santa too OP it's pretty common.

As for DH no advice but you have my sympathy as my STBXH was the same. Lazy and uninvolved AF. One of the many reasons he is now an ex.

Poisonwood · 25/12/2024 05:41

Have to say, Scottish here, and whisky is spelt whisky! The Americanisation of the world is depressing. Also - we always do milk as we are a teetotal household and “he” isn’t getting whisky if I’m not 😂.

OP, your DD is young enough that you can use this as an opportunity to rethink the way you do Christmas - you sound so stressed and that’s not the point of the celebration at all.
Stocking only from Father Christmas teaches children to appreciate the hard work and generosity of real peoples in their lives and especially their parents. It’s very useful to have two duplicate stockings and one filled hidden away - then you just swap the empty fireplace one for the filled and it takes seconds.
