Just wondering what is the going rate to tip if it's just a ladies cut and blow dry?

I tip a fiver - kind of wish I didn't but am in the habit of it now so would be weird to stop.
I notice a lot of people seem to bring Christmas presents too (eg wine)

Popadomorbread · 30/11/2024 18:57

Absolutely nothing. I don’t understand why you would.

TherealmrsT · 30/11/2024 18:58

I stopped when I followed my stylist to his own salon and still don't now I use another stylist within the salon. I pay £61 for a fairly standard cut and quick dry. I think that's enough (SE London).

PussInBin20 · 30/11/2024 18:59

Nothing. I used to but when I am paying over £100, I think they have enough!

Sleepycocker · 30/11/2024 18:59

My hairdressers is extortionate- no tip.

dementedpixie · 30/11/2024 19:00

I didn't have any money on me when I got my hair done yesterday (paid by card) so didn't leave a tip. Sometimes I put a couple of quid to the girl that's washed my hair but it was my stylist that washed it yesterday

RosesAndHellebores · 30/11/2024 19:00

I usually always have a cut, colour and blow dry. I tip £10.

Dragonsandcats · 30/11/2024 19:01

Nothing!

NicoleSkidman · 30/11/2024 19:02

Nothing. Tipping hairdressers is madness. They set their rates (and they are extortionate!).

Corinthiana · 30/11/2024 19:04

Nothing. I pay their rate for the service provided.

bugalugs45 · 30/11/2024 19:04

I tip a fiver , but only have hair cut 3 times a year . Costs me £25 and I give her £30

Berlinlover · 30/11/2024 19:04

I wouldn’t dream of tipping, it’s so patronising.

kezzykate · 30/11/2024 19:07

I don't tip at the hairdresser. Not sure it's really a thing here to be honest. I pay almost £200 for a cut and colour as it is!

ThinWomansBrain · 30/11/2024 19:09

Hairdressers in a social enterprise - it used to be completely "pay what you want/can" but I guess too many took advantage, now there's recommended prices to cover costs (£20-£25 ish depending on the length of the appointment).
You still select what you want to pay at the till, and can also add a donation to pay for subsidised appointments and services, so not exactly a tip.
I usually add £5 or make it up to £30.

I once embarrassingly added 5p by mistake.

BasiliskStare · 30/11/2024 19:13

I do tip because in the olden days HMRC ( whatever the equivalent was then ) used to assume an amount of tips. So I tend to take a few quid with me. They won't let you add a tip on to the bill at my salon because it buggers up the business income. The reason I say this is that my mother used to own a hairdressing salon and she said it to me . Whether it is still true now I don't know.

I don't think a tip is patronising but each to their own

CrispyCrumpets · 30/11/2024 19:13

It cost me £120 last time I went to the hairdresser. I did not tip.

RedVelvetIcing · 30/11/2024 19:14

I stopped because every time I go (every 3-4 months) the price has increased so whatever cash I had towards a tip is swallowed up by her surprise price rise.

Massimoscupofcoffee · 30/11/2024 19:15

Nothing as she gets £165 every six weeks.

MsRosewater · 30/11/2024 19:19

I tip £10 for a £65 cut every 4-6
weeks

I feel as nearly as awkward doing it as not...

I thought it was normal and not tipping was cheap...?

VeryCheesyChips · 30/11/2024 19:19

It’s £160. I’m tipping absolutely nothing!

Ifyouhavetoask99 · 30/11/2024 19:21

I pay over £100 at a time for my colour/cut and always tip £10 on top of it - it’s my hairdresser’s own business and she’s always delighted with the extra cash. It’s probably over generous however I’m always on a complete high after her amazing skills with my rat’s nest - I feel I could throw more money at her

ScarletWitchM · 30/11/2024 19:22

I never tip

Justsayit123 · 30/11/2024 19:22

£0. That’s enough!

hopeishere · 30/11/2024 19:22

Nothing. I got to the salon owner and it was my understanding that you don't tip the owner. They have introduced a new system where you can add a tip to your bill. I don't like it.

Stretchedresources · 30/11/2024 19:22

I tip £3 for a £35 wash and trim (shoulder length). She's young and we chat about running.
