NO 2 during dinner

Me and DP are currently trying to encourage our DS (2 years) to use potty. It's hit and miss but we've had 5x number 2s on potty so far and everyone's thrilled. We set it up in kitchen/diner behind some chairs as barrier (he likes privacy) so we can keep an eye and he feels comfortable.
So tonight during dinner DS tells me he needs to go so I get potty as per usual. DP who's above average squeamish says no, take him to bathroom as he can't handle eating while DS goes for no 2. I go against his wishes and set up as per usual. Rationale being I don't want to change routine in fear of discouraging Potty use. Also, downstairs bathroom is freezing and time was of the essence.
So am I being unreasonable for "crossing DPs line" or am I gross and DS should not use Potty during mealtimes in kitchen/diner.

Consistency as in potty every time?

Hope you're not one of those who takes one when out and about and let your child potty in public whilst failing to cover them for privacy!

I have a picture of DD at Tintern Abbey, on her potty, wearing a candy-stripe dress and Wonder Woman knickers - she was 18 mths. Truthfully, how can you go anywhere without a potty at that stage? I did shield her - while I took the picture.
How do you feel about breastfeeding in public? I did it anywhere I needed to. Shawl sometimes.

Never heard of taking photos of kids on the potty in public.

How is breast milk comparable to poo? Unless your breast milk stinks!

That is incredibly weird and probably not something to go around announcing.

@laraitopbanana

not a baby but a toddler we’re talking about. Poo shouldn’t ever be in a kitchen, it’s really unhygienic

My 2nd wasn’t reliably toilet trained until he was 5 - he was hugely premature and very delayed in a lot of ways…there are lots of children who are still pooing in nappies long beyond babyhood. Are you suggesting they should never be allowed in a kitchen?

No. She was having a pee, not a poo, and it was in a quiet spot. I take photos of odd things. It's in a photo album somewhere.
Just people are peculiar sometimes about breastfeeding babies in public.
But definitely not a poo in the dining room - potties go in the loo! (But need to be carted if going somewhere that is going to be difficult - which Tintern Abbey was.)

Fair enough. Thread was about poo in the kitchen hence asking if OP was one of those who thinks it's OK to poo anywhere.
Coz if you're OK with it in the kitchen, where does it end.

To be fair, OP has said herself she'll put the potty back in the loo.

I've had the pleasure of coming round a corner to be met with a toddler doing a numerous 2 in a potty, on the pavement with dad standing opposite her on his phone.

He looked up memontarily to say sorry then back on his phone.
Had heard of it but it was the first and last time I encountered it. Looked back and child was still on it. Was intrigued on how he'd dispose of it, but glad I didn't find out 😅.

Teaching your kid to shit in public.

Taking picture of minors on the toilet.

Disregard and lack of respect for others in public places.

Yes it damn well is weird.

Absolutely not in a room you are eating in. DH is right.

That's a bit disrespectful to his DD. Idiot.

Ygfrhj · 06/12/2024 15:19

YABU but if your DH feels that strongly about it he could have taken the child to the bathroom himself and supervised/cleaned up the poo, sounds like he wasn't volunteering!

pineapplesundae · 06/12/2024 21:07

Why would you teach your son to potty in the kitchen, around food? That’s just wrong!

Mugler · 06/12/2024 21:38

SanctusInDistress · 01/12/2024 21:07

the odd child maybe, especially girls, but it’s a fact of nature that boys are ready later and rarely before 3.

I find it hard to believe your was fully trained at 20 months. At what expense I wonder.

Some children (whether male or female) toilet train earlier than others at no “expense”. I can’t help but wonder what “expense” you’re meaning? I’d really like to know.
