Is this feminism?

I've just read about a 23 year old who comes from a wealthy background and plans to sleep with 1,000 men in 24 hrs.

In the article*, she calls herself a feminist and says she feels empowered.

I don't understand why this woman wants to do this. I can obviously understand the financial aspect but she talks about the event taking place in a warehouse with men coming in one door and leaving out the other.

I'm obviously behind the times because when I was that age, women didn't aspire to live stream themselves having sex with countless men.

I'm wondering what the hell has happened for women to choose to do this and think it's empowering. These women have the support of their families which I also don't understand.

She is being interviewed on the event and describes herself as a feminist. It's natural to conclude that she sees what she does as feminist and as she says, 'empowering'.

You brought up the men, not me.

Yes you did. You said ‘have any respect for her’.

Who cares what they think?

You said this:

The 1000 men are not dignified or respected either. They are a faceless, trailing mass getting a kick for 1.44 mins each.

Do you think she respects these men either? Doubtful.

My point is you said who cares what the men think. I didn't bring up the men, you did. I replied to your post saying that the men are not claiming that having sex with her is a feminist act.

The point regarding dignity and respect was made in relation to feminism.

Feminism is the equality between men and women. Men are part of the conversation whether you like it or not.

So you do care what men think or you're arguing for the sake of it?

Feminism is a women’s and a men’s issue. Hence if you’re describing it as a specifically anti-feminist act, then yes, it matters what both men and women think.

I do not ‘care’ what they think, but you can’t declare something a societal ‘ism’ or non ‘ism’ without the opinions of the society that created it.

HeartOfChocolate · 07/12/2024 16:06

I do not have an opinion on the matter, only here to suggest doubling or tripling up at a time if technically possible. It will be a long day at work, regardless.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/12/2024 16:13

In the article, she calls herself a feminist and says she feels empowered.

Both these things can be true @username299 . She, as an individual adult woman can feel empowered by this, and let's face it, having millions of £££ is empowering. She can also be a feminist.🤷‍♀️

Feminism is about equality, dignity and respect for women.

What's so dignified about a thousand men using your body as a fleshlight? Do you believe these men see her as an equal and respect her?

Feminism is not about the sexual objectification of women, it's the opposite. It's not about catering to men and their desires, it's the opposite.

Sounds like you have pretty ridged views about what women should and should not do.
Are you a feminist?

Having sex in a warehouse with 1,000 men is not a feminist act. Feminism isn't amorphous, it doesn't just mean whatever you want it to mean.

Sleeping with 1000 men in 24 hours is not feminism but bit*inism and stupidism

IdaGlossop · 07/12/2024 16:43

This may seem to her now to be a good idea, especially the £££s, but I wonder how she will feel about herself in 10/20/30 years time.

Nobody said it was a feminist act. IIRC, I specifically said that it wasn't a feminist act upthread.

No feminist is perfect. No feminist does only feminist acts and makes only feminist choices. They're still feminists.

Are you a feminist @username299?

My thread is about whether or not this kind of event and in a larger context, the sexualisation of women on Onlyfans and social media is feminism.

In the interview on this event, the woman says she's a feminist and finds what she does empowering.

People on this thread have said that sex work is feminism.

My thread isn't about whether or not every action a feminist does is feminism. My thread is about whether having sex with 1,000 men is feminism.

IMO you don't call yourself 100% percent feminist and then treat yourself with such disrespect. IMO it's not empowering to be sexually objectified. It's not empowering to debase yourself.

The woman doing the event is a feminist.
Sex workers can be feminists.

Are you a feminist yourself @username299?

No this not feminism. I even think that some feminist women may feel angry and ashamed when hear some other women who called herself feminist was acting like prostitute as feminism is fighting for women rights and respect too

Why title the post ‘Is this feminism?’ when you have clearly made up your mind what is feminism and what isn’t?

Seems like you only started the thread in hope that you could get a group of women bashing this woman. How feminist of you.

I believe that should be at the core of the feminist movement. A woman's right to be treated with equality, dignity and respect.

It isn't obvious to me. If you are a feminist why do you think you have the right to gatekeep feminism?

If you are not a feminist, are you here trying to shame feminists and sex workers?

SidhuVicious · 07/12/2024 17:27

I think it's bonkers tbh. Interestingly, were it reversed a lot if people would probs think 'lucky guy'.
