How much do you spend on hair and nails?

I am thinking of getting highlights done and in the past, only ever got haircut for something like £20-30. I have started to get grey hairs now so need to look at more options for hair care.
I am also intrigued by my colleague's getting beautiful nails done and tempted to get mine done.
I haven't had much hairs or nails done in the past and intrigued what I should budget for each month to get my hair and nails done?
What are your usual regular spend on hair and nails?

Nothing outwith products I use at home, so I reckon maybe £30-50 a year max?

I cut my own hair when the ends get straggly and use decent haircare (I buy the huge bottles of shampoo and conditioner) but beyond that it's the odd bottle of nail polish & remover that's about it Smile

FlippityFloppityFlump · 30/11/2024 18:27

Hair highlight and cut every 3 months is £85. Short BIAB nails every 3 weeks is £40.
I have eyebrow tint, wax and eyelash lift and tint when I go on holiday

coldcallerbaiter · 30/11/2024 18:30

Cut and colour £80 x 4 a year.

Gel nails £25 x 8 a year

Tried more expensive versions on and off and they were no better.

thankyouforthedayz · 30/11/2024 18:32

3 haircuts per year, total spend £165

Bigearringsbigsmile · 30/11/2024 18:34

Don't get my nails done but spend 100 quid every 7 weeks on my hair.

fost · 30/11/2024 18:36

Maybe £20 a year on home hair dye. My hair is very long so I just trim it myself, generally have natural nails but if I do want them painted I'll do it myself.

elliejjtiny · 30/11/2024 18:36

I do my own hair. Used to do my own nails but have done that since before having dc. My hair is waist length and so is my son's so we get through a lot of shampoo and conditioner. We use Tesco own brand though so not that expensive.

LibbyL92 · 30/11/2024 18:53

Central London

nails every 4 weeks £34
full head of highlights every 3ish months with a trim £50 (family friend does it)

ThatRubyGoose · 30/11/2024 19:01

I have my hair dyed dark at the back, really bright colour at the front every 5-6 weeks and it’s better £65 - £110 depending on whether I need it all doing cut etc

I have a pedicure every 4 weeks, it’s a treat for me and that’s £40 with shellac.

I am going to start having my hand nails done aswell at the same time which will be £35 too.

I like to take pride in my appearance and I love those few hours every month being pampered. I’m a mum, working full time and in those moment I can just drink coffee, have a chat and not have to worry about anything else. Always puts me in a good mood 🥰

TheFluffiestCat · 30/11/2024 19:11

I hate having my hair done. I go to one of those walk-in places every 3 months for about £15.

Snowontheroof · 30/11/2024 19:30

I buy shampoo.

I think I last went to a hairdresser about 20 years ago. After having the top of my ear nipped off by a hairdresser as a child, and a perm that made half my hair fall out as a teenager, I have gone off them.
My nails have to survive a lot of gardening - no point in pampering them!

sunshineinabag2 · 30/11/2024 19:56

I get my hair done every 6-8 weeks £160 Blush
But I have blonde highlights and brown hair.
Biab on my nails every 3 weeks £35

Amba1998 · 30/11/2024 19:57

Nails £35 every 2-3 weeks

hair £90 every 3 months

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/11/2024 19:59

£80 for my hair every 10 weeks, used to be over £100 but my hairdresser left, I used to pay £28 for nails every 3 weeks but I gave it up to go towards my Botox now that I am getting on 🤣

waggytaildog · 30/11/2024 20:03

Averages £120 a month

Gel nails and hair - roots/maintaining balayage hair

Gel nails done once per month
Hair 8 times per year

LizzoBennett · 30/11/2024 20:06

Approx. £50 every other year for a haircut. Nothing on nails.

Spacecowboys · 30/11/2024 20:09

£170 every 10 weeks for hair, then when new extensions are due ( every 12- 18 months) there’s that cost too. Nails are free as a family member does them. They are my own nails, not false ones.

DottyBaguette · 30/11/2024 20:14

Hair every three months or so, approx £80-£100. Never had nails done, just shape and polish myself.

Allmarbleslost · 30/11/2024 20:23

£35 every 3 weeks on nails and a haircut 3 or 4 times a year at £50 a time. I colour it myself.

Bewareofthisonetoo · 30/11/2024 21:28

Hair £45 a week on a blow dry, keratin treatment every 3 months £250. Box yrs every other week about £10 a time plus trims every so often so over a year would be about £4,000z
Nothing on nails apart from nail varnish from time to time I hate ‘done’ nails

PeloMom · 30/11/2024 21:32

can you google salons around you to get an idea? I’m shocked by the low prices here in the thread as 10+ yrs ago in London I was paying around £200 for low lights and cut, £50-60 for non gel mani pedi.

Teebles007 · 30/11/2024 21:40

£150 for hair, highlights and cut every 6 weeks. Surprised at how little many pay for their hair.

StandingSideBySide · 30/11/2024 21:44

£0
I used to get my hair cut every few months, I’ve never coloured it once it started going grey
I stopped during the pandemic and now it’s just long and Obviously grey.

I don’t pay for others to do my nails but then I don’t like nail varnish.

Sheepsandcows · 30/11/2024 21:46

DIY haircuts and I just file my nails back. I am 'poor' though by MN standards though (just low paid part time work as I have several children with SN). I spend some money on hair care though.

HowNowBrownCow2 · 30/11/2024 21:49

Hair £90 every 8 weeks
Brows £10 for wax and tint every 4/5 weeks (trained beautician friend)
and I used to get nails done but stopped recently and just keep them short and painted. Use a glossy top coat and quality polish and they look great!
