Not going to name any specific women actors but I was just looking at one of my fave comedians whose just had a face full of fillers and she just didn't look great. She was about the same age as me (early 50s) and my friends and none of them have had anything done, (well maybe a little but it's not obvious if they have), but they all great and I'd be really shocked if any of them started to go down the route of such extreme fillers / botox etc.

I'm not saying I look like I've fallen into the fountain of youth, far from it, but I look, for want of a better word, normal.

I do get there is so much pressure on women in the public eye but after a certain stage of procedures it doesn't make anyone look any younger and just starts to make people look weird.

Sigourney Weaver was on Graham Norton the other night and looked incredible...so beautifully natural. I've also been watching Slow Horses and Kristen Scott Thomas is just stunning, not a procedure in sight and minimal make up.

It's a shame they are in the minority and are not the norm for females in the oublic eye. They are wondeful role models for ageing gracefully and naturally.

A PP mentioned Joan Collins, I saw her a few weeks ago in her show, I'm not sure what she's had done but for 91 she was fabulous and so sharp and witty.

I think there’s a sweet spot where lots of work is usually an improvement - would I like to look like Nicole Kidman at 70 as she does now? (Know she’s not 70 yet) Hell yes, if a toss up between this & saggy crone, crepey & old dumpy womanish in MS polyester in Lidl aisles.

Victoria B not an actress but she’s 50 & looks incredible. Look at her Spice Girl audition tapes. Fab work or is it the fish ;) Seriously, she looks amazing.

See I don't agree with this at all. Nicole Kidman looks like a waxwork, plus she's not even 60 let alone 70! A lot will change in that decade.
I saw a picture of Victoria Beckham at the State dinner, I thought her face looked abnormal with how much filler she has had. She has an overfilled top lip which now juts out into a shelf.
I much prefer to see women who have aged without cosmetic work. I like seeing old TV and films where the actors have normal expressive faces. I also noticed many more normally aging faces in french or Scandinavian TV or films, I assume they don't go for the excess fillers and Botox that UK and US actors seem to prefer.
I do think your social circle affects how you feel about it too. Not one of my friends or siblings( aged 55 to mid 60s) has had any work done and I would be extremely surprised if they ever did. We are all ageing and I think their faces look the same as they did 30 years ago, just more lines, they are no less beautiful. But we aren't the types to think that younger equals better.

Looks to me like ageism and misogyny: "saggy crone, crepey & old dumpy womanish in MS polyester in Lidl aisles"

Well, I'm definitely not that ;)

I want to look at natural faces. I'm so bored.

To me it screams of insecurity (and I know these older actresses aren't really free to make any other decision), but I hate it, on a personal level and at a societal level. Just stop.

I just want to look at beautiful faces. I'm so bored of all the women growing old naturally and not making any effort.

Sound like a prick, don't I?

Delatron · 09/12/2024 22:05

I agree on the whole. Most famous people are under immense pressure to look good and seem to lose a sense of perspective.

However, I think we are recently finally seeing some good work. Mainly very expensive face lifts (rather than filler.) See Lindsay Lohan, Demi Moore, Brad Pitt. And probably many other celebs who look unbelievably good for their age.

Maybe things are shifting.

Are you joking about Vicky B? She's got a massive fuck off duck lip sticking right out. David looks like David Guest in the Ninja ads, he needs to lay off the fillers too.

UnderTheStairs51 · 09/12/2024 22:07

Some do it very well but even then it has limits.

Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, Kylie all looked absolutely amazing at 50.

But you can't stay looking 30 forever and it must be very hard to age when everyone has spent years commenting that you don't age.

Trying to maintain it over 50 seems to go wrong.

Julia Roberts doesn't seem to have succumbed to the fillers though sure there's other work but she looks amazing.

The trouble is they don't get parts as normal looking 50 plus women so who can blame them.

mitogoshigg · 09/12/2024 22:11

Fillers generally look horrible, lips in particular look terrible. Like someone else commented, carrying a little more weight would solve most of the issues of wrinkles, not obese just a size 10.

User14March · 09/12/2024 22:15

Kristen Scott Thomas is & was one of the most beautiful & elegant women to grace the planet. I’d be surprised if she’d done ‘nothing’ but with that bone structure who needs work.

@ISeriouslyDoubtIt I hear you & I think without googling NK is pushing 60 & about 56. I’ve seen NK & sister recently in flesh & both are fit, statuesque & very elegant. Does Nicole look superficially better than 90 per cent of average 55 year olds IMHO deffo, yes! ‘Halloween mask’ or not. Some might even argue Nicole’s early surgery took her from averagely facially pretty, despite star quality, model figure & leading lady charisma to one who’d get the plum roles & way beyond averagely attractive. She has a glacial beauty.

