Bullseye coming back has made me think this .

These are the programs I’d like to see shown again:

Winner Takes All
Generation Game
Punchlines
Krypton Factor
Crackerjack
Ever Decreasing Circles
Terry and June
A Fine Romance
There’s No Place Like Home
3-2-1

I apologise - some programmes above are ‘ones for the teenagers’

Am in a hotel and just discovered to my joy the first episode of Bit of a Do was on London Live. A weird childhood favourite!

I caught that on tv (yes, the TV I watch🙄🙄). I must look it up as I hadn't seen it before was it 80's tv? I'm all over 70's tv.🤣. I was little & my mum went to work in the evenings (data operator not on the streets!!) so my Dad was in charge & let me stay up to watch 8pm tv🤣

George & Mildred/Good life, on the busses type stuff... loved it.

but hadnt seen 'bit of a do' before.

I remember enjoying 'Shine on Harvey Moon'.
I see there are episodes on youtube, I must rewatch it!

I also liked 'A Family at War'.

AKASammyScrounge · 12/12/2024 02:43

Cagney and Lacy
The Forsyte Saga
The Liverbirds
Prime Suspect

charabang · 12/12/2024 06:09

As a Midlander I would love to rewatch The Grimleys with Amanda Holden and Noddy Holder. Also liked The House of Eliot and Angels.

MrsSethGecko · 12/12/2024 07:03

@charabang the Grimleys is on YouTube! Gordon, do yow need the toilet?

I saw the house of Eliot recently!

it’s amazing how a couple of bars of the theme tune and you know it

i know I sound 102 , but they don’t make sit coms like those of the 90’s anymore. I’m not sure there’s the sit down pull of tv anymore to make them successful, but they were great.

We have Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes on DVD and have rewatched a few times. Probably not as often as you though Grin

One of our regular rewatches is Spooks. Still brilliant. I felt series 9 went off a cliff a bit, but series 10 redeemed itself slightly and the film was good. I could watch the lovely Peter Firth till the cows come home!

Ha! Yes, it's become a bit of a tradition now! We started Spooks but I got a bit bored with it after a while! I think my husband's watched it a coupe of times though :)

Auburngal · 12/12/2024 07:15

I loved Duchess of Duke Street and Fall of Eagles

Great thread. I grew up in the 80s and watched a lot of TV. Loved all the half hour sitcoms, I didn’t find them hilariously funny, but more comforting and soothing.

Friday afternoons it changed from Thames TV to LWT and that was the start of the weekend. Me and My Girl was on then also Play your cards right.

Saturday teatime - Worzel Gummidge and the Muppet Show.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the comforting and soothing comment. That's certainly how we've felt when we've rewatched several of the old comedies. Me and My Girl was excellent. I used to hide behind the sofa at my nan and gramp's on a Sunday evening because The Muppet Show was always on immediately after The Incredible Hulk and I HATED him, he was so scary. My brother would watch that show so I had no choice (my 4-year-old self didn't think just to leave the room!).

I've got Sky Glass and on voice command I said a TV show or an actor and they tell me if its available to watch and which channel/on demand platform it is.

Completely agree with you @BourbonsAreOverated .

I've been humming the theme tunes to loads of these programmes mentioned after remembering them here.

French and Saunders' portrayal of House of Elliott was funny. - House of Idiot.

Figmentofmyimagination · 12/12/2024 08:00

I was recently reminiscing about the wonderful theme tune to Howard’s Way so I watched a couple of clips. Omg the hair and clothes. Very good way to make you feel old and realise how much time has passed! Great music though.

A wave of nostalgic sadness and grief washed over me listening to that.

I love thinking about the past, but it makes me sad at the same time. We can never go back to the greatest days of our lives and the best we've got to come will never live up to the memories of gold we grip onto so tightly.

So I ask..

Have you ever, ever felt like this?

Oh I liked The Grimleys too. I think we had a CD with a lot of the music from there, the 1970s stuff is our era!

Also as a Slade fan I loved that Noddy Holder was in it.

I prefer it to the actual version! Jennifer Saunders looks uncannily like Stella Gonnet's character (whose name I cannot remember and cba to Google). "Would you step into my office please" 🤭.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 12/12/2024 09:09

@5foot5 I loved it too and Brian Conley as the psycho PE teacher. I remember how much Noddy allowed himself to be set up in the jokes, one scene where he was trying to compose an Easter song with the lyrics "so here it is happy Easter".

Glad it's not just me. The Blockbusters tune will not leave my head now, I'm wandering about going do do do do do, do do dooooooo.

my kids binge watched round the twist a few years ago.
we had cabbage the other night and it came up in conversation!!

getahhtmapub · 12/12/2024 10:40

I'd love an evening of
Blankety Blanket (Wogan)
Treasure Hunt (Annika Rice)
The Price is Right
321
Spitting Image
Bread
That's My Boy!
Finishing off with
Roseanne
The Golden Girls
Cheers.

Yes I know the last ones are US (but reminds me of the best Friday nights ever when I was allowed to stay up late) and most are dreadful (the sitcoms and 321 notably) but they are all so comforting and remind me of snuggly warm, beige interior houses with a hot cuppa and a chocolate digestive on the go. The whole house watching and knowing that the vast majority of the rest of the country were watching too.

Yes you’ve absolutely nailed the emotions associated with these sorts of programs !

I agree with all your TV choices especially Wogan with the exception of Anneka and the US programs !
