Sorry to post here!! I have a male relative that has been harrassing us (I live with my mom), he tried to break in a few weeks ago, police were called. They've said that if he comes again then to call 999. The door is knocking but I can't see out of the window if it's him and I can't see his car. It's not the wind as the door knocker hasn't wen't all day. Not sure if I should call the police in this instance

The knocking has actually stopped (for now) if it starts again then I will be phoning them.

I keep a bowl of water under the letrer box because I know he would kill us given the chance

Are they still knocking or has it stopped? If stopped I'd go to bed but if still knocking phone 999. Really sorry must be so scary. In fact just call 999 anyway I couldn't settle knowing they may be out there.

SmashedBaubles · 08/12/2024 02:07

And yes, hopefully it is just the wind but definitely get a video doorbell immediately tomorrow. Argos do them and places like B&Q too.

Also useful as evidence that he came to the property and you can record any interaction without opening or going near the door.

26YearOldFailure · 08/12/2024 02:08

With regards to ring doorbell, we have one on the way

Honestly terrified. Any time the door knocks my heart starts racing and I start shaking

And please change your username. No one is a failure at 26! You have a whole life ahead of you.

Have you and your mum thought about moving? You shouldn’t have to live in fear.

Thank you for your encouraging words, it means a lot. Currently going through a difficult time.

Yes, we want to move. I'm not working at the moment (redundancy) so not sure we can until we have my income as well unfortunately

Sounds so scary. Is it a rhythmic knock, or more random sounds.

KittenPause · 08/12/2024 02:12

I'd be terrified too

If the person knocking doesn’t say who they are especially at this time of night then yes call the police

KittenPause · 08/12/2024 02:14

Every time someone knocks on my door I ask who it is

Not so much during the day if I'm expecting a delivery but definitely once it's dark

Marcipex · 08/12/2024 02:15

Has the noise started again, or stopped?
Don’t be afraid to ring 999.
Also, you should keep a diary of any events.
You really need to plan to move. Could you contact Womens Aid.

Yes, it was rhythmic, I think I also heard knocking on the glass

It's stopped for about 20 minutes now. Started about 1:20. Yes I have notes of each incident. The police said last time that they will be arresting him but no idea if he's been arrested yet

You poor thing- are they knocking now or was it a one off noise you heard? It's so stormy tonight- given there must be a massive backstory I would call the police now- you deserve a peaceful nights sleep and I don't think you will get that until someone checks around your house. Hope things work out x

It was consistent for over half an hour! Yes massive backstory but too much to get into. I might call the non emergency and see what they say

What kind of property do you live in? Could someone enter from the back or side?

Actually I’d call the police too considering the threat sounds extremely high risk. I don’t think the police carrying out a check of the area would be wasting their time.

Liveafr · 08/12/2024 02:23

A very wise friend told me: in case you're not sure, always call the police, it will be their job to know/check if the call was needed or not and what they must do.
And don't let anyone make you feel you are a failure.

SmashedBaubles · 08/12/2024 02:25

Call 999. The risk warrants it and it may take ages to get through on 101 in the early hours of a weekend morning just before Christmas with bad weather as well.

It's a maisonnette so you can only get in through the front door, we don't have a garden. You'd have to climb the building to reach the first window. Just don't want to waste police time since he's probably gone now
