NO 2 during dinner

Me and DP are currently trying to encourage our DS (2 years) to use potty. It's hit and miss but we've had 5x number 2s on potty so far and everyone's thrilled. We set it up in kitchen/diner behind some chairs as barrier (he likes privacy) so we can keep an eye and he feels comfortable.
So tonight during dinner DS tells me he needs to go so I get potty as per usual. DP who's above average squeamish says no, take him to bathroom as he can't handle eating while DS goes for no 2. I go against his wishes and set up as per usual. Rationale being I don't want to change routine in fear of discouraging Potty use. Also, downstairs bathroom is freezing and time was of the essence.
So am I being unreasonable for "crossing DPs line" or am I gross and DS should not use Potty during mealtimes in kitchen/diner.

The potty should be in the bathroom, especially as you have one downstairs.

SapphireOpal · 01/12/2024 18:55

Why on earth would you put the potty in the kitchen? Just put it in the bathroom!

BeMintBee · 01/12/2024 18:56

Yes gross and unnecessary. Why in earth people set up potty’s anywhere other than the bathroom is beyond me!

BoobyDazzler · 01/12/2024 18:56

Babies and young toddlers poo in their nappies while they are eating, I wouldn’t get too excited about a potty in the kitchen. I think we had to them dotted about the house.

Bonjovispyjamas · 01/12/2024 18:57

Yeah, that's gross while people are eating 🤢 It will only take a few seconds to get him to the bathroom.

itsalwaysthesame · 01/12/2024 18:58

I'm with your husband on this one, toddler poo stinks as much as adults and it would put me off my dinner if my toddler was taking a dump in the kitchen behind a chair.

MimiSunshine · 01/12/2024 18:58

Put it in the loo. I’d understand if you were following the OCPT method and you were right at the start but at this stage when the child can clearly state they need the potty it should have been long in the bathroom.

doing a poo in the dining area while people are eating us beyond gross

Not remotely the same.

Babies and toddlers can’t help it and you immediately take them elsewhere to change.

Vaxtable · 01/12/2024 18:59

That is revolting. The potty should be in the toilet end of discussion

Hankunamatata · 01/12/2024 19:00

Ours used potty in sitting room but we didnt have a downstairs bathroom as couldn't cope in the kitchen diner as just seemed gross to do it where we prep food

Pinkissmart · 01/12/2024 19:00

If they can’t wait the 30 seconds it would take to get them to the loo, then they are really not ready

RobertaFirmino · 01/12/2024 19:01

That's awful. Shit is shit, no matter whose arse it comes from.

Mugler · 01/12/2024 19:01

Absolutely disgusting. Team DH.

Onlyvisiting · 01/12/2024 19:01

Ew. He's not a cat using a litter box, he should be able to generalise that the potty is the goal, not that that corner of the kitchen is his toilet.
I see why you would litter potties about the house as a just in case, but if you are given warning I'd absolutely be scooping him into the closest bathroom.
And no, I couldn't just sit there and continue my meal while someone poos in the corner.

TheSilkWorm · 01/12/2024 19:03

You are unreasonable and so gross!

itsgettingweird · 01/12/2024 19:08

Another team DH.

If he can't say he needs to do and walk the few meters to a bathroom he isn't ready to toilet train.

The Potty is for ease of use - not to go in every room of the house.

LuckySantangelo35 · 01/12/2024 19:08

Who has voted YANBU OP?! And why??! No one wants to be in the same room as someone who is shitting whilst they are eating. No one. That’s just a normal human thing surely?!

ObtuseMoose · 01/12/2024 19:10

Nothing like the sounds and smells of a shit while you're eating your tea 😩

Looneytune253 · 01/12/2024 19:11

What on earth? Surely this post isnt serious?!?! Always in the bathroom (if there's one near by) but absolutely always for no2 and during meals. Yuck!!

Wowzel · 01/12/2024 19:12

This is so nasty. I can't believe you would actually think this was ok.

Sailorchick14 · 01/12/2024 19:13

We had potties in the hallway or lounge. But that was because we didn't have a downstairs loo and when they are first learning don't always leave enough time for stairs.
Would never have it in the same room we were eating though.

Longhotsummers · 01/12/2024 19:14

Gross. Don’t let your child poor around food.

sprigatito · 01/12/2024 19:15

Ever heard the expression "don't shit where you eat"? It's never too early to start teaching children that one! I'm with your dp I'm afraid. I would have been gagging.

Notimeforaname · 01/12/2024 19:16

No. It belongs in bathroom.

Itisjustmyopinion · 01/12/2024 19:17

I am with your DH. You will need to dispose of it and to carry that to the bathroom while someone is eating is pretty disgusting. If you have a downstairs bathroom there is no excuse not to have it in there
