How much do you spend on hair and nails?

I am thinking of getting highlights done and in the past, only ever got haircut for something like £20-30. I have started to get grey hairs now so need to look at more options for hair care.
I am also intrigued by my colleague's getting beautiful nails done and tempted to get mine done.
I haven't had much hairs or nails done in the past and intrigued what I should budget for each month to get my hair and nails done?
What are your usual regular spend on hair and nails?

£70 every three months or so for a haircut. I deep condition it myself every few weeks.

I do my own nails (toes and fingers) - file and polish - every week or so. A couple of times a year I get a full manicure, pedicure and polish (just normal polish) - about £80.

I do my own eyebrows (ie plucking and shaping) as and when needed.

LakieLady · 30/11/2024 15:04

Hair cut and colour is £68 every 6 weeks.

Nails cost fuck all, I trim and file them myself and don't like nail polish, so keep them natural.

I have 2 pedicures a year though, in the summer when my toenails are on display.

sharpclawedkitten · 30/11/2024 15:06

I do my own nails.

Hair cut is about £60, highlights around £100

The real rip off is the dental hygienist - £84 where I go! Pre covid it was £28 for 20 minutes. Now I pay £84 for 30 minutes but she only needs 20 minutes. That is one heck of an increase.

Notsuchafattynow · 30/11/2024 15:11

30 every 3 weeks for nails and roots 30 every 3 weeks and the 6th week it is 60.

Have dark hair and grey roots, and it costs alot to look very natural.

Likely go grey once I've given up work.

19lottie82 · 30/11/2024 15:14

Hair £125-140 every 3 months for a cut and highlights.

Gel nails and toes done usually twice a year for holidays @ £50

YouCanKeepHimJolene · 30/11/2024 15:27

Highlights, roots and cut are £250, then £100 every 8/10 weeks for roots and cut and blow dry. My lights tend to last a year, just ask them to do a toner treatment now and again. Caution though, please invest in a good salon/hair colourist/stylist, it's worth paying more sometimes. I can't be arse with getting my nails done, so just get some decent ish polish from the high street and paint them myself. I love getting my lashes done but I don't have enough time to maintain them at the minute (£50 for full set, cheaper for refills). I would love to get my brows done professionally too, I'm a teen of the 90s/00s when thin was in 🤣 I wish I had more time in my week to commit to regular treatments.

Thewholeplaceglitters · 30/11/2024 15:32

Nails I do myself at home with my gel lamp, tend to change them every week. Initial cost of the lamp etc was around £150 but very minimal ongoing costs.

Hair is £150 every 8 weeks - half head highlights, toner, cut & blow dry on long, thick hair.

Eyebrows £6 every 3 weeks for threading and approx £250 every 2-3 years for microblading.

namechangeGOT · 30/11/2024 15:39

About £300 per quarter on my hair - this includes roots once a month and then cut/balayage colour every 3 months.

I do my own Gel nails because I enjoy doing it and I think acrylics/false nails look horrific.

I'm going for brown eyelash extensions next week, never had my eyelashes done before and that's costing me £45 so that might be another added 'beauty' expense!

I wax and tint my own eyebrows!

Auburngal · 30/11/2024 15:43

Nails - none as I am allergic to some of the stuff nail bars use. Then doesn't matter if I use base coat, decent nail polish and top coat, it flakes off with 24 hours.

Hair - £25 for a wash, cut and blow dry every 5 weeks.

Girasoli · 30/11/2024 15:44

Nothing - I cut my own hair (curly) and just cut my nails with nail clippers.

RM2013 · 30/11/2024 15:44

I can’t have my nails down due to my job but I have a kit at home and do my own when I have some time off work so zero spent.

hair - have roots touched up and trim every 2/3 months or so. Probably have some highlights or foils maybe once a year. Typical visit is around £60-£70

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 30/11/2024 15:47

£35 every three or four months at the local hair salon for a dry cut; nothing on nails.
I've never liked manicures but I used to have expensive hair cuts when I lived close to a really good salon. Now there isn't one, I've grown my hair long and have a trim when it needs it. Put it up for special occasions.

Plantymcplantface · 30/11/2024 15:48

Haircut/blow dry and root colour at a friend’s salon, every 6-8 weeks, £80 so around £500/year. I have dark, very thick shoulder length hair that needs keeping in check!

Nails once a year at Christmas for dark short gels as a treat, £40.

Products from the supermarket/sulphate free shampoo from Amazon.

