How much do you spend on hair and nails?

I am thinking of getting highlights done and in the past, only ever got haircut for something like £20-30. I have started to get grey hairs now so need to look at more options for hair care.
I am also intrigued by my colleague's getting beautiful nails done and tempted to get mine done.
I haven't had much hairs or nails done in the past and intrigued what I should budget for each month to get my hair and nails done?
What are your usual regular spend on hair and nails?

£120 every 3 months on my hair (roots and cut) and nothing on my nails.
I do my nails myself as I enjoy it and like to change the colour regularly.
Might occasionally have an eyebrow wax but thats all, I am not very high maintenance

Holyjolly · 30/11/2024 11:10

I am looking at getting acrylic nails done.

I spend 25 on my nails every 3 weeks. I spend about £50 on a haircut every few months.
I buy hairdye and colour my own hair

TheBeesKnee · 30/11/2024 11:12

Hair 1-2 times per year costing £70-150 depending on what I get done. The hairdressers are always annoyed and tell me I should be coming back every 6 weeks 🙄

I never get my nails done but it feels like everyone I know does, and they're spending c.£40 every 3-4 weeks.

Iceache · 30/11/2024 11:13

I get my hair done once or twice a year (I have no greys and get blonde highlights balayage so it grows out nicely) which costs me £200 each time. I get my nails done every 3 weeks which costs around £30 each time.

I am sure there are plenty of cheaper places for hair but since I go so infrequently, I don’t mind the cost. If I were having to keep up with roots etc, I’d pay less!

Tarkan · 30/11/2024 11:15

I get gel polish done every 3 weeks for £26 a time. The same woman does my brows every 2-3 months for £10 for the wax although I might have to start getting them tinted soon too as the greys are sneaking in.

For a colour and cut for my hair I'm around £80ish and I don't go as often for that. I've been dyeing it myself more recently but because of the greys taking over I want to start trying lighter colours or highlights so I'll be going back to my hairdresser for that.

inquisitiveinga · 30/11/2024 11:19

Personally, I think nails are a waste of time, money and I don't understand the appeal (especially when you have kids and pets... I can't help but think of all the muck that gets under them that you can't see!). If anyone does get them done every few weeks, how on earth do you find the time for it?! I'm genuinely intruiged. I'd much rather put £30 every 3 weeks towards a mini break... I've worked out that it's around £550 a year! Anyway, I digress...

Hair, once a year and around £120 (roots, style, sometimes an all over colour change).

WorkShmork · 30/11/2024 11:21

I spend £50 getting my hair cut every 6 weeks, but I might decrease the frequency as it grows longer.

I don't get my nails done - I'd be worried about modern slavey as nail bars are mentioned in my work's training course about this, and also about hygiene and exposure to chemicals. I sometimes see adverts on FB, and the person's nail bed and cuticles look sore as well. Yeah, it's not for me 😄.

Precipice · 30/11/2024 11:22

I think fake nails look dreadful and would never have them done.

I get my hair cut at the barbers' (short hair) every 6-8 weeks.

Holyjolly · 30/11/2024 11:22

I am intrigued by people saying colour once a year- would it last that long?

ItsMintUpNorth · 30/11/2024 11:22

Don't pay for my hair as my mum is a hairdresser but I spend £31 every 3 weeks on biab nails.

ItsMintUpNorth · 30/11/2024 11:23

If I'm feeling a bit skint I push my nails to over 4 weeks if they are going to fall twice within one payday though.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 30/11/2024 11:23

I do my own nails - I find when I use a nice polish (normally Essie) I can't really tell the difference.

Same for my hair, though I should really start going to a hairdressers I think, I'm sure it could look better 😬

Fancytrike · 30/11/2024 11:24

£36 on haircut every 8 weeks. £6 on home dye about the same frequency just to mask greys. Do my own nails.

Time wise I go at 8am on a Saturday morning and out by 9 so it doesn't really eat into the weekend, and I'm awake that early and would otherwise just be slobbing about the house!

RandomMess · 30/11/2024 11:25

Hair £10 every 8 weeks for a trim.

Nails (natural nails are utterly shit and break way down) £35 per month.

The big killer is lashes every 2 weeks £27. Very short pale lashes, mascara always bleeds, deep sunken eyes.

Will be gutted if I have to give up eyelashes due to COL. I'm older DC independent self care £££ is relatively new.

Edingril · 30/11/2024 11:25

Whatever an annual hair cut costs and a pair of nail clippers for nails

RedVelvetIcing · 30/11/2024 11:25

My hair is £60
Biab nails around £30
Eyebrow wax and tint is £15

Nolegusta · 30/11/2024 11:26

Nothing, other than shampoo and conditioner for hair and moisturiser for hands.

Catlover77 · 30/11/2024 11:26

BIAB nails with gel polish £33 every 3 weeks. I don’t recommend acrylic

No it definitely doesn't stay looking tip top for an entire year... however, work, children + other priorities mean I don't have time/I don't have time to concern myself about my slightly rugged appearance 😂

I tell myself "beauty doesn't matter because in the end we all lose our looks, and all we have is our heart".

Life is short, go out and see it... don't waste yer dollar on constant hair-do's and nails 😜 I say that light heartedly, do whatever makes you feel happy inside 😘

You use your nail brush every day just like you do with untreated nails. An hour and a half every three weeks is hardly a huge amount of time.

Anyway, I used to have my nails done every three weeks at a cost of £30 a time pre covid, I never restarted because I now keep them short and paint them myself. Incidentally the gel really damaged them in the 20 years I had it and it took them a long time to recover. I have my hair cut every six weeks and it costs £55, no colour, I’ve been grey for 28 years.

This is why you go to a proper nail tech not a walk in salon.

BeTealUser · 30/11/2024 11:29

Hair cut every 8ish weeks, about £50/£60.

Do my own eyebrows now but I love a lash lift and tint maybe every 3 months, which is about £60.

I’ve never got into nails thankfully for my bank balance!

cheezncrackers · 30/11/2024 11:29

Costs are greatly dependent on where you live OP. So if you live in London or the SE or in another big, expensive city then the costs will be a lot higher than if you live in a rural area or one with lower average salaries.
