To say your engagement ring goes on your finger first and THEN your wedding ring?

So, just that. As you'd have your engagement ring on already at the altar and then your wedding ring goes on, surely?

A quick glance around shows others have it the other way around Confused

Wear it the way you want it and don’t stress about what other people do. It’s just a convention to have the wedding ring on first but don’t make a big issue of it.

ExpatForLife · 21/12/2024 20:58

My engagement ring has always been a bit loose so my wedding band is on the outside to serve as a guard. Number of people who have commented in 25 years: 0.

Londonrach1 · 21/12/2024 21:01

Wedding first but honestly it doesn't matter whatever works for you

drspouse · 21/12/2024 21:02

Mine does but only because I've lost weight since getting married and the engagement ring is looser.

JaceLancs · 21/12/2024 21:04

I never took my wedding ring off ever until I got divorced - my DM has been wearing hers for 65 years!
Eternity ring next if you have one then engagement ring last

TryingToStayAwake88 · 21/12/2024 21:39

I take off my wedding, engagement and eternity ring when I'm baking etc and then just shove them back on in the order I pick them up. So I couldn't even tell you what order they are currently on my finger without looking.

pollypocket90 · 21/12/2024 21:43

I had my engagement ring on first then wedding band... just makes sense being in order to me!

Tessiebear2023 · 21/12/2024 21:55

I feel sad about you all wearing the same rings every. day. In the same order - yikes. Don't you ever want a change?? I'm so glad I've never married, different cocktail ring every day for me, no shits given.

This is a joke post BTW, no offence intended.

I wear the same engagement ring and wedding ring every day on that one finger, and all sorts of different jewellery on my other fingers/wrist/ears/neck!

rightoguvnor · 21/12/2024 22:04

I also wear my engagement ring first as it's a bit loose. TBHi wouldn't grieve too much if I lost the wedding ring - it's a 1980s Argos special so it's seen a bit of wear
The engagement ring though, I still check the claws are all in place and tight.

Same…and this is possibly a bit outing but owing to a language mix up when my husband ordered my eternity ring (we lived in Asia at the time) I have two eternity rings, so there is probably some formulae I can use to work out all the permutations I could have them in, but they’re rarely in the same order from one day to the next.

ItsJustLittleOldMe · 21/12/2024 23:13

Nope I wear them in the order I was given them, engagement ring, wedding ring, eternity ring. Makes me happy, literally makes no difference to anyone else so I don’t see why it matters.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 21/12/2024 23:16

I put my engagement ring on the other hand for the ceremony so wedding, engagement then eternity. I can't get my wedding ring off after 31 years so I won't change it now.

kennycat · 21/12/2024 23:32

Since the wedding ring is blessed by the priest (in a religious ceremony obv) it should be closest to your heart ie first.
For the ceremony you generally put the engagement ring on your other hand.
I do see your logic though!

Tortoisema · 22/12/2024 04:39

It’s your finger and your rings - wear them how YOU like.

Donnah85587 · 22/12/2024 05:55

I wear my engagement ring 1st then my wedding band and there's no other reason behind it other than it's more comfortable on my finger that way. Do whatever makes you happy and comfortable! X

scrivette · 22/12/2024 06:01

I also wear it the 'wrong' way around as it looks better due to the shape of my rings.

littlemissalwaystired · 22/12/2024 06:39

Wedding ring underneath for me as a) I just think it looks better but b) mainly because I can't wear my engagement ring to work so it's easier.

LoudPlumDog · 22/12/2024 06:43

Other way around. Wedding ring stays on always, engagement ring on and off when you go out.

CarolSwimmer · 22/12/2024 06:55

It's the other way around

However, my engagement ring is a bit bigger/looser and also a bit more valuable! So I wear it first with my wedding ring acting as a bodyguard to.keep it safe!

sesquipedalian · 22/12/2024 06:59

My DD was married last week - she put her engagement ring on the other hand so her husband could put the wedding ring on her finger. Her wedding ring is shaped to go under her engagement ring - I’ve never seen a wedding ring shaped to go over an engagement ring!

buttonousmaximous · 22/12/2024 07:39

My wedding and engagement ring fit together the wedding ring goes on first

ForGreyKoala · 22/12/2024 07:48

The wedding ring is the first one on as it usually doesn't get taken off. If it was on last you would be continually taking it off to get the engagement ring off. It's just common sense.

mitogoshigg · 22/12/2024 08:03

On your wedding day yes, but afterwards it's the other way around because there's circumstances where you may just wear a wedding ring but fancier rings would be a problem eg I don't wear my engagement ring if riding the motorcycle because it catches on the gloves

WinnerwinnerGinfordinner · 22/12/2024 08:09

I have my engagement ring on first but only because I lost weight after getting engaged so my wedding ring is a size smaller and I feel.more secure that way round (not that my engagement ring is big enough to fall off but I know my wedding ring isn't going anywhere). Although both of my rings are very narrow and simple though because I have small fingers and wide bands look weird in me so you can't even really tell which way round they are
