To think that Greggs is extremely reasonably priced

.. for what it actually sells ?

I my local Greggs last week and there are delicious ready made pizza slices for £2.30 -
large cooked steak pie for under £2

sausage rolls for around £1.20

also the app is very good I think -it breaks down all their foodstuffs individually and you have a free item for every 9th one bought

Come on - to have tasty ready cooked food for these sort of prices - it’s pretty good isn’t it ?

I love Greggs! Very reasonably priced .

I recently discovered a Greggs outlet near me too - half price ! Already been twice and I found it 4 days ago 🤣

Garnetcherrycola · 03/12/2024 10:15

I don't find Greg's tasty. Also I never feel full after eating it.

holiverterwist · 03/12/2024 10:15

nasty sweaty oily crap. You pay for what you get. An occasional 'treat' perhaps, but not a good source of nutrition.

BiggerBoat1 · 03/12/2024 10:17

Their tuna crunch baguette is food of the gods. Coffee is also very reasonable compared to the likes of Costa.

I also went to a bakery in York that was just like that Greggs but did made to order rolls and baguettes as well. It’s a chain too but I can’t remember what it’s called and google not helping!

Thomas the Bakers? Red onion and cheese sandwiches to die for!

LadyKenya · 03/12/2024 10:17

Their items are low grade quality, so it stands to reason that they are cheap.

LostTheMarble · 03/12/2024 10:18

It’s brilliantly priced for what it is. You know it’s greasy/fat/UPF or whatever else triggers the Massive Salad lot, but if that’s what you need to hit the spot, Greggs is probably the best choice. I like how consistent every chain is, living in a city there’s always the Maccys or similar you avoid for bad chips/cold food but I’ve never been to a ‘bad’ Greggs. I love their hot shot slice, and I’m ridiculously fussy about pizza.

LlynTegid · 03/12/2024 10:19

The issue to me is not the pricing it is what is on offer, most of which is not healthy if eaten regularly in my opinion. Same as any 'fast food' place.

Shittyproblem · 03/12/2024 10:20

@Jumell Are you the CEO, or a shareholder ?

Who ever looks at Greggs and goes ‘yes, that is a good source of nutrients’ 🤣. It’s like having a glass of wine and saying ‘this is a poor source of fruit intake’, completely missing it’s purpose…

Toddlerteaplease · 03/12/2024 10:21

The pizza is just like the pizza we had at school. It was delicious.

SallyWD · 03/12/2024 10:27

It's ok. I like my food to be delicious and I don't think it is. Nothing special. If we're at an airport or shopping centre and need something to eat, I can usually find much nicer options.

Coffeecakelatte · 03/12/2024 10:31

On the surface maybe, then you try it and realise it is cheap and nasty. Barely any chicken in the pasties, chicken bakes full of salty sauce, sausage rolls no meat content, I don't know how they can call them sausage tbh. Their pizza slices are stodgy, and taste awful, had to bin it. I don't know if anyone remembers, but greggs used to do a pizza baguette, and it tasted lovely, before they replaced it for the cheap pizza slice.
The peach melbas used to be lovely, now there's barely any peaches in them. The Cooplands' version is far superior, and loaded with peaches.
Watch the greggs documentary🤢

Now, Lidl on the other hand has cheaper and higher quality bakery items. Their toffee yum yums, chocolate cronuts etc are amazing.

Rosscameasdoody · 03/12/2024 10:34

They use cheap ingredients and it’s full of trans fats. That’s why it’s cheap. OK for occasionally, but not good for you on a regular basis.

amusedbush · 03/12/2024 10:37

Not a week goes by that I don't miss a macaroni pie from Greggs. I believe they were a Scotland exclusive (certainly when I enquired about them in a Greggs in Newcastle, the staff member looked at me like I'd farted) and they were discontinued years ago, but they live on in my heart (and arteries).

For anyone unaware, it's the same pastry casing as a scotch pie but it's filled with stodgy macaroni cheese. Bloody delicious with a bit of brown sauce.

mrlistersgelfbride · 03/12/2024 10:38

It's alright for convenience. The app is good. But I can't get excited about it.
I feel like it's just the same old beige stuff again and again.

Hickory247 · 03/12/2024 10:39

Just had a latte, bacon roll and two hash browns from Greggs for £3.40. You can't beat those prices in a city centre. Loads of bacon on the roll too, usually three or four slices.

You can also get four bakes and four filled doughnuts of your choice for £10.55 or 4 sausage rolls and 4 filled doughnuts for £8.30 but not sure if that's just through Just Eat.

LostTheMarble · 03/12/2024 10:41

Lidl bakery is God Tier. I’m not sure what kind of penance you must give yourself for buying from there, perhaps a simple prayer of ‘forgive me for I have chosen bad nutrition on this day, and have given into the Satanic Temptation of trans-fats and UPF of the Germanic supermarket variety. To seek redemption, I shall spend a month in the wilderness, sourcing the illustrious One Week Chicken to complement a very filling salad…’.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 03/12/2024 10:42

I love a Greggs cheese and onion slice or the chicken slice with the creamy sauce but one thing that really, really pisses me off is that they don't/won't keep them hot. They are pretty revolting cold. I always ask if they are still hot before I commit to buying one as I've learnt the hard way. If you want to eat it immediately rather than take it home and bung it back in the oven, then you need to check how long its been out of their oven before you pay for it.

pooballs · 03/12/2024 10:43

Lidl bakery is amazing! I once had a fancy £5 brownie from a market that wasn’t as nice as Lidl bakery brownies.

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 03/12/2024 10:45

As with everything in life you get the quality you pay for....

Tried Greggs for the first time ever, during a 'pitstop' whilst taking someone to Heathrow - a bacon baguette and a coffee. Never again, it was vile, lukewarm coffee and a dried up baguette. Utterly revolting!

Ditto my one and only experience with MacDonalds.

thestudio · 03/12/2024 10:46

I can't bear to think about the welfare of the animals that are so cheaply valued that Greggs can sell their bodies at those prices.

Sorry, I know people don't want to hear that but I feel personally morally obliged to say it out loud.

WhatKatieDidntDoNext · 03/12/2024 10:46

If you are aiming to spend just over £10 a week on all your food, why are you buying ready-made stuff anyway?

Why not make your own sandwiches or some healthy home made soup?

You're eating crap, you know, buying from Greggs.

It's okay perhaps once in a blue moon but not for every day eating.

ShortNTall · 03/12/2024 10:47

This just feels like a blatant PR stunt

TeaInBed321 · 03/12/2024 10:48

Yeah but the last few times mea I've been, everything's been really cold. I don't want a cold sausage roll or cheese and onion pasty. Petrol stations near me can do lovely warm pasties, so not sure why Gregg's can't!! But maybe I've just been unlucky?!
