Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

My 56 year old specimen of manhood also enjoys farting and belching.
Very much like a 6 year old male.

Assuming

  1. this is real and
  2. he was born in 1968. https://www.vintagewineandport.co.uk/products/Sandeman-1968-Vintage-Port-2 I'd like it (even though '68 wasn't a great year for port 🤣)

Ooh I’d love this !!

I've had very recent experience of being a 56-year-old man, as today is my 57th birthday!

As he's into football, you need to find out what team he supports. Then maybe get him a gift, but not a predictable one from his club's shop/website, but something unofficial and quirky. For example, look for Newcastle United gifts on Etsy.

Or, you could get him a fab model of a German tank, like my wife gave me today. What's not to like?!

I am SO SO sorry.

I’ve just checked and no 1 on your birthday was actually
’Let The Heartaches Begin’ by Long John Baldry. If you’d been born just one day later - your Birthday no 1 would’ve been ‘Hello Goodbye’ by the Beatles!!

SO SO SORRY!!!!

Anyway, hope you’ve had a lovely birthday ! 😊❤️🎂🎂🎉🎈🎁

As he’s born in 1968 maybe I could bend him /shape him into submission !

of alternatively find out if he’s the fella who rocks me ….?!

(sorry - a few more for the teenagers there ….!)

of course I could approach him in disguise … WITH GLASSES!!

surely no one born in 1968 even alludes to such activities? Let alone performs said activities 🤣🤣

Ask him what he liked doing in his younger days and his hobbies and interests back then. Many come back to those later on in life when any children have flown and have more time on their hands!

Personally I don't think you could go wrong if you stuck to either a copy of the unabridged European Rail Timetable for 2025, a bottle of Buckfast Tonic Wine or a Dremel multi tool.

Things I've learnt from this thread:

DS is prematurely 56.

I'm probably a bloke.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/12/2024 22:19

@Jumell you've not met my DH then....he lives by the adage "Better oot than in!"

No problem! Yeah, I thought my birth No.1 was a rubbish one.

I did indeed have a lovely birthday, thanks. Sadly, no-one thought to buy me a Heinz product to mark me turning 57. (There you go, an idea for his 57th!)

ClareBlue · 06/12/2024 03:19

Everyone loves a goat. Buy him two. He'll fall for you big time.

ClareBlue · 06/12/2024 03:26

@CentrifugalBumblePuppyclarification on the role playing was welcome😂

Thank you to everyone who’s contributed to this thread - I’m really grateful for all your contributions.

However - I’ve just - this minute actually - thought of this.

I know this is realistically away from the main topic of the actual thread - and maybe merits another thread of its own in a way as it’s an important topic which everyone faces even if it affects some worse than others.

When my mum woke up on the morning of her 56th birthday - she had 2 parents both still alive - and ostensibly both living independently.

(I think she knew that there was deterioration physically and mentally a bit but this is subjective and even if one realises this, it’s not a situation you can necessarily go in ‘all guns blazing’ - if you see what I mean).

However by her 57th birthday - this had all drastically changed. In the space of a year she’d gone from 2 parents living independently to 0 parents living independently.

Out of interest - is it normal yo wake up on your 56th birthday and have both parents living independently or was she rather luckier than most here ?

is 56/57 an age where issues with issues with elderly parents are at their height?

I know I’ve changed this topic from being lighthearted to serious - but it’s a situation which, as a part of life virtually everyone can relate to.

You do like your generalisations, don't you?

When your parents are likely to stop living independently has more to do with their age than yours. And even then it's only averages.

I know people in their 60s with both parents living independently, and people in their 30s with both parents dead.

Fireworknight · 06/12/2024 07:33

Not quite reached 56, but two of my siblings have and parents are both alive. Dh - one passed away when he was around the age of 56 (but has older sibling who passed this age at that point ), the other three years later.

Thinking around my friends of this age, there’s a mix of people with one, both or no parents.

certainly an interesting observation that around mid fifties is when you could start loosing your parents.

PollyPaulina · 06/12/2024 07:36

Why do you want to know if his parents are living independently?

Yes … to be fair I know and agree.

my Dad was 26 and lost both his.

His parents are both long gone from this world and sorry if I didn’t clarify - but this question is much more general and not specifically to do with him
