Hi Laura, I've not posted since your last thread I don't think. Had a difficult few weeks my mother in law passed away on 25th November and we had her funeral on Friday but I've just caught up on your posts and your house is looking stunning. I'm sorry to hear about your op and the health news and glad you have recovered from the op. Positive mind set all the way, youve got this.

I've got three children that are almost 12, 15 and 20 in a couple of weeks the girls are the oldest and they can be so selfish, moody and generally quite unpleasant. We barely see my eldest, she stays at home a couple of times a week and then at friend's, boyfriends, my dad's. My youngest that's about to turn 12 can also be very one word answers about things, so please don't think your children are being the way they are due to being a bad mum. They just sound like they are in the grips of teen years and being normal teens. I've read they do start to pull away from parents in their teens as they gain new found independence and then come back early 20s. You're eldest upping his communication and turning to you in crisis shows your a great mum to them ❤️

Hi @ChaosHol1 , it’s so lovely to hear from you.
Im so so sorry to hear about your mother in law, sending big big hugs to you lovely.
Im always here if you need to chat or vent as I’m sure all the other spoonies would be too.
Omg I can’t believe your children are so similar in age to mine, mine are 13,17 and 19.
Oh girls can be so hard can’t they, my daughter can be very selfish and self centred. I tried talking to her about my cancer other day and she said ‘oh here we go’ and rolled her eyes . I do think it’s because they truly believe Exs mum who tells them it’s not proper cancer.
I am relived mine and my eldest relationship is starting to get better . It’s really strange because we had a really bad relationship before I mean really bad and now well he’s the one out of all my children who’s in contact with me the most xx

Evening Laura and other Spoonies, hope you have all had a great day?
Laura, I went to my local M&S to try and get the iced Madeira cake but they were sold out. I will have to go earlier next year.
Have you been to your GP appointment about your throat? I thought the appointment was booked for yesterday or have I made a mistake?
I always buy bulk sizes too as I agree with your mum, it does work out cheaper. I always think it gives me a back up store for times when I am short of money. I laughed out loud at the vision of half a pig in your fridge 🤣🤣 Can you cut it into smaller joints and freeze them for another time?

@nornironlady it’s such a shame that the meeting at your house triggered a meltdown for your son. Hope he is feeling more settled now.
@spoonfulofmustard hope you feel better soon and are well for Christmas.

Hi @AdmittowearingCrocs , how’s your day been?Awww I’m so gutted for you that they didn’t have the iced Madeira cake. I’d like to know who’s buying them all! Apparently they go as soon as there put out.
My appointment has been changed to Monday for my throat so hopefully will be able to get to the bottom of it or if not get some thing that stops it being so uncomfortable.
It doesn’t work out cheaper buying in bulk, my mum is right I’ll give her that I’ll just have to find a new way of budgeting maybe getting all my cleaning and washing things in one go and then food weekly .
I can’t freeze any of the ham joint as my dad refilled my freezer yesterday so I’ve got no room. I’ve also got bacon, sausages and mince in my fridge as couldn’t fit them in my freezer. My mum and dad are going away for a month on 2nd Jan so they wanted to make sure I had enough of everything before they went. I’m thrilled that they’ve helped me so much and filled my fridge and cupboards up but I’m secreting hoping to do an Ocado shop whilst there away but I don’t think that’ll be able to happen now 😂xx

Drumroll please… I scored an M&S iced Madeira cake. I would never have bought this normally but I was utterly convinced by @Imbluedalale that it is the best thing EVER. Excited to try it! There are 12 more in the Banbury M&S if anyone is close by…

Good morning Spoonies. It's my last morning at work thank god. Not that it's a hard job but I am just glad to not have to switch the PC on for a bit.
I've got up and put heating on and the cat is lying across my lap in bed. Cosy 😃
@Apolloneuro if you are still here I hear you on the group etiquette. My yoga group is full of pointless posts and I can never find the class schedule among the million thanks posts or folks telling everyone they can't make class. Dont get me stsrted on the travel pics and sick relatives. I don't need to know 😂
@Imbluedalale so interesting on the change of dynamics with your relationship with oldest. You can't deny the strength of a mother's love and bond. Could he bring the little one for a Christmas visit I wonder.
So it's a total meatfest at your house. I think I might do down my local butcher later for a few bits. They do their own Kiev and marinated skewers. Now I'm thinking dinner!!
Have a great day everyone especially if you are finishing up for the holidays.

Hi @Imbluedalale I love mumsnet but haven't posted before. All change! That's because all your threads and the responses have been so thought provoking. You have faced too much for one person yet have great humour combined with humanity towards others. I got to middle age unscathed then had a mental health breakdown. Less understanding in those days and it frightened away (and still does) those who leaned on me. I've found out who gets that it's ok to not be ok. Before your posts I was settling for avoiding stress, keeping my head down and avoiding relapse. However, you're such an inspiration and I've decided that's not really living! I'm going to grab life with both hands again now starting with my lovely son's Christmas wedding surrounded by whole family, including husband, daughter and grandchildren. Enough about me! Merry Christmas and good health to all the spoonies especially our woman of the year, Laura. P.S., I've had the Ocado spoon for years so hope you'll accept me as one of your tribe. Will pm @RaspberryBeretxx if I may to join the WhatsApp group.

