Why when writing on here can't you just say the whole word instead of dd mil ect it's really annoying and lazy

You might have expected the stupid responses you got in reply, sadly. This along with the constant bad language is why I am leaving Mumsnet. The standards are way too low for me.

New to MN?

Hilarious thread OP! Mumsnet approved abbreviations are fine. Grammatical errors on the other hand..... thanks for the chuckle.

Just a bit of horseplay!

Yes, sorry. We’ll try and rein it in a bit.

There's someone who wrote a (well meaning and quite sweet) message on the noticeboard in our block who wrote about our "blocker flats"

🤣🤣🤣
The one that rips my knitting is "cuppa tea". Have seen this written in records at work; "offered her a cuppa tea"! 😠

OffMyDahlias · 22/12/2024 16:00

I hate it when people are too lazy to use proper punctuation.

Babbahabba · 22/12/2024 16:02

I never make fun of anyone's use of the English language unless they post criticising other people's use of it. Then I will.

I once saw someone posting about her DC who liked to play outside in the 'colder sack'! 🤭

At times like this I love the quaint old Scottish expression - ‘Get tae fuck!’

BeardofHagrid · 22/12/2024 08:36

I find it off putting too. Why not just write son, daughter, father etc? Very weird. A bit cult like.

Please use hyphens: off-putting, cult-like.

Yup, me too. Or occasionally I might do.it if they are just being offensive or unpleasant.

I usually really dislike people picking on SPAG on MN. But the OP was being a twat, so the gloves were off.

I fear you may have missed out on the first couple of pages of the thread and assumed we were ‘still’ discussing MN abbreviations.

Read 'em all.

Thank you, dear MNters, for a good laugh! I'm sitting in bed, with a comatose cat, feeling full of cold and not very warm, due to not wanting to push up the electricity bill. The thread made me LOL+++,

It's 'etc' not 'ect', btw (by the way). That is, 'etcetera', meaning 'and so on ...'. Please get your abbreviations correct if you're going to criticise people for using abbreviations at all.

BarbaraHoward · 22/12/2024 22:52

Hey, hey guys? Has anyone explained to OP yet that it's etc not ect? Anyone?
