People turning up without warning- rude?

I find this behaviour rude and thoughtless. As the homeowners may have plans themselves or in the midst of a cooking marathon esp this time of the year.

Be nicer for them to message/call saying are you available to have a chat as in the area etc.

If you are one of those people who turn up at others without informing them first. Why do you do it?

Well I’m more than happy for someone to ring on my doorbell, that’s what it’s for! If it’s not convenient I could always just not open it 😂
I don’t really drop in on others except mil and my mum but they live close together and also on my way to a supermarket at their end of town - both seem happy with me calling in, if they don’t answer it’s no bother, if they do then it’s a nice bonus.
Some people are so uptight, I’m glad people know they can call in here.

My exH's family had form for doing this. Admittedly this was back in the days before mobile phones, but we had a landline phone, and so did they. So no excuse not to phone first. I think they thought it would be a 'nice surprise',but it used to really piss me off. I wouldn't have dreamt of doing the same to them.

Did you never feel able to politely say ‘sorry, not now, I’m busy’.

It was perfectly normal when I was growing up... and you couldn't just not answer the door, because if the door happened to be locked, we all had keys for each other's houses. (Disclaimer: we all lived within three miles, and other people found it odd that we'd just walk in and make ourselves at home).

It is much easier now that I live sufficiently far away, because they call to make sure I am around before travelling the 1.5 hour distance, even though I live in a place where you don't actually need to lock your doors.

Good grief, I couldn't live like that. Supposing someone was in the middle of having sex/on the toilet/walking around naked at the time?
