Parents are bringing the wreath in daily?

I went to visit parents and they’ve been wringing their light up wreath in daily from the front of the house. It cost them £60 and they think someone might steal it from the most rural and quiet area ever. Aibu for telling them it’s stupid.

Sensible. Mine got stolen a few years ago so I don't bother anymore.

fungibletoken · 05/12/2024 22:19

£60 - fair dos! We got a new one this year and DH asked if I thought we should bring it in at night. It cost all of about £5 from Aldi 😅

Amba1998 · 05/12/2024 22:20

It’s not harming anyone?

they do get stolen

Ggmores · 05/12/2024 22:21

Just let them get on with it!

crumblingschools · 05/12/2024 22:22

Why do you think it’s stupid?

Frozensun · 05/12/2024 22:23

You’d tell them it’s stupid - really? How does it impact you?

Scutterbug · 05/12/2024 22:23

Some have been stolen round here. If I had spent £60 on one, I would bring it in!

Littletreefrog · 05/12/2024 22:23

As long as they are not endangering themselves in anyway by doing it leave them to it. We can't have one as our door is straight into the street and the area where we live it wouldn't last 2 minutes. What's really annoying is they probably wouldn't even steal it to use or sell they would just trash it for the sake of it

AlwaysFreezing · 05/12/2024 22:24

Ach, sometimes it's kinder to agree with them than make them feel stupid. This is one of those times.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/12/2024 22:25

YABU because in the event, however unlikely or not, that it does get stolen then you'll feel pretty daft and owe them a £60 wreath.

Differentstarts · 05/12/2024 22:26

Does it really matter. If it makes them more comfortable let them get on with it

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 05/12/2024 22:26

I've had wreaths stolen in the past, and other outdoor decorations, but always in broad daylight!
They are not being stupid about this, but perhaps you are a bit fed up with them in other ways.

ManhattanPopcorn · 05/12/2024 22:26

There was a thread here one Christmas where someone had put together a distinctive homemade wreath which was stolen off their door only to reappear on the front door of the neighbor across the street.

JengaJungle · 05/12/2024 22:27

I thought this was going to be a sad post. I read that parents were bringing wrath into the home daily.
Relieved it's just a bit of foliage.

Octonaut4Life · 05/12/2024 22:27

It's absolute madness to spend that much money on basically giving yourself an admin task to do every evening! YANBU OP that is totally ridiculous. If you're worried your wreath might get stolen just get a cheap one!

LoopyLooooo · 05/12/2024 22:27

Of all the things to

A. Poke your nose into.
B. Start a nose poke thread about.

😂🎄🎅

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 05/12/2024 22:29

I also heard of someone who set out a nice lunch for herself in the garden one summer, popped inside to answer the phone and came out to find it all gone, even the cutlery and the salt cellar.

WalterdelaMare · 05/12/2024 22:29

I’d rather not have one than have to go to the bother of taking it in each night.

An 'admin task' 🙄

I'm sure they're perfectly happy to spend 2 minutes doing this, otherwise they wouldn't.

My friend is bringing a family of enormous light up reindeer in every night.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/12/2024 22:29

I think it's dafter to bang out sixty notes on a ring of plastic ivy and some LEDs. However, once somebody's done that, it would be pretty silly to leave it where anybody who fancied wearing a crown on the way home from the pub or flogging it to a random for twenty quid could just lift if off the door.

That's very kind of her.

Does she know them? 😁

twentysevendresses · 05/12/2024 22:31

Mine was stolen today 😢 It had only been on my door for a day! Very rural Lincolnshire, on a tiny road that you wouldn't know was there if you sneezed as you drove past it!

Utter scrotes! 😟

BerriesCones · 05/12/2024 22:32

I remember Ellie or issie from gogglebox saying their light up reindeer got stolen

msbevvy · 05/12/2024 22:34

It depends where they live.

People who have potted plants in their front gardens round our way run a very high risk of them being stolen. An expensive wreath would probably last about 5 minutes.
