To ask about 56 year old men?

Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

The only thing I can think of that all the mid-50s men of my acquaintance have in common is an interest in solar panels. Get him one of those.

This, and they all like climbing Pen Y Fan, owning high energy dogs, working in the city and their "kids are my world and will always come first"

The Pen Y Fan bit is so accurate and always makes me ROFL. As if the mountain climbing woman they're presumably hoping to attract doesn't know that Pen Y Fan has got to be one of the easiest summits in the UK to get to....there's a car park halfway up 😆

Hugh Jackman
Daniel Craig
Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale actor on Eastenders)
Lee Mack comedian
Rod Gilbert comedian
Grant Shapps MP

are all 56 years old. What do they like? Are they as fit as each other? Are they the same because they are 56 do you think?

Jumell · 05/12/2024 12:02

It's not about men and age, it's about friendship, similar values and financial resources at this age.

Is he financially independent?

Has he lived alone for a few years and able to take care of himself without a woman to make it easier for him?

Are his kids grown up, independent but having a good close relationship with him?

Is he emotionally available? Can you talk and make decisions about your everyday life without him blowing out in anger or having to walk on eggshells from fear?

Are you compatible? Do you want similar things in present life and in the future?

His age is immaterial, OP. You've said little about yourself except you fancy him and "fancy" is not a term to look for in a good partner, specially in mature age when they come with baggage.

You make some good points here. My answer is yes to most of these but I’d have to get to know him better for the last point !

Nice thread, but you really can't generalise. You'll have to ask him more about himself! Or, you could notice what he's wearing and get something in the same vein. If he has a nice pair of black leather gloves for example, you might get him a new pair in a different colour. If he's always in a rugby shirt you could get him one of those. If he's a great tea drinker then some nice mugs.
I'd be cautious of football related gifts unless you can come up with tickets for his local team playing at home - that would go down well.

I just thought he might appreciate a nice Radox bubble bath ! 😊

I know a 51 year old who has the full range of Radox bubble baths.
He also enjoys painting his nails, collecting ancient ZX Spectrums and baggy Manchester music, so I'm sure your generic 56 year old will be into all that too 😆

ThirdAttempt · 05/12/2024 12:03

I've had very recent experience of being a 56-year-old man, as today is my 57th birthday!

As he's into football, you need to find out what team he supports. Then maybe get him a gift, but not a predictable one from his club's shop/website, but something unofficial and quirky. For example, look for Newcastle United gifts on Etsy.

Or, you could get him a fab model of a German tank, like my wife gave me today. What's not to like?!

Minahundaralskarmig · 05/12/2024 12:05

Some of them have a dirty secret that they bought Smurfs records in 1978 helping it get to No2

As ABBA famously once sang -

“I do I do I do I do I do” 🎶🎵🎶

Buy him a Christmas jumper from the merch site for his favourite football team.

Lee Mack can have a mouldy apple and some unstable fireworks, and nothing for Grant Shapps either, but I bet all the others would be fine with an Aeropress, some Kiehl's men's moisturiser and the super deluxe Talking Heads reissue on heavyweight vinyl, yeah.

I’m completely unsure what’s going on here.

I also don’t have a man in their 50s, I can offer a man in his 40s who still likes his Xbox, beer and boobs?

They don’t grow up; they just get older and greyer!

Going from memory...

Little interest in sports - either live or on TV.
Looking forward to retirement (this happened 2 and a bit years later)
Liked the odd beer.
Liked DIY + making things.
Reasonably agile, not a runner but could walk all day. Still can.
Parts of mind still 16+, Knees about 56, teeth older than 56.
Hair - still all there and dark. Still there but lighter now.
Liked family time with adult children. Still do.
Music - a wide selection including things I would not have liked as a younger man.
Marmite - yes.
Didn't eat dead stuff - still don't and have added dairy and eggs to the don't eat list.
Moved more to the left as I got older - a lifetime in education and seeing inequalities first hand has seen to that.
Not keen on swimming.

Well, they are all one amorphous mass, so having never met this man I can confidently say he's:

Really into cars
Loves vintage movies
Hates spam
Moderate stamina
Has a fake leg but it's very well concealed
Would have been an adventurer but took an arrow to the knee (hence the fake leg)
Likes dry bumming
Mostly enjoy hurdy gurdy music
Would love a multi pack of blancmange (Princes brand, nothing but the best)

Hope that helps!

Edited

😂😂thank you!

I love all the bands I’ve listed MUCH more than the likes of Blur and Oasis

NOT ASHAMED !!!

But you're not asking about a present for you. My mother liked all those bands. She would be 93 now but she's dead.

That’s what I was going to ask!!!

Who knew dry bumming references would very such an efficient way of finding common ground with folk, eh?

😁

ManchesterLu · 05/12/2024 12:25

Everyone's different! My DP is 55 and is a performing musician and professional gamer (I also game). So that's very different than the picture some people have painted here - although perhaps he will change when he hits 56 haha.