Hi @VexedofVirginiaWater , how’s your day been today? Good I hope.
I didn’t know what negging meant so I had a google . He definitely undermined me a lot and always said I’ll never get better than him and I’m lucky he chose me. But I’m honestly just average looking so I don’t know. If you send me your number I can show you him and let you decide for yourself xx

Haha - no I don't think I need to see a photo of him, he sounds so horrible! But I will send my number to - RaspberryBeretxx for the WhatsApp group anyway. I still think that the fact that he had to keep sayting that you wouldn't get better than him is very telling, like he was trying to convince himself because of course it was never true (as you now know).

I love that your Mum and Dad filled your freezer! That reminds me of my parents - just the sort of thing they would have done bless them. xxx

Hi @nornironlady , have you finished work now? Are you in the Christmas spirit yet?
Eldest is being lovely with me lately it’s so nice, he’s not been lovely with me for years so I’m very surprised. His ex girlfriend said to me that she’d never seen him so excited when he first came to see the new house 🥹🥹🥹🥹.
Im hoping I’ll see my youngest after Christmas I’m keeping everything crossed. 🤞
Yes it’s a total meat fest and I’m really not fancying any of it today but I’ll have to do something with the mince later maybe make a chilli. I got some haddock and crushed pea fishcakes from M&S other day so I’m fancying them for dinner. I’ll put my half a pig in the oven on Christmas Eve . I’m finding it very hard not to eat the Christmas cheese 😂.
Hope you enjoy your afternoon and put your feet up. Oh and I’ll share my bottom story as per your request 😭😭😭xx

Well I was having a wee downstairs when I heard the wheelie bin come sauntering down the street. ‘Shit’ I thought as I hasn’t put my bin out.So I quickly finished my wee and hobbled with my crutches to the back door , got the bin, opened the gate and went up the drive to the road . Next door neighbour was also putting out his bin at this point. Bin men got to mine just in time. Phew I thought that was close. Hobbled back up drive and I thought it’s abit nippy on my legs and arse and to my horror my dressing gown and nightie was tucked in my knickers so my 50 shades of white arse was on show for the whole street and bin men to see. I’m currently hiding under my covers looking where the furthest place away from here is to go and live xx

Hi @Cuneburnal , I’ve just read your post and it’s brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so much for reading my threads and posting on here. That’s so lovely, thank you 🙏
Im so sorry to hear that you had a breakdown , sending you big hugs lovely.
I totally get people fading away from your life when you are struggling, that’s something I’ll never understand but what I read whilst I was at the crisis house was this ‘’the ones that mind don’t matter and the ones that matter don’t mind’ and it’s really stuck with me. I’m slowly getting the mindset that if you don’t want to know me when things are bad then you don’t deserve to know me when things are good. Oh I think I may be getting a little bit of a backbone.
I feel so proud of you and your new mindset. You go girl ❤️.
Im excited to hear more about your son’s wedding, what are you wearing?
Oh I think the women of the year are all you lovely spoonies, you all saved me and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Ok now im crying.
I love that you have an Ocado spoon, they are brill aren’t they. Welcome to the spoonies lovely I’ll raise my spoon in honour xx

Morning (afternoon now!) all.

@BeNavyCrab you sound like you had such an amazing childhood sailing round the world. I love that you gave your DC £15 to feed the family for a day. That’s such a great lesson although the pork pie to feed 4 and pick n mix for breakfast did make me laugh. I don’t think I have your number but feel free to PM me and I’ll add you to the group. Oh and a huge well done to your DD! An 8 hour journey sounds stressful for anyone so that’s brilliant that she coped and feels confident enough to do it again.

@ChaosHol1 so sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope you’re OK. If you’d like to join the WhatsApp group, do PM me.

@Imbluedalale That’s so hard that your son is struggling and upset but I’m so pleased that your relationship with him has turned a corner. It sounds like he’s handling it so well with the flowers to her mum etc and taking it on the chin which is a testament to your parenting! What an absolute arse your ex is with his ridiculous cheating excuses.

That’s so lovely that your parents have filled up your freezer (even though it means you can’t food shop!). My partner is always going on about how full my freezer is as I don't have drawers, just shelves so you open it and stuff falls out on top of you. Your fishcakes for dinner sound lovely. I used to love those ones with the melting/saucey middle.

My parents and I just went to a garden centre with a soft play yesterday and had lunch. I had a loaded brunch omelette with chips and it was amazing. Back to working from home today.

😂at your bum hanging out story! I hate that rush to get to the bin men. Still, at least you have an empty bin which is the most important thing (and probably gave the bin men a thrill!!).

@spoonfulofmustard sorry you’re still not feeling very well 💐.

@Malbecfan that’s so lovely that you invited the lady who delivers your dad’s paper on Christmas day and that her and your Dad can enjoy telling their stories to each other!

Hi @CookiePookie . Hope you’re well. You’re welcome to PM me too.

Hello to everyone else.

Yes you’re right @VexedofVirginiaWater it would only ruin your day .
I do find it really hard to accept compliments tbh , my head still has Ex’s voice inside it every day, I know he’s not here but I can hear him talking to me in my head. I know that sounds silly but it just won’t go away. When I was in M&S with my mum and dad the other day I got abit overwhelmed as my mum and dad kept telling me to get anything I wanted and I found it hard choosing because when me and ex used to go shopping and I used to pick something up I fancied he’d make me choose something else which I didn’t like like I don’t like custard but he’d pick trifle for pudding and things like that . So in M&S I kept hesitating before realising that I could in actual fact pick what I fancied .
Yes I’m very lucky that my dads a butcher and I get all my meat free it definitely saves on food shopping xx
