To say your engagement ring goes on your finger first and THEN your wedding ring?

So, just that. As you'd have your engagement ring on already at the altar and then your wedding ring goes on, surely?

A quick glance around shows others have it the other way around Confused

No, sorry. Engagement ring off during the wedding until the wedding one goes on. Wedding ring, engagement ring, eternity ring on top if you have one.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/12/2024 14:47

No you take your engagement ring off and put it on other hand when you get married. I get what you’re saying though

Dwappy · 20/12/2024 14:48

I was told the wedding band goes on first so it means your wedding ring is closest to your heart.

Yes this.

wedding ring closest to your heart.

BendingSpoons · 20/12/2024 14:48

Convention is wedding ring on first. Closer to you heart or something apparently!

Chocaholic1216 · 20/12/2024 14:48

It makes sense to do it that way but it’s traditionally meant to be the wedding band on first and the engagement ring above it. On my wedding day I took my engagement ring off that morning so the wedding ring could be put on during the ceremony

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/12/2024 14:48

Nope, you take the engagement ring off for the wedding and put the wedding ring on the bare finger- put the engagement ring back on later. A plainer wedding ring works so you never have to take your wedding ring off, I will often take my engagement ring off for baking or gardening, but as I don’t have to take my wedding ring off to do that, the wedding ring stays on.

NamelessNinja · 20/12/2024 14:48

YABU. That's not the traditional way to wear them. I worked in a jewellers selling rings for years and it always looks wrong to me when people do this. Wear engagement ring on the other hand for the ceremony.

AddictedToBooks · 20/12/2024 14:49

My wedding ring sits underneath my engagement ring. I think it's personal preference though. I wear mine like my Nanna wore hers.

tuvamoodyson · 20/12/2024 14:49

Wedding ring, eternity ring in the middle then engagement ring for me.

jinglejanglejo · 20/12/2024 14:50

OMG I've been wearing it wrong 😑

Rarely wear my engagement ring but, when I do, it is on second.

Mrsttcno1 · 20/12/2024 14:51

Yeah you don’t have your engagement ring on for the wedding, you take it off, wedding ring on, then engagement ring back on.

Didn’t you take your engagement ring off to get married?

Agreed

Teisen1990 · 20/12/2024 14:52

Does it matter though?
Wear it whatever way you like best- no one else is even looking at your rings

OAPapparently · 20/12/2024 14:53

I have my wedding ring first then my engagement ring. The shape of my engagement ring makes the rings feel strange the other way around.

magicalmrmistoffelees · 20/12/2024 14:54

Traditionally your wedding ring goes on first. Realistically, wear them how you want, very few people actually give a shit (I was going to say no one gives a shit, then realise that you do because you started this thread 😁)

TeenToTwenties · 20/12/2024 14:54

I only wear my engagement ring when going somewhere fancy. Definitely wedding ring first.

JellycatEgg · 20/12/2024 14:54

Definitely wedding ring first, but I always thought it was because people take their engagement ring on and off more (eg for practical reasons if its a big stone), whereas wedding ring stays on.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/12/2024 14:54

I always thought you had your wedding ring on first, then the engagement ring, because the engagement ring often had to come off (when doing messy jobs or anything that might endanger the stones) while the wedding ring stayed on all the time. So you could take off and put on your engagement ring without messing with the wedding ring.

Crojo · 20/12/2024 14:55

Another reason I heard that it was wedding ring first is due to the fact many people never take their wedding ring off, whereas engagement rings are often removed for cleaning and things.

AhhSalmonSkinRoll · 20/12/2024 14:56

Well I took my engagement ring off to get married, wedding ring went on. Later in day I took wedding ring back off, put engagement ring back on first then wedding ring on second... 🤷‍♀️

Shinyandnew1 · 20/12/2024 14:57

No, take engagement ring off for the wedding then put it back on afterwards on top.

It’s practical as well-you can leave the wedding ring on all the time but take the engagement ring off to polish the stone! Or if you’re doing something where it might get damaged/dirty.

AhhSalmonSkinRoll · 20/12/2024 14:57

Feel I made it more complicated than it needed to be 😆
