To think that Greggs is extremely reasonably priced

.. for what it actually sells ?

I my local Greggs last week and there are delicious ready made pizza slices for £2.30 -
large cooked steak pie for under £2

sausage rolls for around £1.20

also the app is very good I think -it breaks down all their foodstuffs individually and you have a free item for every 9th one bought

Come on - to have tasty ready cooked food for these sort of prices - it’s pretty good isn’t it ?

I remember when they were a proper bakers and sold bread and rolls. They were better then.

Ytcsghisn · 03/12/2024 09:29

Stone cold stodgy pastries and pies. No thanks.

TimeToGoAgain · 03/12/2024 09:29

They are just not as good as they used to be.

They are much smaller, and more expensive.

Where is the huge square Whopper sandwich.
Where are the prawns.
Where is the really cheese potato and onion in the cheese pasty.

The Belgian buns have nasty lemon, instead of nice lemon in them. The last time I had one, but that might even be gone now.

At least our local one does bread and stotties, not all do

We have Greggs Outlets in selected areas of Glasgow. No wonder we're all fat bastards

Chuck us a steak bake

I've never been handed any stone cold in the shop, and if they've cooled by the time you get them home they're easy enough to reheat, so not sure I see your point...

I love a bit of Greggs and their sandwiches and mince pies are nice too. Not had any in a while though, so bit alarmed by pp saying the quality has dropped recently...

There is a Greek Bakery called OOPA, they do really delicious spinach and cheese and other fillings pastries, really good coffee and Greek cakes and sandwiches.
Reasonably priced and very fresh. I wished there were more of them.

Lorrymum · 03/12/2024 09:34

The tea is delicious, my friend is a real tea snob and loves it. She can't get over the fact it only costs £1.25 a cup.

MintTwirl · 03/12/2024 09:35

Sometimes a warm Greggs sausage roll and hot chocolate just hit the spot. It’s not great food and it’s definitely not health food but you know what you are getting and it is easy and quick. Cooplands cakes are better and their sausage rolls are cheaper but smaller and not as nice(I think they do a more expensive sausage roll too which is better).

I would probably go more if they ever brought back the ham and cheese bakes that disappeared years ago. They were a staple lunch when I was at uni.

@Jumell does this thread mean that you have stopped trying to feed yourself for £30 a month?

It's for tax reasons actually! Serving hot food above a certain temp means there is VAT added.

Ah makes sense. I’d pay the VAT!

That's kind of the point of it, cheap and cheerful.

BMW6 · 03/12/2024 09:38

Gregg's sausage rolls are garbage. The pork content is only 18% so mainly rusk and shite.

I don't know if it's because I'm in the North East but ours always sell buns and stotties.

Funkyslippers · 03/12/2024 09:40

Aren't their mince pies meant to be the best ever? I go to Greggs frequently with my job. The bacon rolls are really good and their festive drinks too & about half the price of Costa next door

Rubyupbeat · 03/12/2024 09:41

We love their vegan sausage rolls , really good.
Percy ingalls was a much better bakery though, hands down!

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 03/12/2024 09:42

I barely ever find myself near a Greggs, don't eat that sort of grab & run food more than once in a blue moon - but their millionaire's shortbread is fabulous.

GoFaster83 · 03/12/2024 09:42

I miss their chicken new Orleans and mango chicken sandwiches. That was the golden age of Greggs

YourAmplePlumPoster · 03/12/2024 09:42

They do a good soup and they are very reasonably priced. I love the sausage rolls.

Pigeonqueen · 03/12/2024 08:03

Can’t beat a sausage roll from there.

You can, actually.

I don't get the hype. They're awful as far as sausage rolls go.

Hoppinggreen · 03/12/2024 09:45

No, its rank

GrazeConcern · 03/12/2024 09:46

Would rather have a Gail’s once a month than a Greggs once a week!

EffortlesslyInelegant · 03/12/2024 09:46

You seem to have a bit of an ongoing thing for Greggs pizza OP. What's really going on here?

OrwellianTimes · 03/12/2024 09:48

It’s all bland beigeness or sugary crap so definitely wouldn’t pay more for it.

icclemunchy · 03/12/2024 09:48

Oh to have a cheap and cheerful lunch option to just grab out and about.

3 out of the 4 of us are gluten free, so the best we can hope for is a limp repacked sarnie from a supermarket and they're usually exempt from the meal deal too 😒

BMW6 · 03/12/2024 09:48

I couldn't agree more. The people who think they're the Best have surely never tasted a decent sausage roll!