Ditto Victoria B even with arguably an overfilled lip does she look better than her Adidas tee shirt Spice Girl audition, hell yeah & she’s elegant & her skin quality like glass.

stripeyshutters · 09/12/2024 22:18

ToBeOrNotToBee · 09/12/2024 21:37

I do think alot of the mature celebs would look so much better if they carried a bit more weight.
Natural filler in their cheeks instead of all that crap they inject.

The problem is the fat pads drop in your face as you age. Carrying more weight doesn't stop that.

User14March · 09/12/2024 22:18

@UnderTheStairs51 the thing is after 50 the menopause really kicks in & collagen depletes. It usually becomes MUCH harder to look good/‘young’ etc.

KnittedCardi · 09/12/2024 22:19

I'd rather look like Isabella Rosselini at 70 or Judith Dench at 90, than Nicole Kidman at 57, my age now. They were both blessed with good genes, but look normal, beautiful, aged women. I aspire to be like them.

stripeyshutters · 09/12/2024 22:20

Ohnonotmeagain · 09/12/2024 21:40

I would just like to say Pamela Anderson.

bloody amazing woman. Looks amazing too, despite not conforming to Hollywood pressure.

clearly she felt the pressure as a young actress but happy for her that she can embrace her looks now.

She really doesn't. I think she's being held up as some icon because of not wearing make up blah blah ..

Radishknot · 09/12/2024 22:23

Thing is if they are surrounded by everyone doing it it becomes their normal.

I reckon Brooke probably looks amazing in real life.

Victoria B not an actress but she’s 50 & looks incredible. Look at her Spice Girl audition tapes. Fab work or is it the fish ;) Seriously, she looks amazing.

Not to me.

Interesting you think they both look "better". I don't think they do because in my opinion " better" as you age means lines and wrinkles commensurate with the age you are and the life experience you've acquired, your face being capable of showing all emotions, not an unnaturally smooth and expressionless appearance.

User14March · 09/12/2024 22:28

Trinny Woodall I think looks amazing at 60 plus. I don’t think she’s had a facelift just ‘tweaks’ & her ‘get up & go’ is enviable!

Caroline Stanbury had a good face lift before 50, not sure she needed it.

I think being on screen potentially problematic as you can look facially fine in the mirror & baggy, crepey saggy & lined on the big screen or even on a humble Teams meeting. Influencers etc I think sometimes overdo filler etc as you then look perfect on TicTok etc but overdone in real life.

Reveny · 09/12/2024 22:29

I heard that madonna looks amazing in real life, but in photos i always try to imagine how she would have looked if she had no work done.

User14March · 09/12/2024 22:35

@ISeriouslyDoubtIt I see what you mean but for many that means looking like a decrepit, jowly, potatoey, lined crone :) With little elegance.

If I look like Kristen Scott T at her age I’d be thrilled however. I think Victoria B is objectively a very attractive 50 plus as are all the ‘Spice Girls’ now who all seem v fit too. ££ undoubtedly helps in the ageing journey. Stress is very ageing.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/12/2024 22:37

Demi Moore looks amazing almost 20 years younger than 62 imo

WindyRedAlert · 09/12/2024 22:40

Cher looks amazing

User14March · 09/12/2024 22:42

@PrincessHoneysuckle you’re right & she’s often held as gold standard by women seeking ‘work’. I expect the best ‘work’ is prohibitively expensive & surgeons booked for years unless you have clout. Cheap work shows.

Interesting that apparently Madonna looks good in real life! I think being very physically fit into your 60s/70s/80s makes you appear much younger in the flesh. The way you move counts for a lot.

User14March · 09/12/2024 22:43

@WindyRedAlert it’s a ‘look’ re: Cher, ditto Dolly Parton.

LadyHester · 09/12/2024 22:44

Women in the media have to go down the tweakment or more route if they want to stay working.
Otherwise, it makes me furious that for women we equate looking good with looking young when no sich pressure exists for men.
As does the way young women feel they need to adopt this identikit waxy-faced duck-lipped look.
It’s hard to believe in feminist advances when one considers the pain and expense women go to in order to conform to the expectations as to how they should look.

Lindsay Lohan is 38, FFS. She’s hardly in the same age bracket as Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Brad Pitt etc.

Courtney Cox is another one who looks very strange now.
