NO 2 during dinner

Fannyanne88 · 01/12/2024 18:52

Me and DP are currently trying to encourage our DS (2 years) to use potty. It's hit and miss but we've had 5x number 2s on potty so far and everyone's thrilled. We set it up in kitchen/diner behind some chairs as barrier (he likes privacy) so we can keep an eye and he feels comfortable.
So tonight during dinner DS tells me he needs to go so I get potty as per usual. DP who's above average squeamish says no, take him to bathroom as he can't handle eating while DS goes for no 2. I go against his wishes and set up as per usual. Rationale being I don't want to change routine in fear of discouraging Potty use. Also, downstairs bathroom is freezing and time was of the essence.
So am I being unreasonable for "crossing DPs line" or am I gross and DS should not use Potty during mealtimes in kitchen/diner.

Utterly gross. Team DH.

usererror99 · 01/12/2024 19:17

The Potty belongs in the bathroom - I've never potty trained using potties in the rooms you live in like lounges and kitchens - it's just grim and I find parents who do this are also the sort who whip out a potty in a public place infront of others like in cafes restaurants and shops

EmotionalSupportPotato · 01/12/2024 19:18

You're teaching your child that it's OK to shit in the kitchen.

Nolegusta · 01/12/2024 19:18

I'm with DH.
Just start putting the potty in the correct room, the bathroom.

LuckySantangelo35 · 01/12/2024 19:18

Did you honestly expect your husband to happily tuck into his meal while someone took a shit right by him OP?! Because if so….the mind boggles 🤯

Babies and young toddlers poo in their nappies while they are eating, I wouldn’t get too excited about a potty in the kitchen. I think we had to them dotted about the house.

We did the same, only for about a week while they got their confidence then moved to steps on the loo.

Dp sounds pretty pathetic

SophieJo · 01/12/2024 19:19

‘am I gross and DS should not use Potty during mealtimes in kitchen/diner.’

You are being extremely gross and the potty should not be in the kitchen/diner. I do hope you take note of the comments on here.

SuperfluousHen · 01/12/2024 19:19

Always had a potty or two in the kitchen. Small children are triggered to “go” when they eat so it’s the obvious place. Just remove it quickly once used.

@n3f5

what, cos he wants to eat his evening meal without the sounds and smells of someone taking a shit right by him?!

yeah. Right. “Pathetic”…..

lol, you will find most people cannot tolerate such grossness….

Coalplay · 01/12/2024 19:20

Missing the point slightly, but why do you say use potty and miss out the word the?

Matilda1981 · 01/12/2024 19:20

Having a potty in the kitchen is rank!!! I’ve potty trained 4 kids and never even used a potty as cleaning out number 2’s made me heave (didn’t mind nappies so not sure why I couldn’t cope with a potty!) mine went straight onto a toilet!

Coalplay · 01/12/2024 19:21

As regards to potty use, we never had a potty the kids just went on the loo

Overthebow · 01/12/2024 19:21

That’s disgusting, he shouldn't be using the potty in the kitchen/dining room at all but especially not when people are eating. Can’t believe you think it’s ok.

Magnastorm · 01/12/2024 19:22

Having the potty in the kitchen is disgusting, even if people aren't in there eating, ffs.

Gotabadfeelingaboutthis · 01/12/2024 19:22

I agree with the majority - your dh is absolutely right. It is disgusting to have someone pooping in the same room you're eating your dinner in.

Dishwashersaurous · 01/12/2024 19:23

Potty shouldn't be anywhere other a bathroom

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 01/12/2024 19:24

YABU. I’m potty training my youngest now and so many people forget that part of what we’re teaching them is where to go to the toilet, and how to hold it in for the brief period of time it takes to get there. We rarely use a potty anyway as mine both prefer the toilet and it means we don’t have the extra step of getting them used to toilets down the line.

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 01/12/2024 19:24

BeMintBee · 01/12/2024 18:56

Yes gross and unnecessary. Why in earth people set up potty’s anywhere other than the bathroom is beyond me!

People have baths in their bedroom, as do many hotels. I mean, wtf?
Nothing surprises me any more

n3f5 · 01/12/2024 19:25

Pinkissmart · 01/12/2024 19:00

If they can’t wait the 30 seconds it would take to get them to the loo, then they are really not ready

Rubbish. They learn to wait, having a potty next to them is easier while they learn. Should only be a few days.

People don't seem as weird about nappies? Which are genuinely more disgusting

unclebuck · 01/12/2024 19:26

You are teaching him to be more grown up - he shits and pisses in the bathroom like everyone else. This is where humans shit and piss. What on earth were you thinking? Your partner is not weirdly squeamish - it's disgusting.

n3f5 · 01/12/2024 19:27

what, cos he wants to eat his evening meal without the sounds and smells of someone taking a shit right by him?!

yeah. Right. “Pathetic”…..

How did he cope with nappies? Toddlers wearing nappies don't generally walk off to the bathroom

mrpinkwhistlescat · 01/12/2024 19:27

I’m a nurse and not a bit squeamish about bodily functions but that’s disgusting. I’m on DH’s side.

Preumably the nappy wasn't changed beside his dinner plate.

Livelovebehappy · 01/12/2024 19:28

I’m shocked you need to ask.

@n3f5

Well, there’s no choice is there when it’s a baby in nappies…when you have an older child you absolutely do have a choice and can put potty in a bathroom where it belongs, as opposed to a kitchen where people are eating …I thought that would have been self- explanatory…
