"Men will give up their happiness for their families but women will give up their families for their happiness."

My DH explaining the burden of being a man to me this morning.

OP posts:
Hankunamatata · 22/12/2024 17:45

Well he will get his pearls of wisdom from peppa pig

MaggieBsBoat · 22/12/2024 17:46

KeeKees · 22/12/2024 15:55

Everyone saying the other way round 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

So is no one happy in their families? I don't give up happiness for my family, I am perfectly happy in and with my family.

Good for you. A lot of people aren’t. You o my have to spend an hour on MN to realise that.

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 22/12/2024 17:48

Some people give up happiness, but some people… It’s all just people.

Daddy Pig is completely downtrodden, diminished and mocked by his awful family, tbf.

Never thought of Peppa Pig as a incel text though 🤔😅

Edited

So glad I don't let 2 year old DS watch it now. Imagine how he could have turned out😂😂😂

Mrsbloggz · 22/12/2024 17:50

Is that the best he can come up with? 😂

johnyhadasister · 22/12/2024 17:51

Man literally gives only a portion of his income and nothing else. A woman gives up absolutely everything to even sacrificial extent. Go and read all the stories here that he just gave her allowance, was always to work, she raised 4 kids and paid for it all with his meagre allowance. She does not know how to divorce him. The thread is still on

Mrsbloggz · 22/12/2024 17:50

Moral philosopher he ain't 😬

snotathing · 22/12/2024 17:56

Let me guess, you'd just asked him to watch his own children for an hour while you 'enjoyed yourself' organising everything for Christmas?

EarthSight · 22/12/2024 17:57

but women will give up their families for their happiness

Let this be a warning to you.

Your husband generally sees men as valiant, devoted knights who sacrifice all their happiness to the old ball & chain (aka 'The Wife').

It's resentful statement said by men who are angry that women have rights and the ability to divorce men. THE AUDACITY of it! They've never recovered from the fact that their wives aren't trapped anymore in sad or abusive situations like they were more likely to be decades ago, that they're not dragged back to the family home by the local religious leader.

I wonder if he's an Andrew Tate sympathiser.

cakewench · 22/12/2024 17:59

He's assuming that day to day family chores and drudgery are a woman's dream, and we're just dragging the poor men down into it?

Interestingly, or not, it's almost always men who get to carry on with immersive, weekend-long hobbies such as golf and cycling, whilst leaving the women home to sort out cleaning the house and looking after the children. No thought to what they might be interested outside of that.

I know a woman who hasn't been 'out-out' since having her first child 15 years ago. Literally at all. I wonder how many men fall into that category?

(Before the NAM folk come for me, no this isn't my life, my husband knows I am an adult capable of having different interests etc. Though I am still generally expected to arrange meals if I'm gone, if I want our child to eat, because he regularly forgets that. somehow.)

dottydodah · 22/12/2024 18:00

So men give birth then with the pain ,loss of earnings,BF and so on .I assume this is a kind of goady post. Men who choose to rape, kill and torture are giving their families happiness? Poor Sara Sharif ,her father was a piece of shit what happiness has he given ?

Sunnnybunny72 · 22/12/2024 18:04

He needs to look at the stats. Most LP aren't male. Not by a long way.

YiayiaP · 22/12/2024 18:05

Eh?!

Mrswhatsit40 · 22/12/2024 18:08

Well, I know many many men who have left their families to pursue their own (usually in the form of an OW) "happiness"

But in my 45 years I don't know any women who have left their family. I Know plenty of women who have forgone their own happiness in order to keep the family together though.

Maybe your dh is very young and naive?

NordicwithTeen · 22/12/2024 18:09

Wow. I've yet to meet a man who does anything for a woman in distress (other than run a mile). The amount of exes I've looked after through thick and thin, sickness, job loss etc...pffft, your husband is on another planet.

LoveRicePudding · 22/12/2024 18:11

If my DH said anything like that, he'd get something heavy flying at his head. He doesn't because he has a pretty good self-preservation instinct.

Gggglinda · 22/12/2024 18:14

MyPithyPoster · 22/12/2024 16:04

I’ve only ever met one that did exactly that in my 50 years on the planet and she was so demonised and cast out by everybody that she had to relocate to the other side of the Midlands and not tell anybody that she had the first family.

And even when everybody was all grown up it was the first piece of information I was given about her as an introduction. This is Eileen. She fucked off and left her three kids.
How she avoided being burnt at the stake, I’ll never know

This!

I've only met one too. Coincidentally from the midlands who is introduced as the woman who buggered off with a married man and left her 3 kids 😂

NonPlayerCharacter · 22/12/2024 18:16

Boomboombooo · 22/12/2024 16:12

Hung over, watching Peppa Pig with DC, whilst feeling sorry for Daddy Pig.

Not Tiny Tim, not the deaths of Mufasa or Dobbie or Sirius Black or Jack Dawson, not Scarlett O'Hara declaring she'll never be hungry again. That one, with Daddy Pig. That's the most powerful moment in screen history that cuts right to the quick of the human condition.

SleepToad · 22/12/2024 18:20

The only burdens I have as a man are, especially a working class one:
Everyone expects you to be brilliant at diy
Everyone expects you to be able to reverse

That's it...we get a pretty free ride.

Shit dad...well he busy working and is tried
Doesn't do housework...well his mum did everything
Fucks off with another woman....well she let herself go after having the kids

DerekFaker · 22/12/2024 18:21

Well that's bollocks isn't it?

GivingitToGod · 22/12/2024 18:21

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/12/2024 15:53

The TBH I’d have thought it was the other way around. I’d like to know how many men sod off with the OW and leave their wives and kids, compared to women who sod off with the OM and leave their husbands and kids.

I know only of the first category.

Ditto

lover99 · 22/12/2024 18:22

tell him from me to piss all the way off

PerambulationFrustration · 22/12/2024 18:23

It probably means that men think they are happy to remain free and single then give that up to have the burden of family.

Nothatgingerpirate · 22/12/2024 18:24

Surely, if anything, it's the other way round.
That's why I started really liking men, after I hit about 42 years of age.
