Will Dh wake up in time

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea · 24/12/2024 22:43

He’s really pissing me off

As usual I’ve done every single thing for Christmas
It’s our normal thing that if we’re at our house on Christmas eve, I go to bed with dd..Christmas stories etc and fall asleep. Dh then brings all the presents downstairs, sets them up, eats the mince pie and carrot, drinks the milk and so on.
Dd fast asleep for ages, I couldn’t hear Dh milling about at all, trying not to nod off as so tired. So i creep downstairs and he’s fast asleep on the sofa. I woke him up to remind him (he sometimes falls asleep on the sofa until the morning and dd goes down)
I reminded him to put them out, because if he doesn’t wake up and she comes down, she’ll obviously be devastated, I also ate half the bloody mince pie, drank the milk etc. He sat up
half asleep and said he would. Ive come back up to bed and still can’t hear any moving about. I cannot relax and fall asleep until I know he’s done it, just cannot rely on him at all, If I go down and wake him up, he’ll probably be angry as in ‘I told you i’d do it’ but what if he doesn’t wake up
Shall I just bloody well do that also?

We put all presents out under the tree days before whenever they arrive. Apart from stockings which are just the little bits and take 5 minutes to set up.

None of this faffing about with piles of presents up to the last minute.

How long will it take you to put a few bits out that you can't risk DD waking up in that time frame?

But how do you then say that Santa came on Christmas eve? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Has he been drinking or something?

Why wouldn't he just put the presents out and then go to sleep afterwards?

How incompetent.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyea · 24/12/2024 22:50

Because we co sleep with dd and if i’m
not there she may wake. Also, the cupboard is right next to the bedroom, the bags are heavy and basically ive done every other thing!!!

But you went downstairs to be passive aggressive so surely you could have taken presents down with you. You weren't worried about waking her then.

If the cupboard is next to the bedroom that's a problem regardless of you or him doing it.

Big tree presents aren't from Santa, little stocking presents are from Santa.

It took two seconds to nip down and wake him, longer to get all the presents out and put them in the right places and stockings etc. We do the whole thing-short letter from santa thanking for the mince pie, footprints etc. It’s his thing not mine, I do everything else!!

Re milk - I'd no idea Father Christmas drank milk these days.

Regarding the presents, hope it all works out

Yes! Just called by messenger asking which goes where etc, so now I have to remind of the whole procedure and try to get to sleep 😴

I’m Scottish. It’s whisky here (or sherry!). I thought the English did sherry.
Milk is American. I’m guessing you’ve done milk and cookies because you saw it in American films?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 24/12/2024 23:46

My DP is also asleep on the couch. I'm in bed ill with 1 year old. I'm just going to take a leap of faith and take the presents down in the early hours!

umberellaup · 24/12/2024 23:47

When my dc were toddlers/ old enough to understand Santa, they had been in their own room since they were 6 months old, so when they were asleep they weren't disturbed.
Dh and I would do the gifts together.

It sounds as though you don't both co sleep, you sleep with your dd and your dh sleeps on the sofa. Of course he's tired if he doesn't sleep in the bed. Why are you allowing a child to dictate your evening routine and hold you hostage in bed for fear of waking them?
When do you spend quality time with your dh without dd?

No, not because of that, never had sherry in my life. I think we did wine as kids, but my dad is a big drinker, we’re not so much anymore. I think that’s why we just go with milk 🤷🏻‍♀️a mince pie and a carrot

I dunno, maybe it’s me being too uptight but i’d be scared we didn’t wake up, I prefer just get it done, then relax.

English here. Never drunk sherry. Hate whiskey. So we do mince pie and carrot.

Eh??

Dh does normally sleep in bed, we all do, sometimes if he’s up late, he’ll fall asleep on the sofa.
Sone put their Dc on their own at a young age, some prefer to have them with them, we get time together. We’ve had years and years just us, Dd comes first for now

I see SO many posts on here asking what's the point of this or that seemingly useless and unhelpful man that some other disgruntled poster is keeping around the house and complaining about.

Thank you, OP, for finally solving the mystery!! 👞👞👞🎄👑

Cece92 · 24/12/2024 23:58

Also Scottish and it's always been whiskey here lol! I don't like whiskey or milk so either does half down the drain lol! Hope your husband has done Santa duties xxxx

He's pretty much done everything for the last week including the wrapping. Just took a big bag down to see if he'd done it while I was asleep before. He hasn't. I'm not waking him up, he may have an alarm set or something, but if not il wake him in the morning to help me. Its too cold right now, il probably throw the heating on at 5am. Ds is a late sleeper I'm chancing it!

Well, we don’t do whiskey so that’s moot.
