Parents are bringing the wreath in daily?

I went to visit parents and they’ve been wringing their light up wreath in daily from the front of the house. It cost them £60 and they think someone might steal it from the most rural and quiet area ever. Aibu for telling them it’s stupid.

My Halloween skeleton (£3 from Tiger) was stolen from my front door so I say bring it in.I have a wreath but I've tied it with wire to the hook and now have a ring doorbell so at least I can watch it being nicked.

My door wreath is made from razor cut flexible metal was originally to go around a light . Really sharp if the fuckers try & nick it they will cut their hands. All with the joy of Christmas. Season of giving 🎁

Love it! Merry Christmas, you filthy animals!

I think this is a great idea. I hope there’s a sense of occasion and ritual each evening.

You mother checks what time the sunset will be. As the moment approaches, your father plays his recording of the last post as he and you mother walk quietly and solemnly to the front door. Your mother stands to attention as your father opens the front door. They both look at the wreath. Your father removes it and turns to face your mother. He bows his head and she salutes. He hands her the wreath. She takes it and bows her head. They both turn to face the door and take two steps back. Your father closes and locks the door. They turn (clockwise) and walk back into the living room, where your mother places the wreath on its cushion, ready for the reverse ceremony at sunrise the next day.

Obviously, roles are reversed on alternate days.

Well I suppose its their choice but I wouldn’t bother. I have a posh wreath but live on a nice little estate next to a fairly dodgy area. Ive used cable ties to secure it to one if those metal over-the-door hangers so I dont think its going anywhere. Someone would hve to be very determined to nick it. The ring doorbell would video them in the act too so theyd have to be pretty stupid.

SpeculativeHoumous · 06/12/2024 06:40

Do you judge everything they do?

Coolasfeck · 06/12/2024 06:42

Mine got stolen one year. I wa so annoyed. It wasn’t expensive but I’d customized it a bit. After that I bought a Nest doorbell.

Bogginsthe3rd · 06/12/2024 06:43

This is not the time for wreath lectures

greengreyblue · 06/12/2024 06:44

Bit daft to spend that much but I understand why they’d bring it in. Opportunists go around stealing pots of plants so fancy Christmas wreaths would be appealing. Could sell down the pub for £20.

Wouldn’t have stopped them stealing it. You’d just have footage of the hooded thief and the police wouldn’t have time or inclination to help.

Justleaveitblankthen · 06/12/2024 06:47

My house is set back with a long Drive and someone walked up and stole a Santa Stop Here sign several years ago.
Been vigilant ever since 😂

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/12/2024 06:48

Imagine if you tell them to leave it out and then it gets stolen

I wouldn’t call the police over a wreath, however, it would act as a bit of a deterrent , make the thief think twice over whether it was worth it. In any case I don’t think a wreath thief would come all prepared with a face mask. It’s an opportunistic type of crime or done by stupid drunk people on the way back from pub,

Talesfromtheriverbank · 06/12/2024 07:02

When I was a wayward teenager me and my mates stole a wreath from someone’s door for a dare.

I feel very bad about it even now.

Not a mask but a hood and scarf. A friend recently had footage of said chancres trying everyone’s front door and car door on her door bell. Hoods up and scarves around half their faces.

And Christmas decs are stolen and sold. Drug money. All they want is a quick £20.

toucheee · 06/12/2024 07:38

I can see why they bring it in, but I live in a very built up area.

I currently have a portable doorstep outside for my MIL whilst she visits. I’ll be bringing it in after she goes home because of I don’t inevitably a neighbour will think it’s unwanted and take it.

Whattochoose1 · 06/12/2024 07:54

I told my grandparents they were mad for chaining and padlocking their hanging baskets ...the year my nana died someone stole mine 😂

MissLeToe · 06/12/2024 07:59

The couple where I live who had their life size illuminated deer stolen now have every camera known to man watching their front garden.

TBH the deer were a bit ostentatious and as they were newcomers to the village it was a talking point.

Doesn't of course excuse someone nicking them but it just goes to show that it still happens in quaint Doomsday Book villages.

PlumpCatIsBestCat · 06/12/2024 08:00

I'm with them. I regularly walk past wreaths in my neighbourhood and wonder how long they will last!

At my last place I had a little lidded metal bin outside the front door. It was for bbq coals but was used for cat poo. Some asshole stole that bin- cat poo and all- so I think now that people will steal anything.

Aww I bet wherever nanas go, she was looking smug and saying she told you so! 💜

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 06/12/2024 08:21

@ThePerkyCoralPoet can they not hang it out an upstairs window? I hang mine off the balcony. my doors are at the sides of the house so no one would see it anyway!

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 06/12/2024 08:22

@ThePerkyCoralPoet someone once stole a huge planter full of earth and roses from right at my front door at my last house. it weighed a ton! cant trust anyone

Wasn't Stonehenge originally designed for this ritual? The stone circle was to intimidate would-be wreath thieves.

MegaClutterSlut · 06/12/2024 08:31

I've had a few things nicked from my garden so don't bother putting anything put there now so I would absolutely be bringing a £60 wreath in every night 😂
People really will nick anything not nailed down
