Sorry to post here!! I have a male relative that has been harrassing us (I live with my mom), he tried to break in a few weeks ago, police were called. They've said that if he comes again then to call 999. The door is knocking but I can't see out of the window if it's him and I can't see his car. It's not the wind as the door knocker hasn't wen't all day. Not sure if I should call the police in this instance

Yes it does but it also has glass panels so I'd be seen walking towards it

If the door is securely locked and the door chain on, check the rest of your doors/windows are secure, then ignore it and go to bed. Take your phone with you.

If the knocking continues beyond a few minutes, call the police

WearyAuldWumman · 08/12/2024 01:54

You could phone the police: explain that you are women on your own; someone is knocking at this ungodly hour and you're frightened that it's an intruder since you're not expecting anyone.

OytheBumbler · 08/12/2024 01:54

Don't think I'd answer at this time of night if I didn't know who was there.

Chain is on and all doors and windows are locked. The knocking has been going on for over half an hour

Oh I see - are you in the UK? If so it’s rather late to answer the door anyway. If they presist call the police and explain the situation

CandyCaneSpoon · 08/12/2024 01:56

Check out the window? And im surprised in this situation you haven't invested in a ring doorbell

I can't see out of the window who is at the door unless they stand back

Is your mom home?

26YearOldFailure · 08/12/2024 01:58

Said male relative has been in and out of prison as well for violent crimes. On one hand I want to call the police but then on the other I don't want to waste their time incase it WAS the wind

Could it be your mum?

GrumpyPanda · 08/12/2024 02:00

Call them. Better safe than sorry.

heartbroken22 · 08/12/2024 02:00

For your safety call the police. Call your neighbours too.

Zapx · 08/12/2024 02:01

Do you have any friends locally? If so could they maybe do a drive-by?
Failing that I’d ring the police

SmashedBaubles · 08/12/2024 02:01

The wind has definitely got worse over the last hour where I am. Bins blowing over all over the place.

Bit odd someone would be outside knocking for half an hour, especially as this person tried to break in before so likely wouldn’t bother knocking?

Can you not see the front of your house from an upstairs window?

I’d be inclined to go to the door and look through the peephole saying loudly that you have the police on the line who are on their way, and have a look. Keep the light off in the doorway while you do it. If you see him, obviously actually call the police.

Hoardasurass · 08/12/2024 02:01

@26YearOldFailure if it's been going on for over half an hour call the police even if it's 101 and check the peephole whilst your on the phone with them, that way you and they will know if it's him or not

Pinkpurpletulips · 08/12/2024 02:03

Phone the police. He's not giving up. My mother was once in a similar situation but she passed the time heating the poker red hot. The local yokel who'd taken fancy to my mother had the luckiest escape of his life when he couldn't manage to pry open a window.

Tomorrow, see if you can put something like carboard over to obscure the glass panels till you can get a ring doorbell thing installed.

He always comes at really late times when he know's we'll be home.

can't see the front from upstairs, live in a maisonnette

I would probably call 999.

Consider getting a camera