LisaD1 · 30/11/2024 15:49

I get my hair done every 4-5 weeks and it costs between £40-£80 depending on what needs doing. It’s coloured and sometimes it just needs roots and others the colour putting thru.

nails I only get done for special occasions, having them done next week for Christmas. I get gel polish which lasts about 3 weeks and is £35

Tulipvase · 30/11/2024 15:53

Approx one haircut a year, can be longer. That’s about 65 quid. Once I do decide I want a haircut though, I want it there and then. I lack patience.

Nothing on nails. Don’t think they even been painted by me since I was about 5.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 30/11/2024 15:56

Zero. My adult dc cuts my hair every 6 weeks. No colour. No nails.

GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 30/11/2024 15:58

Paint my own nails with normal polish, with base and top coat they will last around 10 days before I notice a bit of flaking at the sides. Never chips.

Hair trimmed with blow dry every two months, £55 (long and thick and I’m there a good hour).

Dye it myself, pretty close to natural colour to cover quite a lot of grey. I stock up when it’s two for £15. I do that every eight weeks or so. I can push it to 10 weeks but I feel really untidy by then.

I had lash extensions once, new client offer £30. Loved the first set but the infills looked like she’d done them in the dark, they were awful and actually painful. I soaked them off myself after about two days.

Cyclingmummy1 · 30/11/2024 16:01

£120 every 8 weeks for my hair. It might be slightly more or less depending on the colour, and it might be 9 weeks.

Nothing on my nails, I tend not to bother, but my SIL has a salon if I did. My mum used to have hers done every 2-3 weeks - because she could 😆

TwigletsAndRadishes · 30/11/2024 16:05

WorkShmork · 30/11/2024 11:21

I spend £50 getting my hair cut every 6 weeks, but I might decrease the frequency as it grows longer.

I don't get my nails done - I'd be worried about modern slavey as nail bars are mentioned in my work's training course about this, and also about hygiene and exposure to chemicals. I sometimes see adverts on FB, and the person's nail bed and cuticles look sore as well. Yeah, it's not for me 😄.

It's easy enough to avoid modern slavery in nail bars. Just pick one that isn't staffed entirely by Chinese or Vietnamese people and only takes cash. If it is, then that's a big fat klaxon. It's not difficult to find small, local beauty salons that are British owned and British staffed. You'll pay a bit more though.

emmetgirl · 30/11/2024 16:10

£35 on nails every 3 weeks.
Hair about £120 every six weeks
I don't drink or smoke so don't feel bad about it at all!

WaltzingWaters · 30/11/2024 16:17

£15 on hair every 4 months. Nothing on nails.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 30/11/2024 16:17

I pay around £50-60 for a cut and blow dry but I only go about twice a year. Don't colour my hair. I have pedicures about three times a year in the warmer months, £40. Very rarely have manicures, but might occasionally get a gel manicure with plain polish (on quite short nails) for a special occasion. I can't have gel on for months on end because it wrecks my nails underneath and makes them so weak and thin that when I get the gel removed it takes months for the nails to recover.

I used to get my eyebrows threaded about three times a year, but since I've been menopausal there has been no need. I should probably look at micro-blading instead now.

No fillers or botox. I have dabbled with both, but not had any for years now.

I would never have acrylics or any sort of nail art. I just don't like them, but apart from anything else it seems like a ridiculous extravagance and huge time commitment to keep that up long term.

Personally, I think nails are a waste of time, money and I don't understand the appeal (especially when you have kids and pets... I can't help but think of all the muck that gets under them that you can't see!). If anyone does get them done every few weeks, how on earth do you find the time for it?! I'm genuinely intruiged. I'd much rather put £30 every 3 weeks towards a mini break... I've worked out that it's around £550 a year! Anyway, I digress...

Hair, once a year and around £120 (roots, style, sometimes an all over colour change).

Each to their own?

Anyway, haircut every six weeks £50 (I don't colour it).

Toes file and polish and eyebrow wax every couple of months = £30.

I do my own fingernails once a week - just normal polish - because I enjoy it and it carves out another hour of me-time at the weekend.

riverislandjeans · 30/11/2024 16:20

£70 on hair every 6-8 weeks and £30 on nails every 4 weeks

WorkCleanRepeat · 30/11/2024 16:21

Hair £80 every 6 weeks.

Up until recently I spent £25 every 3 weeks on my nails but I've started throwing that money in a jar and doing them myself because it's tricky finding the time to go that regularly.
