To ask about 56 year old men?

Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

My chap is a 56 year old. I am slightly younger. He has loads of his own hair, an amazing arse and legs, dynamite in the sack and also in the kitchen, and lots of eclectic interests.

TBH though the previous poster who mentioned solar panels - well that’s spot on.

The only thing I can think of that all the mid-50s men of my acquaintance have in common is an interest in solar panels. Get him one of those.

So true. Solar panels, heat pumps, how to save energy.

How about a book of 'Energy Saving Tips'.

TheRainItRaineth · 05/12/2024 12:37

Would have been an adventurer but took an arrow to the knee

Absolute fave comment, @EnterFunnyNameHere . Thanks for making me laugh.

What kind of things do they like in general?
Watching sports, bird watching, DIY, fast cars and gardening.

Have they got good stamina ?
They can walk up a flight of stairs without pausing.

birthdays /Xmas
4 cans of premium lager and some pork scratchings.

music they like
Oasis, The Jam, Chemical Brothers, The Orb and Blondie.

Just read your list to my 56 year old DH. It's fair to say he didn't agree with the vast majority of this list .
And everyone is an individual.
I'd say get to know your crush a little better (including if they're actually single) before investing too much time and headspace into translating it into action.

PinkRetro · 05/12/2024 12:43

Surely all comes down to preference?
All the mid to late fifties men I know have enjoyed booze, cars, model making, live music, football and rugby. But without knowing this particular guy, it's hard to make proper suggestions.

Widowtoo · 05/12/2024 12:46

My 53 year old likes

football
golf
boot camp
single malt whiskeys
trainers
cooking
prince, the chili peppers, blur and hard core dance crab

he is aging like a fine wine and has never looked or felt better

housethatbuiltme · 05/12/2024 12:52

What about 16 year old girls?

Do they all love Taylor Swift, White Fox, Ugg boots etc... or are they unique individuals completely different to each other?

What what its worth the men in my side of the family are completely opposite to the roughly same aged men in DH family.

ATuinTheGreat · 05/12/2024 12:57

EnterFunnyNameHere · 05/12/2024 12:25

Who knew dry bumming references would very such an efficient way of finding common ground with folk, eh?

😁

I know! It’s like magic!

SpottySpotSpots · 05/12/2024 13:16

I have a man around that age - he likes motorbikes, hates beer and whiskey, likes football, but not obsessively, hates being cold, likes to worry about little things, is baffled by social media. He doesn't have a beard, hates golf and is frankly a nightmare to buy presents for because if you try searching 'gifts for men in their 50s' you get loads of golfing, whiskey, beard and beer related things.

Jumell · 05/12/2024 08:46

I could get him a compilation take of hits by :

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich
Tremeloes
Manfred Man
Amen Corner
The Move
Herman’s Hernits
Small Faces

What fabulous music there was back then !

You're at least a decade too early! That music would have been around in the 60s but most people his age wouldn't be listening to it, Being born in the mid/late 60s means he's more likely to listen to 80s stuff.

SleepQuest33 · 05/12/2024 13:47

I remember the good old days when DH was 56. Liked:

cycling
watching ganster films
Wearing jeans
good healthy food
coffee of the good kind!

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 05/12/2024 13:53

My DH is 54. He likes Paul Weller, The Jam, The Wedding Present, and too many other mod bands to mention, among many others.

He's also into F1, football, mod styles and fashion, gardening, DIY, car restoration programmes on tv, and Labretta scooter restorations.

Lots of other stuff that I can't think of now too lol 😆

crackofdoom · 05/12/2024 14:25

Personally I don't think you could go wrong if you stuck to either a copy of the unabridged European Rail Timetable for 2025, a bottle of Buckfast Tonic Wine or a Dremel multi tool.

True fact.

Jumell · 05/12/2024 15:49

OK I’ve had an idea.

How about the ‘Match’ magazine football annual for 2025?

Personally he seems too young for sheds /powertools.

Anyone asking he likes :

FOOTBALL

Boxing

Geography stuff

Pub

Travel

he’s lean, handsome - very virile 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Footballl annuals it is !!!!!!

Pretty much nailed DH (early 50s) with this, especially the birthday/Christmas presents.

I don’t think anyone is buying their crush a shed for Christmas anyway, tbh.

Fireworknight · 05/12/2024 08:04

They can vary. I know someone recently who died from alcohol poisoning at that age, and others who does long distance swims.

Music - again, the choice is huge - rock, blues, folk, punk. They were teens in the 80s so could have been a New Romantic ( Duran Duran) or into heavy metal (The Damned).

Present - whiskey is my first thought, but equally they may not drink whiskey.

FFS The Damned are not heavy metal.

They are melodious post punk with classic goth inklings.

Sid Vicious apparently narrowly missed being in The Damned

love Sid 😍

Post punk? The Damned released the first UK punk single. My 54 year old man might be a big fan 😁 I’ve seen The Damned a fair few times.

All men in their 50s are different.

And they are all too old for you.

You need to do more research.

"He likes football" can be very misleading. Many people follow a particular club and have no interest in others or even football in general. Particularly if his club is not in the Premiership.
